This was the first appearance of a She-Hulk character. Benny Hill based it on the Hulk TV show. Stan Lee published the comic w/ full original origin story in a response to this so he would ensure Marvel owned the publication rights to a she hulk character.
Actually, with the success of the "Hulk" tv show, there were rumors & speculation that Universal (which produced the show)might spin-off a female version. Marvel's concern (read:fear) was that if Universal created a female hulk, Marvel would not have any claim to the character. So to prevent this they (Marvel) created "The She-Hulk". Sadly, the first book was lame.
