I think that they should replace the Beretta, just due to stopping power, with the XDm. Then the soldiers can choose whatever caliber they want, it's a reliable polymer frame pistol, and it's made in America. Everyone wins
I am not a big fan of Glock only because I feel if one buys a 40cal, they should be able to fire any 40cal. As we know Glock can not fire lead therefore not good for Mil. They need to know that their weapon can fire any ammo that is offered of availble to them. I own a Glock 35T/40 and a old Beretta 92F, the 92F is over 30 years old with way over 50K rds without A PROblem, not even a spring. I am going to buy a gen4 glock only to give them another chance, BUT ????? So for now Still Beretta
@shigeyuki9 actually the beretta 98 shoots a 9x21 round and the beretta 99 shoots a 7.65 mm cartridge. I was clearly stating that a 45.acp chambering would be nice. Might want to check your info?
one the m9 has a thumb safety a must for ALL MILITARY weapons the glock doesnt second the standerd 9mm luger round is cheap and effective close and at a distance. My stance as a troop down range i say yes it should be replaced. I would say a large caliber like 40 or 357 would work but by what i have no prefence. Im a soilder i do as im told so i really dont care by what as long as it works and puts rounds on target.
I'd say full sized 9, 40, or 45 for gloved hands. I personally hate how the M9 has a slide mounted safety, if it had a safety it should be mounted just about the frame next to the thumb.
M9 DONT THINK THE GLOCK WOULD FAIR GOOD IN A WARTIME ENVIORMENT AKA SAND THERE TOUGH BUT I THINK THE M9 IS TOUGHER AND MORE REALIABLE TRIED AND TRUE I KNOW I CARRIED ONE IN IRAQ FOR ALITTLE WHILE AS MY CHIEFS DRIVER . M9 WAS ALWASY SOLID AND READY
No even though I love Glocks. The M9 is a good weapon. Perhaps with the proper training it could be done. I don't see it happening any time soon if ever. They should go Sig p226 chambereed in 9mm.,
I think if the g18 was standard issue to every soldier, our military would be bad ass. If 1 9mm job cant get the job done, then the remaining 32 rounds should. But then again 2 45.acp shots to the chest and one to the head from a g21sf should end most engagements. I wonder how much it would cost to change to all g18's. Also could the average soldier control the g18 or would they just spray up the place and waste ammo with a select fire pistol?
Probably so. I would think the glock 17. I chose 9mm because in the type of environment that it would be used in; more round are always better. 9mm is light and just as effective as any other round.
now this is slightly biased cause i dont think we soulda ditched the 1911 in the first place but i think a glock would be the better choice. they feel a lot more user-friendly (at least to me they do). The 9mm has limited stopping power too, glocks can be chambered in the .40 or even .45 without significantly lowering the mag capacity. The m9's open slide loves dirt. The glocks standard sights are easier to use than the m9s. so id go with the glock. but still.. i wish we'd go back to the 1911 :/
Not sure how an XD or XDm in .45 would hold up in war but in civilian use, 13 rds of .45 is a real comfort to me and my family. Otherwise, the 1911 is the manstopper, too many guys have said the M9 just doesn't make it.
I say s&w m&p 45. That way we support an american manufacturer and keep jobs. The only improvement it would needs is a capacity upgrade to at least 14 IMO. If not that then the FNP 45 Tactical!!!
I told you Zboy. It is clear. The people prefer 1911 .45 ACP It takes 15 rounds from Beretta when we can get the job done with 8. It is such a man's caliber don't you think. .45ACP FTW!!!
yes, glock 18 9mm luger or glock 21 45. acp. Problem with 45. is that ammo load out would be heavier and also 45. is not a nato cartridge. I saw in a buyers guide that the glock 21 is dubbed "americas glock" by the manufacturer in an effort to pitch the sale. The glock 21 sf was designed for military in mind but glock's design of the ambidextrous mag release sucks.
1911 in .45 ACP BUT if there was to be a glock in the military it should be none other than the 10mm.. and the REMFs who are too small to shoot it can get the beretta!
a sig would be an improvement over the beretta, but a 1911 is probly the best choice. im truely not interested in carrying a plastic gun into a fight.
No way. I guess FN is the leading contract for replacing it, but I think the U.S. should only use established American companies. That is out the window because of the lowest bidder rule, but it just doesn't make sense to me.
I never liked it when they went with Beretta. Remember the whole point of going 9mm was to be in line with our allies during the Cold War. The 1911A1 proved to be a reliable sidearm for many years. They could have just converted the 1911A1s to 9mm it would have been cheaper. If they have to change sidearms then either Colt, S&W, or Remington. They will probably stay 9mm because of our allies.
Absolutely for the Glock. Caliber well, although I prefer the 40 over the 9. I believe we may be handcuff to using the 9mm. So, My choice is Glock 19.
not that i think the glock isnt reliable or high quality i dont think it could pass the trials because they compleatly disassemble the weapon hundreds of times i the constant removal of all the metal parts from the plastic parts would cause undue wear on the plastic parts and fail the pistol.
Yes, Glock 22. A nice medium between the .45 and 9mm calibers, I think the .40 S&W would be the perfect choice. A .45 caliber pistol really isn't necessary, it's not the size of the bullet that makes it affective, it's the shot placement...
yes. easy to replace parts, one of the most proven designs. AND it comes in multiple calibers. I hope Glock(if the US adopts them)Lets us manufacture them, or opens up a factory here in the states. they can also go back to the gold ole .45 without the round limitation. or stick with 9mm and get 19 round mags.
