Clapton is God ! Saw this quartet in '86 in Birmingham UK, saw Clapton lots in the '80's but that was the best, or the time he did "pros and cons of hitchhiking" with Roger Waters, also in Birmingham a couple of years earlier. I've never heard anyone else transfer so much emotion through a guitar.
This song.. is just AMAZING!!! I can't believe it - Immediatly catches my ear - and just watching Nathan East. He is probably one of the most enjoyable bass players to watch because he has such a happy attitude so to say :D
@spraypainter1337 ~ I love Nathan... You right he does seem like a happy guy and has been playing with Clapton a lone time as well as most of the other band members... I love the regular drummer too..
listening to the album version of this song and even the closing solo, i just can't see how people say that clapton lost his shred ability after cream.
This song is really helping me be strong in my divorce. Very accurate in every lyrics, helping me not try to work something out that isn't there no matter how hard it is.
Been there, and I'm sorry. This song really helped me survive mine also. It's sucks now, but it gets better down the road. Good luck and keep your chin up.
Clapton has done so many different things that it's impossible to say this is better or that. The layla album is great and so is Ocean Boulevard or Behind the sun. I like The Edge of darknees very much.
But I most enjoy his playing, live with a small band like this.
He's like Hooker in a sense that he's better the fewer people there are on stage.
I don't agree, because August is a different album:It has the sound of the 80's, and is so different form th early clapton's album like Layla and Other Assorted Love Songs by Derek and the Dominos. Too differents album to take a decision.
Great Song. It rock like "It's in the way that you use it" and "Take a chance".For sure August is the best studio album of Slowhand. Thanks for add it man! 5 Stras and add to favourite Where is taken from?

Clapton is very average. And this is just a cheap popsong. I mean, Phil Collins, how low can you go?

Great song & my favorite from the "August" album. I still think it would've made a great single.
vodude 2 years ago 2
yea it would hav... its the only song on that very '80s' album that clapton actually uses his screaming blues guitar lead..
alcoholman01 2 years ago
i couldnt agree more, screaming blues lead indeed on this song... rather than 80s synth lead
