I think the intention is to focus on the candle light and it will create an image in the mind, just like when you see a bright headlight of a car and when it passes you can still see the light. Anyways I never did like candles and avoid them usually. One can just close one's eyes and turn the gaze upward and see the point of light inwardly just as well. It works for me.

It's conventional for a reason my friend, because unlike this where you take it to heart that its true because he meditates and he's been doing it for a while, science requires empirical evidence in order for it to be conventional as you say. The beauty of it is if you don't believe a scientist, you can study which ever field hes in and understand why he's right and you're wrong. Science is a way of thinking not a group of people. Its flexible and self correcting.

You know why he said that? because it was the only part of the bran that appeared to be singular as in, it didn't come in two hemispheres so he thought it was special but now we know it does have 2 hemispheres.
