the police took me to court about 18 years ago for having a cobra 148 in my car 175quid fine 50quid costs and all my radio equipment ceased .. bastards
hello i have a mint condition mk2 myself, very good radios i heard you were off frequency a bit, an easy thing to sort out there are three variable resistors at the front end of the radio, it is the one on the left to adjust very simple,. thumbs up on the radio tho matey. im from worcestershire and a member of the charley tango dx group. good dx mate 73 /51
Now that was the Snake I used to own two in all Cobra 148 GTL-DX Is that a Snake roger bleep it sounds familiar since I've been 10-7 since 1987.
Sounds like its still active LOL 1:41 I see things haven't changed LOL I'm so tempted to get another Snake 148 GTL-DX clarify the KC and fine tune Oh yes I still have it in me after 23 years been off the air. WOW super radio 5/5 rating.
@gez021 Is the TVI still the same issues or has it gotten better with newer flat screens and digital tv?
I blew a TV set up around 1983 with 200watts to the next door neighbour he wasn't too pleased LOL I had faulty coaxial cable centre pin that was lose and was sending out a dodgy signal for a couple of week. It even sent the VCR in the livingroom to fast visual search and when I pressed visual search it went x4 fast LOL.

radios drift all the time the cobra 148 gtl-dx is on different from any other radio in this respect. drift is more noticeable in moderb day radios like the SS3900 ,magnum S9'S etc because modern radios like these either have the ability to attach frequency counters of have internal frquency counters fitted to them. i know of people who have had frequency counters fitted to their 148's and they were horrified when they saw how much they drifted, so the cobra isn't as accurate as people think.
you have to take into account that other components have to get warm too and heat makes things expand the very things that put a radio on frequency would adjust also from cold to warm they are very sensitive.
every cobra ive owned and ive owned a few i own one now infact each one has took 10 to 15 mins to warm up and in the time on ssb it is nessesary to ajust the clarifier as it warms even righ doctors that put them on frequency make shure the radio is warm before adjusting it as it will drift from cold to warm mine starts just before 12 and when warmed up it sits bang on 12 in the notch.
anyone know where i can get one serviced mine hasnt been used for 10 years

Cobras need a good 15 mins minimum of transmit. on ssb to get them warmed up to operating temperature, The frequency is always off when cold.

It is a solid state (transistors) no need to warm up because it do not have valves...
