Again, it is just amazing the sense of adventure you get from hearing this song. Personally, I prefer the NES rendering, or even the first run through from this selection, over the symphonic version that comes next. It's perfect in much the same way as, say, Zelda I's overworld theme. Just makes me want to stomp a few liquid metals.
@pastromthor Yes, you really do get quite the sense of adventure from this world map theme. I actually much prefer the SNES version myself because of the lowered scale from the A scale to the G# scale, it somehow makes it sound that much better. Plus, the kick-ass boss battle theme from said version found it's way into Dragon Quest IX.
What a perfect adventure theme! Just feels like your traveling all over the world, ready to save and protect the innocent and questing to defeat the evil that threatens peace. Such a good theme, no wonder why they kept it for the Dragon Warrior Monster series as well as others. :-)
I would love to see a Dragon Quest Trilogy of 1, 2 and 3 all on the same cartridge or UMD, even if they were just straight up ports of the SNES versions, I'd snap that up in a heartbeat.
Hell, if they added animations to the monsters in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II, that'd be more than enough reason for me to snap a copy of the game up.
BTW, I love this version of the song, it seems alot of the songs sound better on the SNES as opposed to the original NES version.
It definitely did, and the boss battle theme just kicks massive amounts of ass too, definitely adds a state of tension to the battles for sure.
But yeah, the overworld theme just sounds fantastic on the SNES version. I like that it's scale was toned down from the A scale to the G scale, somehow it made the music sound better.
Final Fantasy keeps getting remakes on the GBA/DS/PSP and those systems, but Dragon Quest barely gets any besides GBC.
I geuss that Squre Enix noticed that DQ isn't very popular in America. But for those outside of Japan who play DQ, it's good that you've found these hidden gems.
u can't make dragon quest 3 better by remaking it, that game was perfect, every remake of it has fallen short of the original, some things r better left untouched
the DQ4 and DQ5 DS remakes did the originals great justice in my opinion and were infinitely better. the minor tweaks and beautiful graphical overhaul made those games two of the greatest RPG's ever... in the modern age at least. Think aobut if the imaginative grandeur of DQ3 was brought into full 3D, it would be amazing and Toriyama's art could be fully realized and the game would be accesible to today's audience. The SNES remake was great but they need to remake this game for the DS. Now.
what you say is true... but...i actually prefer the nes level graphics, for me at least, it adds to my own imaginative input because i have to fill in the blanks myself, and in doing so, i can make each character in my party appear as i want them to appear... do you see where i'm coming from? i can name my members after people i know, and just like that, they are transported into the game, but if it's fully rendered on the screen, i'm just another driver of the same vehicle...
Agreed, this is the best overworld music ever. The only 2 that compare are the one in Golden Sun 2 after Isaac and the others join your quest and the overworld music from DQ II before the princess joins your team.
Damn straight. This was the first Dragon Quest game I found to be good. The first was mediocre and artificially lengthened, and the second was OK, but felt incomplete. This game had it all. Then again, not surprised by the overworld theme, given how all the games in the series pretty much have great overworld themes.
OMG!!! This one should be on every list... if THIS is making #20, can't wait till #1. Didn't know some DQ music was composed by Uematsu, tho.... Neither that DQ III is available for DS....
The best Dragon Quest Overworld except for 8.
