Good god that was hard to watch. I felt like I was watching a high school play. Just two actors reciting lines. I felt zero emotional attachment to either of them. I didn't care about what they were saying and it didn't seem like they did either. Blech. The writing was good though.
Watching this right now for the firs time since seeing this in theaters. So many moments stuck with me since, the biggest one..."I'm glad it's you." Too deep, too well done.
I'm surprised how few people rate this amongst their favourite films. For me it has everything; a rounded narrative, strong characters, great cinematography, iconic scenes, an excellent script and talented actors. Also with a soundtrack by Thomas Newman (who worked with Mendes previously on American Beauty), you can't go wrong :)
Actually I prefer movies of the 70's, 80's and 90's but this movie is one of the very few masterpieces in decade 2000-2009. Interesting storyline, brilliant acting, directing, editing. Tom Hanks and Tyler Hoechlin were so impressive.
Are you into Italian gangster movies, and crooked cops. Come by my channel and watch a upcoming film that my father, and I premiere in called "Old Secrets No Lies". what a strong dialogue! "This is the life we chose, the life we lead. And there is only one guarantee: none of us will see heaven." one of the best quotes ever!
He's talking about Michael. Because if Michael doesn't leave.."And if I don't [leave]?" He will be killed by Rooney's men..Rooney considers him as his son.
Yes, it can. If you want to get technical, Michael isn't even his son. He only said that he considered him as a son. He knows what Michael is capable of, and even with more respect and adhereance to Micheal, he decides to NOT give up his only son Connor. So who does he love more? His son or Michael? He respect Michael more but he loves Connor like Michael does his own. The "Son he lost" line could refer to Michael's decision to turn on him, or knowing Michael was very capable of his sons murder.
Looks like I am in disagreement with the whole page and beyond. The first two thirds of the movie was amazing, just like is being said here, but it lost it's feel down the stretch. I remember thinking about halfway threw that I was in the middle of a classic. I felt differently when I left the theater.
In my opinion, this is definetly one of the best films of all times. Acting in the same class as in atleast Shawshank redemption, Godfellas and The dark knight. However the photo in this film is better than in all of them.
And this movie is not even in the Imdb 250 list??
This must be the most underrated movie of all times!
This is one of the most criminally underrated masterpieces of all time. Every frame is a work of art. Tip of the hat to all involved. Oh yeah, the book is just as good (highly recommended).
I uploaded a couple of clips in hope that some people would see them and want to see the film...legally. I understand that I'm still technically in breach of copyright, but I'm hoping that my breach of copyright wont rob money from the people who made this masterpiece, the opposite actually.
Yeah.............you should not be accused of copyright violations if you just upload small scenes..........your not cheating the filmakers out of money.........like you said you are actually advertising for them.
@Blackadder89 ha ha , how is this movie a "masterpiece". This movie is the most predictable, already been done a thousand times, stupidly put together film ever done. The whole plot is man is in mob, mob kills son, man seeks revenge. Its been done over and over. IT was a waste of 2 hours of my life.
@JohnnyBoyCali ya its been done before but never as good as this tell me how its stupidly put together film ever done maybe 99% of all the people comments are wrong enlighten us....
@irishkerry Oh cmon its been done a million times better than this. Look at the first godfather movies, the untouchables, casino, goodfellas, etc. Those were all better movies with better acting. I love how the idiots just stand in the middle of the street and just let him mow them down. Not one single one of them runs for cover. The whole thing is just crap.
@JohnnyBoyCali this films not about the action mate - obv it is to a certain extent but its all about the meaning n stuff with regards to the events that happen

when he says "i will mourn the son i lost"
is he referring to connor or michael?
