I have similar framerates while recording in 1280x900...when fraps is idle, I get up to 140fps.
I believe it's because i have more ram and more cache on the processor.

Playing with mouse and keyboard is X3 easier then playing with controller.
If your a bad aimmer then nothing will help you.
