That's true, but it still totally suprised me that the two most famous "lefties" of world football: Messi and Maradona, both write with their right hands! Especially as they are both SO completely left-footed! Which makes me wonder, are they right-handed through nature or nurture? In many catholic countries (eg ireland) the teachers used to force you to write with your right hand even if you were left handed. Is this the case in Argentina I wonder?
@MrHokeykokey well im mexican so i cant really know if that happens in argentina but actually i have an uncle born as a lefty and his parents forced him to write as a right handed. Though i personally believe that its still more probable that he is naturally right handed and left footed. I have actually seen more right handed left footed(including myself) than left handed footed so i think it could be more probable that he was born that way.
The thing that confuses me about this subject is that your hand/foot dominance is supposed to be linked to brain hemisphere dominance: So a bigger right brain should mean your left side is dominant, and vice versa, so I don't understand how someone can be left handed but right footed, even though this obviously can happen. Surely one whole side should be dominant? I'm a total Lefty by the way, so it's hard for me to imagine the feeling of being left footed but right handed.
@MrHokeykokey you didn't understand the point my friend.. you are lucky your parents detect you on time you was lefty or your teachers.. but hundreds of lefty write with the right handed, i start school when i was only 2 years old my teacher teach me to write with my right so there was no other option for me.. i can perfectly write with my left but i feel more comfortable writing with my right because this is the way i learn and get use to it.. this is so common you have no idea
Yes, this is what I was suggesting may have also happened with Messi and Maradona: That they would have naturally been left handed but they have grown up writing with their right hands all their life, so they choose to stick with this through force of habit because it feels more comfortable that way, as with you. Thankyou for explaining this my friend. :)
Hi again, I just looked up this phenomenon on "wikipedia" and thought you might also find it interesting (type "laterality" in wikipedia).
This is the term i was thinking of, which you described previously:
"When a person is forced to use the hand opposite of the hand that they would naturally use, this is known as "forced laterality", or more specifically "forced dextrality".
Apparently the same one person can be naturally left footed, right handed, left eared and right eyed! lol!
being right handed and left footed and viceversa is more common than what people think, i have the same condition. It actually presents about 17% of the people.
@VFreestyleUK OMG!!! so am i!! :)

I just remembered, they must both be naturally left handed, because both Diego and Messi's "Hand of God" goals were scored with their left hands! :D
