  • HAHA "I mutilated my gauge cluster and poked some shit with a stick at your suggestion. THANKS CHUCK!!!"

    What an idiot.

  • Dumb people here talking crap about a fix that worked for THAT guy. He was apparently just fine with that small hole being there. If it was me, personally, I would have made changes to the recommendation and simply removed the plastic covering the needle to that I wouldn't have a hole. Not the easiest thing in the world to do, but still perfectly doable. Then just use your finger to stop the needle and not have a hole.

  • There seem to be a lot of pissed-off people here! This is a recommended procedure But, It is recommended on GM vehicles that have the Odometer reset button, and you go through the 'Stem" ffor the reset with a paper clip and move the needle down! This guy will have to plug this hole or he will have a problem with dust/moisture intrusion into the IPC (Instrument panel cluster) 28 Year Master, L-1 Technician

  • hahah i took it out and shake the cluster back to 0 wen i had mine poiting at 120 lol

  • You should have just unbolted the housing and fixed it by hand thats just stupid

  • o damn... i would beat someones ass if they did this to my car... straight up stupid...

  • This always happens on GMs. I've always fixed it by just replugging the battery, usually just once or twice fixes it.

  • Jack ass. Let me know were your shop is so I wont take my car there. A real tech would have told him to pop off the cluster cover and remove 4 7mm screws and pop off the cluster cover and reset it. So buddy he didnt fix it he rigged it

  • what a fucking tool the old man on the video is a lame ass mechanic, chucks is more retarded for taking the old mans advice i mean who the fuck does this shit ? just take the shit apart and move it with your finger and if your to lazy and stupid to do that then you dont deserve to drive or get near a car ....

  • assclown, if i ever see you destroy another camaro like that ..... you will be fucked chuck ! literally ! asshole, build a camaro that will do 120 ..........v-6 you pussy whipped economical jack off obama turd eating shithead !

  • you should have massaged the top of the dash slightly with your 5 pound sledge hammer ! assclown actually drilled a fuckin hole , chuck ...you need to drill a hole in youe ass so you can poop !

  • If he wants to put a small hole in his cover to fix it.. then go for it. some cars cost a lot to take apart and replace clusters. personally i don't know about this one. I personally would have taken it apart to fix it. and if in the process accidentally broke something like i did on my own car. JUNK YARD. cheap and easy fix. idk how common Camaros are in junkyards right now but it wasn't hard to find what i was looking for and Geo storms are hard to find not smashed already

  • Here is my suggestion... Do NOT drill a hole in your cluster.

Seriously; you told him to drill a hole in his cluster?

That cluster is one of the easiest clusters to remove, once its out, you can remove the clear case to access the speedo needle.

I can't believe he drilled a hole in his cluster.

What are you going to say when he asks how to change the ATF in his 4L60E; tell him to drill a hole in the trans pan and patch it with bubble gum?

  • Personally I just removed the speedo plastic and bezel first did the same thing.. , its takes 5 mins and 4 boits to remove , and a kitchen knife. to extract the plastic cover. to barbaric for me .!;-)

  • common problem on GMs I have found.

  • 02 camaro max speed on the speedo is only 120? hashaha

  • @falconsfan720 i think thats for the v6 models, the ls1 camaros have a 160 mph speedo

  • A way to finish off that center hole that you had to drill would be to go to the auto parts store and get their smallest plastic gromet and insert it into the hole for a more finished look.

  • I know my modis has cluster testing on most newer cars where you can test each gauge by moving them.PS I never tryed to reset them with it tho

  • You can somtimes blow it back with shop air at the reset botton!

  • how is it barbaric as long as it is a small hole it is a quick and easy fix

  • I always worry when I work on a car that I might mess something up. This would have been a nightmare when I realized that just by disengaging the battery I did something to the speedometer. Was this vehicle driven after the power to the speedometer was removed? Is there a way to consistently prevent this from happening?

  • Is there steps we can take to prevent this from happening? on this car or any car for that matter.

  • people do it all the time. most people dont want to spend the money on a new cluster. dont do it if it bothers you. go out and spend 500 on a new one.

  • Why didn't you just tell him to take out the cluster and move it by hand? Now he has a hole in his cluster cover...

  • @sweetlikeADAM x2.. The clusters come real easy out of these cars too!

  • @sweetlikeADAM Maybe the gauge cluster is an assembly and the speedometer mechanics are sealed behind the plastic cover? If that's the case that's your only option do that or replace the assembly. This is the only logical reason I could think of for doing something like this.

  • @Bushougoma Well, actually I don't think they seal any of the cover for repair purposes. Even if they did, he could have taken the cluster out, and drilled the hole in a non-visible place.

  • @Bushougoma nope there not sealed , the plastic cover is only clipped in place in 4 places on top of the Speedo instrument cluster , a blunt kitchen knife does the trick , why do you think the get so much dust under there .. ))) lazy ,cheapskate GM !

  • @sweetlikeADAM Yea, i wouldn't drill a hole in my cover that would just be damn right annoying.

  • Wow, that is bizarre!!

  • Wow such a barbaric fix, yet it worked wonderfully. Great video ;)
