I remember the impact that the original series of "V" had on the world when it first came out.I doubt that people will even remember the remake in 27 years time.I am not saying that OLD things are better,i am saying that the NEW things have a lot to live up to.Take the new Stargate series.I watched the first episode with my family red faced due to the pointless sex scene during the first 15 mins.I stand by my original comment.

obviously all of you are too young to remember this show when it aired back in 1984 and the impact that it had on the country as a whole. nobody had ever seen anything like that and it was major news back then. and it was just a mini series then. and by the way if you go watch the original series, the "V" stood for victory when the resistance scored their first victory against the aliens. it was their battle cry. i don't know where all this reference to WWII came from. but it looks good.

You do realize that the original was an allegory of the French resistance of WWII? It was made because the creators wanted to capture the drama of that time and put it in a contemporary American setting. The original was packed full of WWII references like the broken swastika of the visitors, the visitor hitler-jugen, the jewish treatment of intellectuals, and the use of "V" spray-painted over visitor propaganda. ...and it was V for visitor up until the Holocaust survivor made one for victory.

It was the same for U.K as well.when the miniseries was aired on ITV the BBC nearly had to shutdown due to lack of viewers between the hours that V was shown.The whole country was captivated.

"V" comes from WW2. in the show Daniel's grandad, Abe, who is a holocaust surviver, sees kids trying to deface a visitors poster. He shows them the V for victory symbol, and tells them it was used against Hitler. The whole show made a lot of analogy to WW2. Like the scientist being persecuted and disappearing or anyone who criticized the visitors. If you watched the show you would know that. The graffiti came long before the resistance had a victory.

I agree, the more stories the better, to give us audiences more choice on the menu - so good luck to Kenneth Johnson, and good luck to Glenn Larson on his movie remake of BSG.

However, one does not have to discuss themes around fascism only within the context of WW2 or a parody of it. They seem to be going out of their way to give a unique style and look to this remake, so that it's not a pure re-hash of the original.

We're not going to see the same red uniforms, or the swastika logo, or the jackboots. We may not even get to see the hybrid baby thing, either. I didn't mind the hybrid baby in the original, except for the overly deus ex machina of her growing very quickly, and her magical powers which halted the thermonuclear destruct system.

A revision is fine, but the very name "V" never meant a reference to the visitors, but to human Victory. There is absolutely no reason that should have changed, despite a new flavor to the show. I think that should, by intent, be kept sacrosanct.

They don't want to retread the WW2-resistance theme as before. They're going to put a new spin on it that covers similar issues, just not as a carbon-copy of the original.

No one's saying that it has to be the WWII allegory... Nor does it have to mirror the original exactly. But the "V" title should still reflect the original definition as "Victory", which I am sure the human resistance will be seeking. "V" referring to the visitors themselves is a bastardization of the authentic "V" terminology. New premise to the plot and a new look, fine. "V" as a title should be sacrosanct. The writer should have been more considerate, in my humble opinion.

You are passing too many judgements just from seeing a trailer. Clearly, even in the original show, the name "Visitor" starting with V wasn't a mere coincidence. Obviously there was a double entendre intended, whereby "V for Victory" later asserted itself as the WW2 resistance allegory became more pronounced. Likewise, that could similarly happen in the new series.

My biggest gripe is that the visitors self-ascribe their title as visitors, that the letter "V" stands for visitors when it stood for "victory" in the original series, that people call them "V's" in this show, and that graffitti of the letter "V" is not a protest of the visitors, but a support of the visitors. You'd think that the writer(s) didn't see the original.

No, obviously they saw the original. What's also obvious is that this remake is not a straight WW2 sendup that the original was ("V for Victory" being a WW2 slogan). So we're not going to see the same in-your-face Nazi-style propaganda, such as the posters of "Visitors Are Your Friends", or the alien logo resembling the swastika. They're going to take a more sophisticated approach this time.

But that's what drove the original series... There's no reason that the original meaning of the letter "V" couldn't be incorporated into this series. After all, that's what "V" was all about. This series is a shadow of the intent "V" entailed. It looks good and much is to be commended, but as a die-hard fan of the original... This is my only reservation.

Furthermore, Kenneth Johnson, to whom "V" is credited--but has no role in this new vision of the name--is still planning a remake of the original plot in a major motion picture, followed by a sequal. I can't wait and hope that project gets off the ground.
