Hearing this music takes me back to days of pool halls, pitchers of beer, and a certain girl from Tyler, TX who had a 1973 Plymouth Fury with a back seat the size of a living room. Gives me chills, one of the greatest performances ever.
OMG! Was it Winterland? I seen him was so cool.... thinks I was stoned! Great Party tune for sure! That wawa Box was so radical ...so many people there too much!
From the greatest faux-live album of all time. The performance IS amazing, but if you watch closely you never see the crowd and band at the same time. The crowd noise w/the annoying guy whistling is a backing track. My $50 midi keyboard makes the same sound. This was a brilliant marketing ploy that saves studio time because you can record minimal overdubs and mask any flaws with crowd noise. It also excites listeners because it sounds like the band has a huge following. Still a great album.
@weaseldragon dude it was recorded live ,, they had to redub some drums because the kick mic fell over ,,, and did some tweaks along the way ...I saw frampton live in 1976 and it was every bit as epic as the album and more .have you seen him live ?
@weaseldragon Dude? this video does not go with this song. Somebody has done a mash up of the live version and this concert footage. I have this concert performance and he is doing the song LIVE on it. But what you are hearing here is the song FROM Frampton Comes Alive.
@weaseldragon the greatest faux-live album of all time
Btw. That honor belongs to KISS. You should listen to Bob Ezrin who recorded it. Almost the entire album is a manufactured "live" experience. Because the actual recorded audio sounded like shit. Virtually everything has been added.
I still love the album because it does capture the KISS experience well even if it is Dr'd up.
That's what makes FCA so impressive. This was Live to Tape!!
@roquefortfiles I have to agree. I loved KISS Alive. FCA is very impressive and the playing is great. But a lot of that crowd noise on the album is fake. The whistling guy is obviously part of a loop. Also, I'm sure it was recorded from the sound board, and unlikely that the audience was mic'd so they'd get a clean master.
@weaseldragon I have seen a making of doc on FCA. There was not much done to the album. What you hear is pretty much all them. Crowd noise here and there?? whoop de doo. That's a WHOLE lot different than replacing 4 instruments for 4 and a half minutes during a song in studio because the live version sounded horrible. Which is what KISS ALIVE is. And the audience on KA was MAJORLY sweetened. I've seen Bob Ezrin talk about it.
@670Kiester The reason it's conveniently "broken" at the 3:30 mark is because it would have been too difficult to match that part of this video with the "Frampton Comes alive" album version audio that is used for this video. As @tommuck pointed out, this is total BS. I've got the live album version permanently etched in my brain and for a brief moment thought I had stumbled on video of that epic performance -- video with really bad audio synch, that is.
Is that richard simmions on the bass

I'd like to see this with the audio synchronized with the video.

Always gets me. Like, 'Ten years After' at Woodstock!

I was 12 years old in 1975 and all I wanted was to be like Peter Frampton. The epitome of cool for me at that age.
