I get 20 -24 mpg in my 2004 silverado with 5.3 4x4 cause of the 6 speed and the aluminum in the drivetrain. I also drive like a granny when I want to go fast I hop on my motorcycle.
i bought one of these.. amazing truck does everything it says, you gotta be a little gentle on the gas for the electric. but you can always feel it boostin you. i got 860 km on my last tank. so many ppl underestimate these bad boys.. ppl think less power? tell me that when my hybrid smokes your hemi. chevys rape:)
We purchased a 2007 Silverado because of the increased mpg. We have yet to get more than 15 mpg. 13 mpg is the norm. I am really tired of the false advertising. We got 17 mpg with our 1997 Silverado. This is not even close to being the truck the 97 was.
@mjc2247 WOW I have a 01 and get about 16 MPG and thats with 150,000 miles.I also know other ppl that also have newer GM trucks and get worst MPG then past trucks. GM's current advertising is false info based on their vehicle of the past. I won't be purchasing another GM product anytime soon.
Yes you can drive on the battery only below 30mph but only if you put an egg between you foot and the pedal and only push hard enough that you don't break the egg.
look at the ford they comparing it with. it the standard work truck! they need to compare with the same size truck! and ford beat Chevy in the slip competition in 2wd. the Chevy needed 4wd to get out of that situation! and one thing a hybrid truck... that don't even sound tough! the ford will always be the bast and Chevy people are just mad because they suck. and if u don't believe me about the Chevy using 4wd to get out watch this video (Extreme Traction-Control Test)
haha! i know dude! thats the first thing i though of when they showed the ford.. everything is base model, prolly 5 speed and 2WD!! Chevy always trys to keep up with Ford and Dodge.. face it.. your company is in the hole billions of dollars and you always say "America's Best" this, "America's Best" that if its so AMERICAN, than why do you have Isuzu make your diesel for you? at least Dodge uses Cummins.. and Ford uses International (Navistar) you might as well change your name to Isuzu-let! haha
I love the Hybrid system in a truck, and to me its all good, i would like to say that a Diesel hybrid would great when your just crusing...and when you need the power...the motor can take care of that
I don't know how American Hybrid buses work, but I know the Mercedes Hybrid Bus has a turbocharged 4.5L V8 Diesel engine that only charges the Batteries, which making the Bus go forward.. and it's still quite fast.. so the Bus thing is not right.. not to me..
Make a new SIlverado Hybrid take the 4.8L V8, turbocharge it, put active fuel managment on it, and then out put the battery.. much more effcient while delivereing the same power..
reason why toyota does not implement a hybrid into their trucks is because the idea is completely stupid. Yes electric motors are very torquey response but all is pointless if the electricity is stored by a battery that doesn't have high supply of electricity.
A truck can handle the battery weight. Battery life is a problem for anything with a battery. Toyota, Tesla and all others will have a battery life problem. Show me one ICE that give 100% torque at 0 RPM's. The point is to increase MPG. No matter what you do that will cost more and be some sacrafices. This truck is not for every truck owner. More for the city commuter that also needs a truck.
still this is almost as bad as GMs EV1. hybids are meant for smaller cars. I just dont see this selling in a market place besides what you said about the city.
The EV1 is a totally different debate. Hybrids are not just meant for small cars. There are now hybrid city buses. The Hybrid concept is basically to recapture braking energy that would otherwise go to waste as heat. Then reuse that energy to get the vehicle moving. Size is on a factor in that the components need to be scaled up.
Improving mileage of low mileage trucks will actually save more gas than improving mileage of higher mileage cars. The only downside is the cost.
@watso64 Not even hyped. Hyped towards failure. 8 months later and this truck still isn't' selling for shit! hahaha.I know a product when i see it being able to sell or not even before it is released. And this thing doesn't have any market potential.
@EpiDemic117 Agree. I was looking a 2006 GMC sierra hybrid product and it got only 16.9 MPG only about 1MPG better then my non hybrid truck. I rarely if ever see GM hybrid truck/SUV on the road. $40,000+ SUV/Truck and can only tow 6,000 lbs these POS vehicles are way overpriced and don't live up to what the commercials say. imo
I would never spend my money on these hybrid products.

This comment has received too many negative votes show
gm, stop trying to bullshit people into thinking you are better than ford, dodge, or even toyota. you suck, and the sales prove that.

Yes but with the hybrid extra cost and the diesel extra cost no one would buy it.

Maybe that's why the battery in the truck is huge. It takes all the space under the rear seat.
regould22 2 years ago 2
which makes it a stupid idea. Howie long is a idiot.
EpiDemic117 2 years ago
So how does having a battery that does supply enough electricity to give it good torque response a bad idea when that's what you said it needed.
regould22 2 years ago 3
because of the weight and battery life. modern v8's have enough torque as is. So whats really the point?

@EpiDemic117 agree. Hybrids trucks are a total waste of money. Also way over-hyped

Why didn't they take the 4.8L and put active fuel managment in it, and combine it with the Battery...
Better fuel economy.. and still enoug powe.. they could turbocharge the 4.8L one..
