I was working on my car last weekend and grabbed a stack of random cds from the vault ha ha. The Rollins Band was one. I honestly hadn't heard it in a while. As it was on I was like ' damn I forgot how great this is.' I'm sure my neighbors did too.
Henry Rollins is that guy inside of you when your down and out and people still won't leave you alone despite you being smarter and superior in every way of their fat ugly asses.
There are three people who I've always wanted to have a conversation with in my life, one is Mike Muir from Suicidal Tendencies, another is Mike Patton from Faith no more, but more than them Henry Rollins is one I would kill to have a pint with. He's a very important thinking for my generation
Is he retired from music now? All I've seen lately is the spoken word stuff, which is great but............he has always been the answer to all of the bullshit music out there. I think this might be why music today is so horrible, Rollinsband ain't there to keep the bullshit in check.
@OtterpopSlaughterMop Technically, he is not retired from music now. Henry Rollins had a jam session studio with friends relatively recently (in 2006 I believe), he is still able to sing and his body would perfectly tolerate a new tour, and he would appreciate doing this.
But he doesn't want to sing old songs, so before touring he said it would be mandatory to have a new album, which is currently difficult because he chose other priorities. I'd like to see him as the next governor of California
@OtterpopSlaughterMop his spoken word stuff is his current way of self-expression. Remember in all those Black Flag and Rollins Band interviews he always said music was just his self-expression, if he was in it for profit he woulda done it way differently.
So now, his poetry and travels and storytelling = his way of sharing his unique point of view, and inspiring others to speak out and act out in creative, honest, real ways.
@OtterpopSlaughterMop No, he works on new stuff, when he has trouble righting or gets busy with other stuff he takes breaks with the band and does the spoken words.
lol well if this was the mid 1990s, mtv would have Rollin Bands music videos, but since this is 2011, everyone wants youth, youth, youth. Henry Rollins has his own show where he interviews musicians, he also likes to do a whole lot of things besides music. Even though he respects Bob Dylan for only wanting to do just music. He likes spoken word cause he has a lot to say, but I am pretty sure he would be touring music none the less.
Yeah I love disconnect too. That's another one I blast. "Pull my brainstem out and unplug myself. I want nothing right now. I WANNA PULL IT OUT!!!!!!"
Dude this song defines me. I'm not ashamed to admit it. Its cool to have someone like Rollins to bring it to the fore front it feels good but its kind of inspirational in a way; "you'd see yourself so differently believe me."
I think alot of people feel this way they just don't admit it. When I have shitty ass day I blast this song in my apartment and go fuck'n nuts.
Henry says stuff that is just too real. If Henry sat me down for a conversation, he would probably tear my mind apart, send me home crying, and force me to reassess my life and values. There's no BSing this guy.

"Rock and roll" often connotes "rebllion" in American society. Add "punk" to that and you have, I don't know, hardcore rebellion I guess. But, rebellion to what?
In the world, unless you live in a container called "your world," there are these things called "authorities." They exercise an idea known as "power." And it comes in various earthly forms. The Highest Power belongs to no man. But look up in the sky and wonder (and hope it's not going to fall on you). NASA only holds some answers

Rollins leaves nothing left in the tank after ANY performance. Very few artists can do that. He's not into the bullshit, the money, the fame - nothing. He's all about the facts, his opinion. Never disappointing. Smash'em out Henry.
This is definitely one of Rollin's Bands best songs. Henry is just a little to intelligent for some people to understand, so they talk shit about somebody they know nothing about. But Henry is a smart motherfucker, if you ever get a chance read some of his books. Very dark and intellectual stuff.
I remember the first time I saw this clip many years ago, and I remember how much it floored me. Another fantastic example of music for music's, and not fashion's, sake.
he reminds me of Keller from the tv show OZ...

the spoken word is awsome, but this music is nothing compared to Black Flag, and Greg Ginn wrote most of the songs anyway
deathbyTV 2 years ago
Meh, to each their own... ^_^
I appreciate your opinion, but I don't agree.
I like Black Flag, but I prefer Rollins' own writing and work. He didn't mesh with BF all that well, and on his own he's brilliant.
In my opinion, when it comes to Rollins, the music is secondary to the lyrics and message of the song. It's like poetry to background music.
In the case of Black Flag, the music and lyrics are on the same par - and in some cases the music alone is the carrying point.
SisterOfKarn 2 years ago
That's kind of a huge slap to the fucking face to the musicianship of these guys. Listen to that bass, calling that background music?

Rollins leaves nothing left in the tank after ANY performance. Very few artists can do that. He's not into the bullshit, the money, the fame - nothing. He's all about the facts, his opinion. Never disappointing. Smash'em out Henry.

This is definitely one of Rollin's Bands best songs. Henry is just a little to intelligent for some people to understand, so they talk shit about somebody they know nothing about. But Henry is a smart motherfucker, if you ever get a chance read some of his books. Very dark and intellectual stuff.

Thank you for posting a positive, and constructive comment, Unlike half of the comments on here saying that Henry is just full of himself and stupid.

I remember the first time I saw this clip many years ago, and I remember how much it floored me. Another fantastic example of music for music's, and not fashion's, sake.
