i miss bells every day!!!!!! ive been waiting now years for the re-open. we r praying they open again soon. i love the video!!!! me n my hubby went there back when we were dating and now we r a family of 4 wanting 2 get season passes every year!!!!!!! we want r kids to grow up with this tradition, its a tulsa birthright and its been taken away from them:(
Thank You so much for posting this.I'm from Tulsa, don't live there anymore, but this was an annual thing you could do all year! Nothing beats it to this day.Tears in my eyes I haven't seen this in years. Why would they close Bell's? ahh! And I'm so glad to hear others feel the same about it.Childhood memories last forever!
My first roller coaster experience. Nothing since has compared. We rode it annually and would then eat at Casa Bonita. Wasn't a good idea to do it in the other order!
my mom used to work at kwitset (a lock and doorknob business) and every summer we would get tickets to go. we went for 5 years in a row, and i miss it so much. i was really young at the time, and the last year we went, was the year i got to ride the Zingo. it's been almost 10 years since that day, i believe... wow, i really miss it lol
Nice video! You did an excellent job holding the camera as steady as you could. Looks like Bell's may have found a possible location in Wagoner County near Coweta according to the Amusement Today article. All that's left is to vote on it and then rebuild Bell's. Look's like I'll possibly be making my first trip out to Bell's once it's been rebuilt.
@gwinfamily I remember that clown too. I remember the tunnel before they added the clown face on it. It was about the same. But I remember the first time I saw that clown, I thought I was going to hit my head on the bottom of it.
i remember the day the day i went to bells they had a accident on the wildcat next to the hauntedhouse !! im not sure why they tore bells down though anyone know???
@neader2 The city of Tulsa took it over and forced Bell's to relocate. Mostly because Bell's wanted to build another rollercoaster. After battleing it out in court for 5 years, Bell's won the lawsuit and the director of the Chamber of Commerce is the asshole that ripped up Bell's contract and told them to leave.
@mjt19741 If it doesn't matter what actually happened, why take the time to comment in the first place? And why get upset when someone else has something to say that contradicts you?
@wonderboyjohnny Then why did you comment on this? Just to prove that you are right and everyone else is always wrong. Someone asked why the park closed and I responded and someone told me it was a different situation. So this conversation had nothing to do with you.
@mjt19741 Actually, I did not claim to have any sort of information regarding the closure of the park. Simply curious as to why you were upset that someone was "like trying to correct" you. I am not sure as to how I could "prove that I am right and everyone else is always wrong" if I offered no information - simply commented on your immaturity. Though I would like to point out that you decided to have this "conversation" on a public forum, leaving it open to public comment.
Thanks for posting! Love the sound of the chains bringing up the cars on that first big hill - nothing like it. Always looked to see the Tulsa skyline on the big curve after the tunnel.
I have great memories of my Dad's employer -DX Sun Oil, providing free ice cream and rides every summer at Bell's through the sixties and early seventies.
Zingo was built by the Philadelphia Toboggan Company, a long-time amusement ride manufacturer. They built the very first wooden roller coasters, and I believe still make them to this day. The also created the famous "Laffing Sal" that sits at the also famous Santa Cruz boardwalk.
even if they rebuild zingo in another location, it wont be the same, because I won't be able to see my grandma's house from the top... lol
there is no question, even after riding gargantuan mega-coasters at bigger parks around the country, this was always THE best wooden coaster ever! without a doubt!!!
What a great video! I grew up in Tulsa and know Zingo very well. How in the world did the rider hold hold on to the camera. Little alone hold it steady ?
I am working on a documentary about Bell's. I am looking for some people who would like to be interviewed about their memories of Bell's. Must be 18 years or older. Looking for stories like "It was our first date" or "I went there when i was young and we took our children there also."
Also any old films of the park like this POV Zingo or other. The older the better. I have a lot from the Bell family but am interested in personal film from back in the '60s and '70s. Thanks
gearsguy the 'news on 6' (KOTV, local CBS affiliate) did a story on this, its linked off the wikipedia page for Bell's Amusement Park. The claim is the family that owned the fairgrounds saw it as competition and had political friends kick the Bells family out. Unbelievable.
OMG God Bless You for posting this! I never thought I'd ever experience Zingo again because of freakin' Randi Miller. My sister just called and told me this was on here. I have watched it over and over and can feel the wind in my face. I grew up living behind Mayo Meadows, playing at Bell's, and that WITCH robbed Tulsa. Again, bless you for allowing us to relive the magic that was Zingo. I hope they can relocate someday. Awesome video!!! :-D (I held my hands up!)
It is a crime that the county didn't renew the lease on Bell's and that they had to take Zinzo down. It was my first rollercoaster ride back in 1974, before the little underground tunnel was built. I was a ride operator in 1976. I hope that they can get a new site, Jenks would be my location of choice, since I went to HS there.
thank you..unclemuttley for posting this! i wish i could find more videos on the other rides do you have any? gladly to say i worked for bell's for more than four seasons. this was my first job i met alot of people one of which is my now husband. we met back in 2002 and have been together since we married this past october. so because of all the memories bell's will always be a part of my life. it breaks my heart i'm sadden my children wont ever be able to make their own memories. so again thanx
I agree thanks to the person who posted it, I miss Bells dearly and can only hope they can reopen specially when I recall the night lights on zingo going in sequence with the train! Somebody please reopen Bells!
I miss Bell's Amusement Park! It sucks they had to tear the place down! The Zingo was my first roller coaster, and in my opinion my favorite wooden roller coaster! I know it's just a rumor, but I hope they move to Sand Springs!! I live there!!
wow.i didnt get a chance to ride the zingo one last time before everything fell apart.the fair this year was just boring.i didnt enjoy it at the least.and i heard that there gonna move the fair to another location every year.they just wanna take everything away from Tulsa
Well said, it wasn't the biggest roller coaster in the world, but growing up it was the best Tulsa had to offer. It does have a classic design to it with it tapering off into the smaller hills, relying completely on gravity. I also missed that giant water tower that stood near it.
I get into an almost zen-like state watching this video. Here I sit in Los Angeles... able to relive my treasured Tulsa childhood with every hill and turn of that beautiful rollercoaster. Bell's and the Mighty Zingo will live forever in my heart and memories. And really... I can't thank you enough for posting this... so those of us who truly appreciated the place can always come back for one more ride. Long live Bell's Amusement Park!

Man, THANK YOU! That was so nostalgic. I wish I could go back to the 80s and be a kid again. I heard Bells was shut down several months ago and my heart sank. Thanks for letting me ride the Zingo again.
what makes you think they're moving it to sand springs? it's still up in the air and sand springs is the last place anybody in tulsa would want bells to go.

QT paid off Taylors campaign debt, then bailed out Miller to clear the former site of Bells, in exchange for renaming the IPE center "Quik Trip center". Very well run chain store, ownes the current mayor of Tulsa.
