Wow, I remember this machine when it came out 30 years ago! It was in the Northeastern University Game Room EL Center. The flippers always needed to be serviced by the pinball tech rep because the cue ball was just too damn heavy to be held by the flippers!
I remember playing this when I was a kid on the boardwalk - the ball only seemed to want to drain down the sides. Nothing else seemed to be an option. Good times though.
I think Atari rather missed the point all those years ago. The object of a pinball machine isn't massive size; the large inertia created by the cue ball creates a very dull and slow game. A pinball machine is supposed to test your skill and reflexes with a ball no bigger than about an inch in diameter, creating a fast motion with very low inertia. It's supposed to be a fun challenge not a guessing game as to where the ball is gonna end up, like the cue ball. Unique, inventive, but... dull.
Hercules represents the stereotypes, big dumb oaf with poor social skills. You are so enamored by the giant size of the person, but realize he wasn't given much brain power, so you can't talk to him much longer without being bored. Hercules represents this: bigger isn't always better.
we ran across one of these in salina kansas at the big truckstop... middle of the night, thought we were loosin it.... what a blast from the past!! thanks for posting
Back in 2003 I saw a couple of these machines at Cedar Point in Ohio. Was not really too exciting of a table to play, but it was neat seeing a couple of these giants.
There is Hercules pin in the classic arcade section on one of the piers in seaside heights nj. its a cool novelty but as you can see in the video the side drains claim about 85% of the balls!!
tilting this is pointless I bet. I only ever saw one of these in Blackpool england about 25 years ago..and the left flipper looked like it had worn through the linkage that flipped it.., just pointing down, very loose, but still the machine had massive attention.
And you wonder why Atari stopped making pinballs. Favourite one has to be Skybourne Avengers.

they should have used a normal pinball and normal size flippers, and added a universe of play field....

Yeah, you can tell from the video that you'll never play this twice. They could at least have made the machine steeper...

Just played this a few weeks ago at Cedar Point. Simply awful, but worth it just for the nostalgia and laughs.
