here's the bottom line w/ this MMA/boxing debate-like you said, ANY MMA fighter will DEMOLISH any Boxer in the cage-i.e. Toney vs. couture. It would be the same result if you were to put BJ Penn and Mayweather in a cage. The converse of that would be true-any boxer will beat any MMA fighter in a ring (under boxing rules). It will probably be more of exciting and somewhat more entertaining to watch an MMA fighter step in a ring wiht a boxer than the other way around.

@Panthera0nca True but you're referring to the post rooney tyson of 1989 on...
before 89,tyson had to go 12 rounds a few times and the opponents were trying to hit him back and he was so elusive and making them miss even into the 12th round. That was the difference in the two tysons. 1990 tyson got ko'd by douglas, early 1989 tyson stops any douglas in 5 or less.
@Panthera0nca Correction, early 1988 tyson ko's douglas ,not early 89.TYson peaked in late 87 to early 88.Ironically,the spinks fight, tyson was already on the decline in technique taught him.
Say all you want but Tyson DOES NOT have any victories over top class opponents in their primes on his record. No wins over the best of his era - Holyfield, Lewis or Bowe.
@Panthera0nca Tucker could beat holyfield, lewis and bowe when tucker was in HIS prime the period when he ko'd a fit douglas. Its easy to say,as a monday morning quaterback that tucker sucked because tyson didnt prove anything when he was already declined, then you have to omit the tucker win.NAH.not true.Tucker was 6'5" undefeated and ko'd and blitzed out a fit douglas fighting for his father and the first championship.Tucker could have easily beaten holy, overrated bowe and lewis in tuckers prime
@Panthera0nca Also ,look how stunningly easy and how tyson decapitated holmes who was still a quality capable exchamp who,incidently,5 yrs later, took holyfield, who was fighting in his very best prime,a 12 rounder and almost a draw!!!!!!!Tyson was that good for that short period under the toutalidge of rooney and damato spirit and ability and conditioning that was BETEER then holyfield who admitted it on oprah winfrey..Accept it as a fact, you'll sleep better at night.
@Panthera0nca Actually tucker was a very excellent dancing boxer who could throw the jab,mix it up with speed and turn a fighter and throw excellent combinations and had a goood chin.he could have easily beaten Bowe the BUM.I saw Herbie Hide kick bowes ass.C'MON!!!!!! I saw Mccall and rahman kick lewis ass,I saw bert cooper with one pun ch away from koing a prime holyfield. Its just unfortunate that cooper was a horrible finisher, unlike a young tyson who would have put holys lights out in 1988.
@Panthera0nca You knock tysons legacy because you rate it as a whole career.Tyson retired after the spinks fight because he never trained the same way so you do an injustice by knocking his career because he fought for 3 yrs seriously and the next 7 yrs as a punck who didnt train correctly, abandoned all the tecniques of damato that he learned and you think its the same guy who faced a douglas or holyfield.Well,it wasnt tysons fault that holy and lewis wernt around in their primes in 86-88.
@Panthera0nca As shitty as spinks was,I'll bet YOU even thought it would be a test for tyson, right??? Spinks was the other champ, but ,of course, when tyson ko's spinks in 90 seconds, you say spinks now sucks real bad and it wasnt a test for tyson.spinks,on that period ,could have easily outpointed holyfield, lewis and bowe.He ko'd cconey when no one thought he could.
@Panthera0nca I think you should give credit to tyson for looking amazing and training better then holyfield would,in the periods of 1985 thru 88 which inc,1youngest champ ever 2.8 title defenses before his 23rd birthday! 3.beat 2 champs,2 exchamps and various contenders,4.looked better against guys who the others fought and didnt look better with. 5.even Ali voted tyson as the best ever on the arsinio hall show in 1989.This was all because tyson fought CORRECTLY ,the way damato envisioned.
Sorry but I couldn't even be bothered to read all you wrote, mainly because your grammar is that of a schoolboy (my apologies if you are a schoolboy). Tyson will always be massively overrated because he was iconic and exciting and therefore people will make endless excuses for his losses.
@Panthera0nca Sorry to respond,I didn't know you were such a DIK!!!! Yes DIck like your DIK head is spelled DIK! you stupid DIK. How's my grammer now DIK!
@Panthera0nca DOn't bother trying to give back the ball,DIK.I won't be reading your posts,DIK.You see,now the entire tyson fanbase on youtube know you are a complete DIK! Still friends?
@Panthera0nca You are the dumbest motherfucker on youtube...you know absolutely nothing about boxing or fighters and should not be allowed to post your rediculous comments. Your a holyfield nutthugger and Tyson hater. Guess what though your boy was a roid head/growth hormone taking/head butting/wife beating cheat. You are a waste of space and you have diareah of the keyboard. Cheers FAG :)
Diego Maradona? Mike Tyson? (You can't even spell 'Maradona')
These are your heroes huh? They may have been talented at their professions but as people they are both nasty, violent, classless individuals with no concept of sportsmanship.
@Panthera0nca That name was taken DUMBASS. Sportsmanship!!!??? Holyfeild was the dirtiest fighter of the 90's, a wife beater and a fraud! Damn dude your hella ugly
@animechamps1994 he said punchers are born as in ko punchers, he means some people no matter how big or strong they are no matter what they do they don't have ko power, but some people are just born with that special power like tyson, foreman, hearns to name a few..
@animechamps1994 "That guy" as you so elegantly put it, is Teddy Atlas, Mike Tyson's first trainer with Cus D'Amato. Cus taught Teddy everything he knows and was the first trainer to teach Mike how to box. I think he knows a thing or two about the sport. What he's saying is natural punching power cannot be taught. You either have the ability to put a guy to sleep or you don't. You might not know how to USE that ability until you're taught, but the power is natural.
Tyson is the authority for any boxer's training. I kickboxing and trains I like Tyson. I agree he was a freak but his career is something great. This guy is a beast of iron. Achieves what I'd like Tyson.
I hate Don King with a passion. He was the mastermind that lead to the demise of Tysons skills and career for his own greed. Milked Tyson for tens of millions, and pulled what moral foundation Tyson had out from under him. I hope you burn in hell motherfucker, you ruined the Marciano of my generation. Tyson would have went 50-0 EASY.
I don't think people ever consider though Tyson got them fights for a reason. Tyson was a kid from the streets and he got money and that is what can happen. Now Tyson is sitting on top of a building playing with birds broke because of himself. No one made Mike Tyson do all the things he did. Mike Tyson made the decisions himself.
@Monarch816 Your age is showing, guess you had to live thru the era to REALLY see it. While under the tutelage of Cus, Tyson was a carrying himself well and was repectful, had Cus not died Tyson would have continued on a BETTER path. While he made the choices, had he been given more time I dont think he would have. And Tyson was into homing pigeons in his childhood previous to his career.
@6GUNSOUTH Tyson was the mastermind that led to his demise in his skills by leaving rooney and the damato camp.Blame tyson for becoming a class B fighter with a good sloppy right hand and a missing followup left that holy and douglas both figured out immedietely! That's the REAL skinny on what happened. You heard the only truth here first!!
@fadethetrade Yeah Tyson made his decisions....but people are influenced, just as when in Cus's camp, Tyson was focused.. Had Cus not passed away Tyson would have snuffed Marciano's record easily and tied Ali for the greatest heavyweight ever, and as today people could only speculate who would beat who. But NO Tyson was not the mastermind that lead to his destruction. Had things not changed, Tyson the mature and fully developed fighter would have destroyed, Holyfield, Bowe and Lewis.
The downslide began when Cus died though. He didn't take that well. From that point on HE made poor decisions. He wasn't innocent in all of this. He let that con man into his life. He alienated Atlas and his family, and he made the decision to fire Rooney (granted, with pressure from King and his entourage). Mike brought it all upon himself.
If Cus had been around he never would have allowed these distractions, but nobody can live forever.
@6GUNSOUTH "I found out that someone I believed was my surrogate father, my brother, my blood figure turns out to be the true Uncle Tom, the true nigger, the true sellout. He did more bad to black fighters than any white promoter ever in the history of boxing." - Mike Tyson
Totally in line with that! but of all the people other than Tyson that really fucked up their potential and careers was Bowe. Dude had some shit, some brilliant moments and then WTF? Some things Bowe did reminded me of a mix of Holmes, Foreman and Ali. The late 80's early 90's was good times for the heavy's, as was the 70's tho. Dunno, didnt like the Lewis era and definately dont like the Klitschko era either.
Tyson couldnt face the fact he was beatable (Douglas) ... and went downhill? Is one of the most fucked up ill concieved quotes I have ever read! Get your facts right - Tyson was already going downhill way prior to the Douglas fight. Tyson defeated Tyson.
Tysons skills had started to erode before he peaked. The Douglas fight was a blind opportunity for him, Tyson was so mentally fucked he shouldn't have even been in there. Tyson would have easily went 50-0 had he kept his shit together, and fuck Lewis he would have gotten his ass kicked but not by the Tyson who came out of jail.
Holy fuck are you on crack? Mercer was a WBO bum, who lost to Holmes and Ferguson who Tyson DESTROYED. Michael Moorer an inconsistant flash in the pan. I remember when Holyfield was coming up from cruiserweight he could hardly make lightheavy and then BING-he's a bulked up robo boxer heavyweight huh? Tyson would have chopped Foreman down like he did dropkick Holmes. The fight Id liked to seen was Bowe in his prime vs Tyson in his time. Trouble killed Tysons career, HE DUCKED NO-ONE.
Tyson may have had one of the best knockout punches ever, but what I think was crazy was his ability to slip punches on the inside and out and not get knocked out himself! Whether he was standing in front of you peekaboo or trading hard blows... Tyson would land 3-4-5 punches to one. He was such a badass to watch! He made his opponents miss, you know they were like, "I know I can kill this motherfucker... If I can just hit him! Wish Tyson hadn't unraveled!
Tyson couldn't handle the fact he was beatable (Douglas) and went down hill... Still explosive but ducked every good fighter out there! Mercer, Bowe, Moorer, Foreman, Lewis (until he needed the money)...
Tyson would of fucked them all up. He went down hill because he had a lot of personal problems. He let that get in the way of his fighting. Still was the most feared boxer of all time.
Atlas is 100% right...you cannot make a puncher. You cannot create a knockout puncher, you can take someone who has that natural power and teach them how to use it. You can have all the muscles and technique in the world and still not be considered a knockout puncher...
come on people use common sense. it's a combination of a lot of factors...you can be born a puncher, but if you don't practice, train your technique, speed, and power will be nothing. So it's both genetic and training
i agree even if genetically the other person is better if your willing to do more than they are train harder truly devote yourself 100 percent then anyone can do it
U are brilliant, and Atlas is 100% right! a long time ago, and in terms of boxing sport he still may be right.
But now anyone can have ko power just type in
Mas Oyama, Tyson was blessed with knocking out all most any fighter, Mas Oyama can kill a fighter with his punch's, but trained to earned his ability. This man can literately break the horn off a bull head. His nick name was the bull fighter.
Sorry man, but there's no such thing as a natural anything. Everything comes with time and training. Natural talent is someone knowing how to do something at a high level without training at all, and I can guarantee you that no one that like that exist.
it is like mike's face, body and soul was created in hell, and brought together perfectly on earth. No one looks like him or acts like him, he is a perfect demon in humman form.he is a god! bad mother fucker!
Teddy Atlas is the most annoying bastard in the whole world. I hope he gets shot in the face, OMG! He's such a media whore and he tries to use Cus D'Amato's sayings to sound like he knows what he's talking about.
I wanna kick him in his balls. I wish Mike woulda shoved a shovel up his ass.
That look! 1:57 opponent is shitting himself... he can't stand still, in my opinion it's a sign of nerves when you move about like he did at the start
OMG!!! the look in his eyes when he's facing his opponent!!! like the devil himself! just look at 1:57, the way he's moving his tongue inside his mouth and the look in his eyes like he's saying, Im gonna rape your wife and dog, eat your babies and chew on your ears you wht. peace-O' sheeeit!
1:55 man he has devil eyes ready to rip that guy up but the reason tyson use to do that to his oopents was to get in there head n try n break there spirit
lol his stare downs in his prime were as devastating as his punches. Later on he start looking real calm, when he was too calm u knew something was wrong like with douglas, even tho he was a nicer guy with rooney he was a meaner guy in the ring.
People always talk shit on Mike, as a person, he has made some dumb choices...Agreed?...as an athlete he was able to offer us the most volitale and devastating Heavy Champ we have ever seen. I am too young to have followed Ali's career so for me Iron Mike was the "shit". Only other guy who wanted to just drive you to dust was "Big" George Foreman, dont let the sales smile fool you, this guy wanted to kill people, just like Mike
people are the same u know why? because any person can change himself totally and completely. its just people are stuck on that one pattarn, way of doing things, way of learning/absorbing information etc. Every man has the ability to do what another man can do and vice verca. Its just people use their brain/body differently (it can be changed through proper thinking). IT DOESNT MEAN there is "individuality". IT DOESNT MEAN each one of us are "unique".
mr KokeJr there are people out who spend their whole lives trying to be like others (but never do). that right there is failure attitue. U should be urself. Bruce lee quote: "dont go out for a successfull personality and duplicate it". If u dont have faith in urself, if u are trying to emulate someone else; u will always never be as good as the person u are trying to emulate. Lession: BE URSELF 100%. that is step 1. Step 2 is educate urself properly (thats why people never succed in their life)
and also, me training for long periods of time practicing the same thing over and over...really helped me later in what would be an amateur career in boxing with many successful wins. My dream one day is to turn pro, but along with that follows strict diet, training and pure torture. I was born pretty muscular, but that is as far as genetics goes. Me being able to punch well and hard is due to hard work and training. Thanks again for enlightening many people on youtube.
mr KokeJr. how do u know what i know/dont know? are u god??? must be. also everything i said is true. to sum up what i said; using genetics as an excuse is bullshit. If u have absolute determination and will power; there is no stopping u (i dont care who u are).
I Totally agree with you. Punchers not being created, but born is infact bullshit. Same with being the best fighter there is, which is not genetic but hard work in the gym. Not to give away to much of myself, but I was a 18 year old with 222 pounds. After 12 years of Traditional martial arts and so, I was a good kicker, but not a very good boxer. I started boxing but could not move the bag. Took me 5 years where I am now to be able to strike powerfully. Hard work, and I've developed that power.
when he trained hard and was focused. He was a God.

@Panthera0nca You knock tysons legacy because you rate it as a whole career.Tyson retired after the spinks fight because he never trained the same way so you do an injustice by knocking his career because he fought for 3 yrs seriously and the next 7 yrs as a punck who didnt train correctly, abandoned all the tecniques of damato that he learned and you think its the same guy who faced a douglas or holyfield.Well,it wasnt tysons fault that holy and lewis wernt around in their primes in 86-88.
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@Panthera0nca As shitty as spinks was,I'll bet YOU even thought it would be a test for tyson, right??? Spinks was the other champ, but ,of course, when tyson ko's spinks in 90 seconds, you say spinks now sucks real bad and it wasnt a test for tyson.spinks,on that period ,could have easily outpointed holyfield, lewis and bowe.He ko'd cconey when no one thought he could.
fadethetrade 1 year ago

6GUNSOUTH 2 years ago 75
@6GUNSOUTH
Monarch816 1 year ago

You heard the only truth here first!!
fadethetrade 1 year ago
@fadethetrade Yeah Tyson made his decisions....but people are influenced, just as when in Cus's camp, Tyson was focused.. Had Cus not passed away Tyson would have snuffed Marciano's record easily and tied Ali for the greatest heavyweight ever, and as today people could only speculate who would beat who. But NO Tyson was not the mastermind that lead to his destruction. Had things not changed, Tyson the mature and fully developed fighter would have destroyed, Holyfield, Bowe and Lewis.
6GUNSOUTH 1 year ago

He did more bad to black fighters than any white promoter ever in the history of boxing." - Mike Tyson
jazsyng 1 year ago
Totally in line with that! but of all the people other than Tyson that really fucked up their potential and careers was Bowe. Dude had some shit, some brilliant moments and then WTF? Some things Bowe did reminded me of a mix of Holmes, Foreman and Ali. The late 80's early 90's was good times for the heavy's, as was the 70's tho. Dunno, didnt like the Lewis era and definately dont like the Klitschko era either.
6GUNSOUTH 2 years ago
Tyson couldnt face the fact he was beatable (Douglas) ... and went downhill? Is one of the most fucked up ill concieved quotes I have ever read! Get your facts right - Tyson was already going downhill way prior to the Douglas fight. Tyson defeated Tyson.
6GUNSOUTH 2 years ago
Tysons skills had started to erode before he peaked. The Douglas fight was a blind opportunity for him, Tyson was so mentally fucked he shouldn't have even been in there. Tyson would have easily went 50-0 had he kept his shit together, and fuck Lewis he would have gotten his ass kicked but not by the Tyson who came out of jail.
6GUNSOUTH 2 years ago
6GUNSOUTH 2 years ago
Tyson may have had one of the best knockout punches ever, but what I think was crazy was his ability to slip punches on the inside and out and not get knocked out himself! Whether he was standing in front of you peekaboo or trading hard blows... Tyson would land 3-4-5 punches to one. He was such a badass to watch! He made his opponents miss, you know they were like, "I know I can kill this motherfucker... If I can just hit him! Wish Tyson hadn't unraveled!
6GUNSOUTH 2 years ago
Tyson couldn't handle the fact he was beatable (Douglas) and went down hill... Still explosive but ducked every good fighter out there! Mercer, Bowe, Moorer, Foreman, Lewis (until he needed the money)...
sw1000xg 2 years ago
Tyson would of fucked them all up. He went down hill because he had a lot of personal problems. He let that get in the way of his fighting. Still was the most feared boxer of all time.

Atlas is 100% right...you cannot make a puncher. You cannot create a knockout puncher, you can take someone who has that natural power and teach them how to use it. You can have all the muscles and technique in the world and still not be considered a knockout puncher...
Freethinker4 2 years ago 17
come on people use common sense. it's a combination of a lot of factors...you can be born a puncher, but if you don't practice, train your technique, speed, and power will be nothing. So it's both genetic and training

people are the same u know why? because any person can change himself totally and completely. its just people are stuck on that one pattarn, way of doing things, way of learning/absorbing information etc. Every man has the ability to do what another man can do and vice verca. Its just people use their brain/body differently (it can be changed through proper thinking). IT DOESNT MEAN there is "individuality". IT DOESNT MEAN each one of us are "unique".
sodumb123 2 years ago
mr KokeJr there are people out who spend their whole lives trying to be like others (but never do). that right there is failure attitue. U should be urself. Bruce lee quote: "dont go out for a successfull personality and duplicate it". If u dont have faith in urself, if u are trying to emulate someone else; u will always never be as good as the person u are trying to emulate. Lession: BE URSELF 100%. that is step 1. Step 2 is educate urself properly (thats why people never succed in their life)
sodumb123 2 years ago
and also, me training for long periods of time practicing the same thing over and over...really helped me later in what would be an amateur career in boxing with many successful wins. My dream one day is to turn pro, but along with that follows strict diet, training and pure torture. I was born pretty muscular, but that is as far as genetics goes. Me being able to punch well and hard is due to hard work and training. Thanks again for enlightening many people on youtube.
gentorz 2 years ago
mr KokeJr. how do u know what i know/dont know? are u god??? must be. also everything i said is true. to sum up what i said; using genetics as an excuse is bullshit. If u have absolute determination and will power; there is no stopping u (i dont care who u are).
sodumb123 2 years ago 3
I Totally agree with you. Punchers not being created, but born is infact bullshit. Same with being the best fighter there is, which is not genetic but hard work in the gym. Not to give away to much of myself, but I was a 18 year old with 222 pounds. After 12 years of Traditional martial arts and so, I was a good kicker, but not a very good boxer. I started boxing but could not move the bag. Took me 5 years where I am now to be able to strike powerfully. Hard work, and I've developed that power.
