  • Who sings this version?

  • @arisztidoltz

    Noel Harrison.

  • 11 RETARTED PEOPLE

  • I'm magically transported to Western Mass. in the summer of 1968 - things were better then -a beautiful, lyrical image of love and family.

  • divine, I'll always love this film, the chess game beetween them...too much sexy.

  • Some call it music, I call it poetry set to notes.

  • 11 people have squares in their minds

  • HAUNTING

  • Michel LEGRAND est un génie.

En Italie Ennio Morriconne est DIEU ... Michel est notre DIEU en France ...

  • I tried this on piano, but without the lyrics (I can not sing )P) It just didn't sound right.

  • Agree, bros - all we want to escape from this average world and to shock our beloved woman by the thing we made... Oh, my God...

  • it's about many things but surely regret most of all

  • ITS A DREAMY BUT TRUE SONG

  • Reminds me of Lea Parapluies de Cherboutg....(Umbrellas of Cherbourg.)

  • this song/recording is just so distinctive and special.. it has that like french style sound to it which gets me nostalgic for some reason.. probably cause my folks played lots of french music when i was young. need to find more songs that evoke a similar feeling like this..

  • I'd kill for that '65 Cadillac convertible!

  • This song always plays on my mind, its strange, confusing and just different I suppose

  • Noel Harrison was the best singer of this song for me. A lot of other singers slow it down and the song drags and starts to fatally bleed. This soundtrack is even faster than the old released 45rpm single which I have, but the single is a superior performance. I've heard him singing it in three recordings and my only quibble is that he never gets that awkward interval on the word 'drumming' onto a distinctly right pitch. It's a unique song which I've always thought somehow Mozartian.

  • @alipitogen you should listen to the muppet version, it's awesome :)

  • steve mcqueen was prolly such a pussy magnet

  • my favorite !!!

  • How cool is that !!!

  • Did you know Noel's father was Rex Harrison!

  • Very evocative and of its time. Wonderful yet also timless.

  • That guy just reminds me of The Great Escape!! :D

Love this song... Nirvana, Jeff Buckley, Colin Hay, The Eagles and this would probebly be the things I would take with me to the afterlife...

  • This version is brilliant! Beautiful and timeless. The best version by far. It isn’t rushed and is sung to match the movies character. This has the timing and appreciation that produces the correct effect Personally I enjoy the sound and visual effect of the clip when the glider goes down behind the trees and then comes past for a fantastic landing and Astrid Heeren (Gwen) drives the car to meet him. This song will be remembered long after other (trash) is gone for its feel and quality.

  • French composer Michel Legrand's best film song from the film THE THOMAS CROWN AFFAIR that truly inspired a young African American artist to beleive in the power of art & french ksses to entertain!

  • I could just see Charlie Brown and Linus in one of those gliders, their teeth chattering in absolute terror.

  • I love this song cause my grandmaw has a windmill that plays the tune in a slower fashion

  • A perfect description of the human condition...possibly the best song ever written!!!

  • Modern day lyrics will never be as good as classics like this

  • @lagervice Such wasted talent! You're a born lyricist, mate!

  • This has to be one of my favourite songs ever, if not favourite. Awesome song!

  • this is possibly the best song i've ever heard why have'nt i heard of this guy before?

  • no word is worthy enough to describe this song...excuse me while i go think of a new word

  • @askadex1 how about "Beautilicious" ?

  • fat tune

  • for me there will only be one Thomas Crown. I started watching the remake once but gave up. McQueen was sexy and every woman in the country wanted to play chess with him.

  • The Romantism The Music The 7th Art and the Psychology in the perfect mixing at the face of Steve Mc Queen.

  • @marinejobs

Hi, if you dont mind me asking, what is "the 7th Art"

Is it songs like this one?

If so pray tell me more- russpad22@yahoo.co.uk

    Thank you Russ/Noel xxx

  • Love this is the original

  • great song

    great actor

    great movie

  • My favorite lyric of any song:

    Were you suddenly aware

That the autumn leaves were turning

To the color of her hair

  • @mwmace . You Bet, Lyrics are great, by Alan and Marilyn Bergman, but music by the almost God, Michel Legrand. This is a classic, timeless and extraordinary song, but this version for sure, the original, is one of the best ever. The other great one, modern version, is by Sting.

  • this IS the 1960's sailplane

movie one of the best romantic movies ever made

you will remember these long after the other (trash) is gone!

  • I think Sting does this song much better

  • Great song and a movie. A bit tricky landing. Its true that flying is a thrill #2 known to mankind. Landing is #1.

  • song written by Michel legrand......beautiful...

  • I love Steve Mcqueen and I love this song, the two together...WOW, cant fully describe how i feel but its good very good, happy, reflective and inspiring!!

  • LOVE THIS SONG

  • @MrVampiredog I LOVE SO MUCH

  • Mc Queen was king of cool no doubt. What greate actors and actress's U.S had back then. From McQueen to Vin Dizel and Holly berry in three decades. what happend to U.S...

  • @mrclass, hate to say it, but I can't help agree.

  • This is Noel Harrison's version - brilliantly understated, nobody else has come near him. Never heard him sing anything else. Odd eh?

  • @mickinbrussels Actually, he also did a cover version of Procol Harum's "A Whiter Shade Of Pale"; the original's still the best, but he does a decent job of it, I guess.

  • @mickinbrussels yea, talk about one hit wonder, but a brilliant wonder

  • @mickinbrussels

    I concur...

  • great movie, terrible actor

  • @anisete46 mi mejor actor steve mc

  • Who's version of the song is this? There are so many.

  • Steve McQueen is still the King of cool.

  • olaferinhardweyer hes not flying a plane its called a glider the diffrince is that a plane has a engine and a glider relies on air cruents

  • any1 notice the first two verses... from the start until the second windmills of your mind... are 2 sonnets, then the 3rd verse is similar but it continues with the suddenly you realise........colour of her hair...a sudden realisation......a break of a revolving trance(circle within a circle/2 sonnets ) to form a new beginning.........just an observation

  • Who is the woman in the car?

  • AMAZING CLIP THAT WON BEST SONG TITLE (1968 Acadamy Awards)

TRIVIA: So far this 1968 clip has had an average of 300 views per day! That is huge for such an old clip! There were over 500 views just since yesterday!

    WOMAN IN CAR SEARCH:

The woman in the car is probably either Astrid Heeren ("Gwen") or Carol Corbett ("Miss Sullivan ") and could only probably best be determined by watching the full length movie. Basic web searches and checking IMDB.com didnt produce any photos. (Help! )

  • @maninthestreet01 Not certain. I want to say its a Tanned-Claudia Cardindale (orig. Pink Panther). Cardindale was selected by Italian Producers for her renditions of Italian Women, which the character in this film also plays his "Italian Girlfriend." Cardindale was McQueens date and helped Present with him at the 1965 Acadamy Awards. Ive done a fair amount of searching on this and this is my best guess. IMDB didnt credit Cardindale or anyone else for that matter on this appearance.

  • @multiplexusa : nope, her name is Astrid Heeren.

  • @maninthestreet01 : her name is astrid heeren and I believe she's german. very beautiful woman indeed.

  • @papillon0970: I am reasonably certain she is Italian. I researched this about 9 months ago and somewhere I read Pre-TCA she was in high demand in numerous Italian films because she resembled a typical Italian woman. Its too bad she didn't go on to do much more in American Film. According to IMDB she did two more American Films but not even a supporting role! Then nothing. Not a magazine cover or anything. Any Fluent-Italians out there should be able to find more info on at Italian Sites.

  • @multiplexusa : just did a google search: there's an issue of "Look" magazine from april 1969 with an article about her. It does say she's a "German model turned actress".....

  • Beautiful song,timeless!

  • Bravo Feliciano !!!

  • I died a little listening to this shit.

  • Unlistenable

  • Is that David Bowie singing?

  • @farliesbirthday

    no, that's HEINO

  • @farliesbirthday Jose Feliciano

  • I've had this song stuck in my head all day...it's slowly driving me insane...

  • It never fails...Steve Mc Queen in The Thomas Crown Affair and it's theme song sends goose bumps up and down my arm. I love, love, love him, and everyone envolved with this film. A classic for sure.

  • Beautiful song x

  • haven't seen this film in ages much better than the Brosnan rehash

  • nobody come close to steve.. he was one of the greatest, decent and finest man ever. he was a great star and an great person. and i miss him.... still......

  • on our school performance. at the start when we're getting ready. this is playing. i thought it was of charli & the chocolate factory. how rong i was = )

    good song though

  • McQueen was genuine hot property and next appeared with Faye Dunaway in the provocative crime drama The Thomas Crown Affair (1968), next in what many consider his signature role, that of a maverick, taciturn detective in the mega-hit Bullitt (1968), renowned for its famous chase sequence through San Francisco between McQueen's Ford Mustang and the killer's black Dodge Charger.

  • Just perfect!!!

  • a good song but i talentless singer

  • The song is not about boredom - In fact the very opposite. The words relate to the free associative meaning of day dreaming. Consciousness is circular not linear and so people usually fly between parallel lines of thought exploring hidden connection. The portal of creativity is intermittent eventually closes and hence the solemn landing of the melody. The song feels like a meditation on meditation.

  • @johnsammyanfal

Thanks for that reflection on...... reflection.

  • A classic like what we don't hear anymore.

  • its a good song but it has terrible rythm

  • @lowaces yeah I agree and while I'm no expert isn't that deliberate and doesn't it make it that more interesting? You have to agree it is very mellow?

  • @stixmix2375 I don't know, as they would says it was the 60's, the song has lots of cover versions, the one by mancini is pretty good, but i'm sure i could sing it with better rythm, i could even make up my own jibbersih words because it has the right flow.

  • What are you lot on? Man is supposed to live in the sky, indeed. Maybe if he's smoked half an ounce of crack, then maybe. Bloody good film, but living in the sky????? walk away from the pipe, my friends.

  • Some people say, Thomas Crown Affair is good, but not the best movie ever shot, but this scene is just brilliant, excellent and awesome. Steve McQueen as Thomas Crown reminds us, that man is not meant to live on ground - the real Man belongs to sky, which doesn't know any borders and limits. Due to this, the scene's worth billion Oscars.

  • Love to see this very video over and over..Incredible MacQueen..Classic Late 60's Movie...and Genius Musical Artist Michel Legrand..

This combination will never happen again..

As for the flight part..am a pilot too...Sailing is like Nirvana.. Tx for posting it.

  • @ozorchuck And not being really handsome or strong physically nor intellectual,he just had a great style!

  • @ozorchuck Yep, the way he died is very sad....

  • @ozorchuck seriously?? he could do it all?? i am a software developer with a pilots licence..am i a modern day errol flynn? can i do it all?? no...get a grip

  • @froger76 Yep; he darn well could! He had a natural aptitude for most sports. He was a speed freak. He could ride anything and drive anything and play anything. And if he couldn't, he'd learn. He taught himself to play polo for this film and practised until his hands bled. He played fast...sad he died at 50.

  • @ozorchuck ...or Tom Horn ?

  • Thank You for the movie clip, A special time.

  • Thank You for the movie clip, A special time.

  • great song sounds great

  • Great song, and nice lyrics. For some reason, my brain always tells me that he's going to crash at the end of the video - even though I know he won't. :D

  • @Akfilm92 i know wot u mean its that kind of music =)

  • I love this song.

  • Wonderful tune, lyrics, film, upload. BTW, WTF has LubeToob done with comments? Is this an attempt to screw with public communication, just to make sure we can't comment between each other? Where once the system was a bit kooky now it 's a total mess. I hope internet isn't heading for the one-way street of TV and radio. Meanwhile, thanks again for the upload.

  • rex harrison's son?

  • simply fantastic song but i have to say the Peirce Brosnan version is better

  • @slopadob NO WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @slopadob is it bull

  • @JuanMacready an all time classic movie and all time classic song and songtrack by michel legrand.....which people wil still be listening to it another 40 years!!!!

  • @JuanMacready you're a very sick individual, making a statement like that!!

  • @JuanMacready Why have you watched the clip then? Idiot!

  • This is the kind of song that you'd listen to whilst going insane. I love it!

  • Thanks for the correction franzkafka1010 - she is very nice

  • Great film and great song! Well done. Thank you for posting it!

  • how sexy does Faye look in this clip

  • Sorry duon55, but the girl in the car is Astrid Heren, a Swedish model that only had this bit part in the movie.

  • To Franzkafka1010: Thank You for sharing

this information, that the girl in the car was

so attracted me, but I don't know who she is until you let us know, could you tell me how do you know about this valueable information !?

  • Sorry Rainbow76, but I've just coppy the information from "maamvalley" posted here one year ago ...rsrsrs.

  • @franzkafka1010 : Thanks, anyway !

  • "Herman van Veen - Cirkels"

Is the dutch version of this song wich is a bit slower.

  • There was some controversy if the rough McQueen could play this character.

I'm sure another sucessful contemporary of his was considered for this role, Paul Newman.

  • Nice. Emotional. French.

  • @TheBitterWeed

so the song is originally a french song?

I don't know but it sound really good

  • Music was composed by Michelle Legrand, a great France's musician. That one which wrote the music to "Cherbourg's Umbrellas"

  • @ericyanikov :

I am so glad, you knew a lot of the details element of 60' and the fans of this movie.

  • Thanks. I'll send you something beautiful from another film. Enjoy.

  • And what a perfomance! Thomas Crown is flying a plane here, something literally uplifted and he just can't get rid of his all life fundamental dissatisfaction, unhappyness and boredom. Only the 70s could relate glamour and lifestyle to this feeling, and it's a fundamental truth, too.

  • @olafreinhardweyer Glider, but whatever.

  • @olafreinhardweyer - on a point of pedantry, it's a glider.

  • @olafreinhardweyer or Steve McQueen

  • Steve...the best!

  • BRAVO... BRAVO... BRAVO....Praises for the McQueen performance. The all time best actor. IF you have not seen The Get Away with him and Allie McGraw.... It's AWESOME !!! They Really knew how to make movies back then.

  • @mesquiteguy1221 la mejor pelicula de steve y tambien papillon

  • @albis151 I'm afraid I don't read or speak Spanish, BUT IF I follow your question correctly, YES I have seen the movie Papillon....years ago, And Yes he was great there too. Thanks

  • @mesquiteguy1221 Papillon such a great film not seen it for years

  • Noel Harrison is great. He has a wonderful English accent.

  • In my head it sounds darker

  • I love this version, but listen to the one by Parenthetical Girls. I might actually like it even more. :D

    Thomas Crown Affair= Best.

  • that the autumn leaves were turning. superb:

  • Great song, great movie, great actor!

Nobody was cooler than Steve McQueen.

He died before I was even born, but I think nobody alive today can match him in coolness!

  • Calsummer, you have excellent taste for one so young....he was the best! : )

  • Sting's version was very nice. I love originals, but he made it his own. With all due respect.

  • I agree that this original version is much better and true to Legrand's style and spirit than the Sting's remake.

  • Both movies are great ...but, Steve was a mans man and always will be.

  • Stings cover is a try hard version, trying to be cool. This is the real thing. Don't try and remake a classic it just doesn't work.

  • I humbly disagree. Sting version is great!

  • ill always remember this song. it was on my baby walker. i remember it from all them years.

  • This is the best Holliwood film!

  • Who is the singer? I love this version...

  • Rex Harrison's son

  • Comment removed

  • Great, but Gloria Loring did the BEST version I've ever heard.

  • TRU DAT!

  • Just listen to Dusty Springfield's cover....nuff said

  • Good. Now go take a look at the remake glidder scene. Notice Steve alone is all thats needed...no speaking just him - total cool. Pierce you couldnt get him to shut up. And, where is the chess scene in the new one??? You know they couldnt tackle that...The new soundtrack is awesome but I like this old classic...the new one is counting to much on speed. Thank you for your comment...I like to know what people think.

  • counting too much on 'speed'? heh, sting's cover is anything but fast.

  • No No I was talking more about the movie...stings cover is great.

  • @19Spencer80, you hit the nail on the nub. Brosnan couldn't shut up. But then Herr McQueen was one of the masters of physical non-verbal acting.

  • @jemimakahn UHHH I must admit that I had not thought of it that way before, And Of Course the Great McQueen ALWAYS gave his Best in his performances. BUT In all Fairness, I FEEL that Brosnan gave a good performance for THE UPDATED VERSION. Which would of course can NEVER Beat the Original. JUST my HUMBLE Opinion.

  • Who sings THIS version of the song?

  • Noel Harrison did the original song... you can find it on youtube.

  • Noel Harrison
