  • This Is Great Miss D Hello From Art Weiss

  • @TheLastGladiators Hey ART! How are you?

  • Grandma, i didn't know you played drums?!:) teach me.

  • @3rudymora HAHA But why do I have to be your Grandma....why not your Mom? My grandbaby is 2yrs old, I know you have to be older than that!

  • @3rudymora no I turn 1 this coming year! so will ya teach me gram gram!! :)) your a beast! oh nice kit btw DW?

  • @3rudymora When talking to a young lady like this you're always supposed to assume their age to be less than what you originally think! lol

  • wow WELL done!!!!!

  • what snare do you use?

  • @fanculoate With this kit, I normally use a Dennis Chambers Pearl signature snare, but this picture has a Pearl Free Floating metal snare. 3 1/2 inches deep and I put some Yamaha Maple hoops on it to warm it up a little.

  • @apocalist420 Yes, I love my drum magazines! haha

  • That was AMAZING! I know how bad it burns when you go to the magazine, lol.

    Great Job,

    Mike Johnston

  • great job!!

  • 200+bpm! haha, go girl!

  • go mom!

  • ...Wow :O

  • awesome!

  • i want that k custom soooo bad

  • ohhh yeah !!!! baby

  • HOLY.... you are a beast :D

  • u have a great rack.....tom!

  • all i can say is wow very nice

  • Niiice!

  • DRUM! magazine??? :D best magazine evar!

  • Mike Johnson is awesome, I wish I could play half as good as he does but very informative

  • Nice technique and beautiful DW set...you rock...nice to see

  • You could improve a lot by using more wrist pressure to get the velocity in the strokes than moving your entire forearm. also when your stick comes down for the second stroke in the double stroke put a little pressure from your fingers to get more equal tone between the first and second stroke. I like your kit!

  • From one female drummer to another you go girl!!

Can I ask how long you've been playing?

  • @MsAngel1508 Thanks, I have been playing for 46 yrs!!! Loooooooong time!

  • are you using vater drumsticks ?greetings from Argentina

  • @chupeteguaya Those sticks were actually VF Buddy Rich sticks.

  • ur awesome

  • you sir have a beautiful kit what is it ?

  • @shepdude666 HAHA Ma'am, not Sir. It is a emerald green satin oil DW kit. Thank you.

  • damn yu got yourself some sweet ass drums

  • Really nice! I can play Singels at 200 :) But i really do suck at doubles, poor me

  • Hey how long you been drumming ??? and i have just now got up to 150 bpm in double stokes

    BTW I LOVE Mike Johnston

  • a woman looks more amazing when playing the drums. I adore you. I'm a girl, I play the drums too. I don't have any problems with double strokes on my right hand 'cause i'm a righty. I still have problems with my left though. I try to relax but my left is still not a fan of double strokes. Any advice master? Tips? =)

  • @ChicDrummerChic learn push pull,

  • One word.... AMAZING

  • @ProAtHaloYo03 Thank you.........two words! HA

  • Did that include your warm up? or did you warm up prior to recording it?

  • @drv30 I warmed up for about 10 minutes before I attempted it. I think that is why it was not as clean as I can normally be.

  • Wow! I can only do these at 135.. guess I have a long way to go!

  • wow! I can only do double strokes at 135.. guess I have a long way to go!

  • Very nice. Where do you get his workout to?

  • Your kit looks beautiful!!! :)

Cool exercise, I need to practice this Mike's workout too, my left hand is weaker than right, amplitude of my right hand is much bigger than the left on 190+ bpm...

  • Very cool! :)

  • If I saw you in the street, I'd be like hell if you're a drummer. Well, you are a drummer, and I least expected a female drummer especially of your style to have a kit like that. I thought you more of a Mayer style kit.

  • @Beholdthecoma HA HA Yeah, I don't really look like a drummer, but hey, I fool everyone! I luv my DW's but I usually don't take them to play gigs with.....I use a small Gretch kit.

  • @dtdrummerlady cool, yeah, I wouldn't wanna take a huge kit like that with me anywhere really. As impressive as big kits may look, they are just too much effort to disassemble and then reassemble.

  • i've been practicing my doubles for more than 10 yrs now and i do not know why i can't achieve the speed you do it...can anyone help me?.drummerlady?..otherwise i'll quit drumming....i'm really frustrated with this thing..

  • @Ricardomalonda practice practice and more practice

  • @Ricardomalonda set the metronome at a speed that is just under the fastest u can play relaxed for a minute and add 5 bpm when it seems easier. The key is not to force the speed but to play at a relaxed speed where u can play the rudiment clean. just keep doing that and those 5 bpm intervals will add 50 bpm before u know it.

  • Thanks!..i've started to do that and it seems to work...

  • It sounds like your fingers on your left hand are getting in the way of the stick's movement. The first stroke of the double should be loose, all rebound; the second, a pull with the fingers (in my opinion). And your first stroke is being constricted by too much contact, I think.

Your technique is definitely great, and you seem to do doubles in the way that I think is best as well. But I think that your left hand is constricting the stick a little, making the roll uneven.

  • @therealshugjr

But don't take this the wrong way, I'm not being a harsh critic. This is really well done, and really impressive. You don't see many female drummers, much less ones that are your age, and you especially don't see them with so much talent :D

    Good work :)

  • I think it's because I never play rudiments with matched grip. I use traditional like on my video called moon gel practice pad workout. (check it out) But, at this speed there is no time for relaxing or rebound on that dead magazine surface.

  • @dtdrummerlady

Ah, that makes more sense. I'll check out the other video.

And as for the magazine bit, I was referring to the practice pad portion of your workout.

  • NO! Not the drum magazine!

  • LOL!! I know, right??? I didn't even mess up the magazine at all though. HA HA

  • what kind of snare drum is that?

  • Pearl Free Floater w/Yamaha hoops

  • Perfect. Period.

  • when i do double stoke rolls, i feel like im just dropping them, and not playing them out, is there a way i can fix this?

  • Try playing the second tap of each diddle louder than the first tap. This will make you stroke each diddle and make your doubles cleaner and not dropped in. rR lL rR lL

  • wow, so clean

  • holy crap lady, that was tight...

  • Thanks for that! I

  • Nice! You could try it playing traditional, to work out more muscles in the arm, or use bigger sticks. I enjoy your videos!

  • Big fan of Mike J. too. he cracks me up while teaching cool stuff. hey, that Rogers kit in the background looks like my first kit. is it blue & black swirled together? just curious-anyway, good videos drummerlady

  • Great video. What brand practice pad is that? Is that a Moongel?

  • The practice pad on the snare is a Pipe Band practice pad I ordered from Hugh Cameron (pipe drummer)

  • Good doubles.. I wanna say that Mike J didn't invent anything new! Dennis Chambers always said that practicing on pillow (dead rebound surface) is what Buddy Rich told him!!!

  • OH Yeah, I have been doing it since 1966!! HA HA

  • Daily practice concentrating on each stroke. Get a dead surface and start slow and build up the speed. Each day and wk should show improvement. (pillow practice or get a thick magazine)

  • how do you play double strokes so well?!

  • really nice very smooth for the whole thing

  • Thanks : )

  • Nice! I can say I have singles around 260... But this is something to REALLY respect you for! Keep it up =)

  • Hey drummerlady! I just watched Mike's vid and your vid and I have a question. How are you able to do doubles on a mag, where there is no rebound? What technique are you using? How can I practice for it? My doubles totally rely on the bounce and I can only do them efficiently on my snare and HH.

    Please help!

    Thanks!

  • Start slowly on a pillow stroking each tap. Practicing on a dead pillow or surface with no rebound will work your wrists. Each wk. you should notice increased speed. Endurance is the key.

  • Ok, I will try it out. Thanks for the tip!

  • ok i have a problem.... i can do very good doubles on a pillow...but i can't (at the same speed) make doubles on a reboundish (a word mike johnston came up) surface....

  • you are so awesome.

  • That is nuts, i tried just doing doubles onmy floor tom earlier and hes right, it does feel like jello compared to the snare drum.

  • very nice

  • That was Awesome! I wish I had that kind of speed.

  • ha i just watched mikes video last night
