there is this thing with "new", which of course means adaptive to how thing are in "reality" "now": it is purely and simply difficult, as opposed to habitual.
So it's been two months now since my last opinion of Manafon and I have to this...I went on a road trip and really gave the album a good listen. It was just me, the whirring of my tires, the road sliding away underneath me and this album and I came to find that it moved me. I listened to it in a way I don't listen to most albums. I was careful, I was cautious, it was soulful and I opened up and let it come in. It is a work that will stand the test of time and will create a space in your heart.
I have only listened to the album once. I have read a comment somewhere describing this album as challenging. I was hoping for something a tad brighter or more melodic but somehow, this song has sunk in. I cannot explain how or why, is it the sentiment, the voice?
When I am ready, I'll give the album another listen. I'm afraid to say it but I think this could really grab me.
I love David Sylvian, but I think Blemish and Manifon are rather self-indulgant.
I haven't heard all of Manifon as yet, but if this is the song they chose to make a video for first, I am betting that it isn't up to his usual standard...
Just out of curiosity, should music EVER be any other way? I will admit to struggling with both albums, but I suggest you continue to give Manafon a couple of more tries. It just may grow on you.
I have received my copy of Manafon and I have to admit, I'm struggling with it a bit. This is an album that is going to take some time to create space in my heart. However, this is certainly one of my favorite songs from it. I never tire of listening to this. I'm excited to see how Manafon makes me feel in a month.
A year ago, this video was being played at Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography. It caught my soul deeply.
