  • Chevy this, chevy that, Of course it was going to lose when the driver broke the one wheel wonder loose at launch, the CV was able to not only get a lead on, but it was able to keep its initial momentum up through the entire run. It doesn't matter what motor you have, if you fail at launch, you fail at race.

    sorry to tell you but there arent any fair race in this world and since ford never produced any crown vic with at least the matching displacement of the 350 you will never see a fair race

  • @lionelnut69 Yeah, you're full of crap on that. Only 1994-1996 5.7's were LT1. The 7 engine code for the earlier years only had 180-195 HP, depending on the year. The P engine code is the LT1. The 1991 Caprice with the 5.7L is, as the junk yard had said, nothing more than a truck engine that was stuffed into a caprice. Gas hog, and nothing special

  • All it takes for a vic to take a stock caprice is a slight tune up. i got a 97 vic and i have yet to be out run by a caprice, or an impala for that matter. all iv done to mine is upgraded spark plugs and a new intake manifold. and for this other dude i dust 302s all the time but the 351 Cleavland in my homies 79 vic puts my 4.6 to shame, as well as 90% of the 350s in town.

  • In 1992 there was an article in the Detroit News that compared the brand new (at the time) Crown Vic Police Interceptor with the Caprice 5.7 liter police car. They said the Chevy beat the Ford in all speed tests. And I like both cars so it's not that I favor one or the other.

  • @YoungLarry32 yeah it had the caprice vett lt1 but it aint got as much power as the vett motor i had a 9c1 that shit wuldent that powerful. thaat 9c1 has lt1 had 260 hp and 330feet lb of torque. the ls1 4.3 9c1 had 200 hp stock.the vics have 250 hp stock and 260 feet lb of torque stock they both aint that powerful stock dn they sure as hell aint powerful when the police dont use em any more.

    If you run 13.8 on a 150 shot you must be running low 15,s N/A

  • @ss101504 In 2003, I had a 1991 Caprice with the 5.7L. It's NOTHING special in those years. Just had 195 HP. My dad's 4.6 would kick the Caprice's butt. The dual exhaust 4.6 was 210 HP. Doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure it out. However, my 1995 Impala utterly destroys his 2005 P71 (250 HP for P71's in that year). I'm happy with my caprices!

  • I had a 95 9C1 w/LT1& G80 posi. Only mods I did was homemade cai, catback, and a mailorder pcm tune by pcm for less. I never tested the quarter mile but always tested the 0-60. Completely stock, car never did better than 7.3 sec. After mods car was consistant w/ 6.2 to 6.5 sec. 0-60. I know there are a lot of keyboard cowboys out there making stupid claims, but I honestly raced my bros '92 SHO 5spd & put almost 3 car lenths on him by the end of a long on ramp. I don't think a Vic could do that.

  • @p71c1 i own a 93 305 ci caprice. and i have to agree with everything u have said after running a few crown vics and grand marquis'. having a v8 in the 90's that can rev to 7k rpm is a real advantage against a car like mine that wants to stop at 5500. and with twice the valves, those 4.6s can seem bigger than they are. i can outrun a similar year crown vic and grand marquis, but these newer ones are quick. ppl forget its the same motor as a mustang gt. and we "B body" owners can't beat that

  • these early 9c1's were not fast at all i had the same car! i have a 03 cadillac dts(300hp northstar) and i dont think people know how strong and fast this car is. i have beat a 95 9c1 caprice with cold air intake and another that was stock. lost by less than a fender to a turbo integra type r and beat a 1977 trans am 6.6 by a car with my friends in my car to witness it. i have also had it up to 135 mph with more to go. speedo says 155mph! lol

  • The 5.4 is 200 lbs heavier but has lot more torque that the 4.6 could ever dream to offer.The 03/04 Mercury Marauder had the cobra engine 4.6 32v rated at 302hp and 320 lb tq.While my engine is still short of 50 hp I still can beat it on the 1/4 MILE because the marauder dosent shine under 4000 rpms.Heavy cars need torqy engine.... as I always say no replacement for displacement 5.4 for the win

  • wow, when i ran from a crown vic interceptor in my STOCK BUICK ROADMASTER LT1 with 2.56 gears, he didnt even have a chance ...with those gears in my car it still does 0-60 in less than 7 seconds and a 9c1 has 3.08 gears.....but of course you are probably one of those guys that thinks the "interceptor" has a different engine than a stock crown vic....it doesnt...only suspension and gears on a p71 dood

  • My 04 vic run 15.2 in stock trim and ss used to run high 14's stock too . as you could see even if the driver would have made a good start the vic is still pulling away.

    my car do not have the 5.4 engine yet but next year yes so i'll be able to take care of the lt1 without much trouble

  • Frankly, I like both the LT1 Caprice/Impala SS and the CVPI. I prefer the CVPI as an everyday utility driver but take the Impala on the highway in July.

  • i drive a crown vic everyday at work and they dont touch the old impala... they dont grip like the impalas, nor do they take off like one and unless your in nevada where you need to do 150mph the crown vics top end is useless

  • they redesing the whole suspension and front crossmember.The handling is by far the best of all cv made. 03+ got knock sensor and 04 got revised maf so the timming is more aggressive. The 04 model are considered as factory freaks

  • I own a 1996 Chevrolet Caprice 9C1 Lt1 made custom for a sheriff in Texas with goodyear V rated tires. I also own a 1999 Crown Vic ex un-marked state car. The Chev destroys the ford in all performance aspects. Also, I feel much safer crusing at 100 mph in my chev than the ford. the ford lifts, and is much rougher a ride. Regards

  • sorry to say that but your 99 vic is a real piece of crap not because it cant handle your caprice but beacuse they were the worst years of the vic...no power at all ,shitty handling even the interior sucks compare to your caprice.Your caprice is by far better than your 99 but if you would try 04 model you would not be as disapointed as you are with the 99.

    Sure it cant be as fast as the lt1 but wont be that far away .

  • I agree that the newer vic would win , even if this car really did have the tbi 350 , The MSP 2009 police cars results have the CV w/3.55 axle at 0-30 3.17 ( 92 caprice 9c1 tbi 350 3.42 axle 0-30 3.13 ) CV 0-50 6.64 ( caprice 6.57 )  CV 0-60 8.79 ( caprice 8.92 ) CV 0 to 100 23.7 ( caprice 25.8 ) so it would be pretty close .... The caprices strong points , are the 300 ft lbs of torque on the low end .

Its def. a 91 caprice because that was the only year it was black around all the side glass , in 92 it was body color , not to mention in 91 you could'nt get the 350 in a civilian car , which I am sure this is ( look at the aluminum wheels ), you could'nt get a 350 in a civilian caprice until 93 on the LTZ , and those had the open rear wheel wells , and according to motor trend , it ran 0 to 60 in 8.5 and quarter mile in 16.6 ,

    i have other car who can beat all this.. a mercedes benz S600 v12 engine...

    is a shot ! ... it run 0-60 in 5,9 ..

    i think im i a discuss about cars.. not a competition .. when who wins is who have the faster car...

  • I had a roadmaster with the lt1 in it and dual exhaust and My 190hp Grand marquis is noticibly quicker even though the roadmaster had 260 hp.

  • we have to admit that the roadmaster must be few hundreds pounds heavier too

  • I cant say that im going to look it up but a few hundred pounds wouldnt make up the difference of 70 or 80 hp.
