  • The best Dragon Quest Overworld except for 8.

  • Loto!!

  • I think my feet just started marching on their own.

  • As a musician myself I can definitely say that this a masterpiece.

  • This game has awesome music. The battle theme one of my favorites of any game.

  • SNES remake is so great, just started playing it a week ago. Same charm, better look, better sound (ie - this great music).

  • I have and love this game. The Crystal Tower is awesome.

  • easily my favorite game of all time for the GBC

  • I don't think any kind of music could encompass the feeling of a sad and perilous journey as well as this. <3 DQ

  • @CrouchingCrab Your right, this theme has an extremely strong King Arthur-like atmosphere.

  • dragon quest anime intro

  • the 8 bit gameboy color version sounds best i must admit :(

    *nostalgia*

  • poor aspect ratio

  • アス比が残念だw

  • legend

  • my second favourite Dragon Quest! (I love 5, but 3 is amazing too)

  • Again, it is just amazing the sense of adventure you get from hearing this song. Personally, I prefer the NES rendering, or even the first run through from this selection, over the symphonic version that comes next. It's perfect in much the same way as, say, Zelda I's overworld theme. Just makes me want to stomp a few liquid metals.

  • @pastromthor Yes, you really do get quite the sense of adventure from this world map theme. I actually much prefer the SNES version myself because of the lowered scale from the A scale to the G# scale, it somehow makes it sound that much better. Plus, the kick-ass boss battle theme from said version found it's way into Dragon Quest IX.

  • What a perfect adventure theme! Just feels like your traveling all over the world, ready to save and protect the innocent and questing to defeat the evil that threatens peace. Such a good theme, no wonder why they kept it for the Dragon Warrior Monster series as well as others. :-)

  • This sound can be here in the animated series.

I always loved that song and didn' even know it came from DQIII!

  • dragon quest music, all of it, rocks!

  • I would like to see this game remade, maybe even in the style of Dragon Quest VIII. Hearing this song in that quality would be great!

  • an epic song

  • hey does anyone notice that the martial artist wears the same clothes Yamcha did

  • So beautiful :')

  • pero por favor sugiyama es el mejor

  • Epic marching music is epic. :D

  • I would love to see a Dragon Quest Trilogy of 1, 2 and 3 all on the same cartridge or UMD, even if they were just straight up ports of the SNES versions, I'd snap that up in a heartbeat.

Hell, if they added animations to the monsters in Dragon Quest and Dragon Quest II, that'd be more than enough reason for me to snap a copy of the game up.

BTW, I love this version of the song, it seems alot of the songs sound better on the SNES as opposed to the original NES version.

  • I agree, the main battle theme also got an upgrade of awesomeness.

  • It definitely did, and the boss battle theme just kicks massive amounts of ass too, definitely adds a state of tension to the battles for sure.

But yeah, the overworld theme just sounds fantastic on the SNES version. I like that it's scale was toned down from the A scale to the G scale, somehow it made the music sound better.

  • Gohan what are you doing in this game?

  • I FELL THROUGH THE ROOF BRO

    FUCK

  • lol

  • The song´s name is "Dai, You are a Hero!

  • Final Fantasy keeps getting remakes on the GBA/DS/PSP and those systems, but Dragon Quest barely gets any besides GBC.

I geuss that Squre Enix noticed that DQ isn't very popular in America. But for those outside of Japan who play DQ, it's good that you've found these hidden gems.

  • please original sound.

  • Should Have been in the top ten IMO

  • Epic. Nuff said.

  • I LOVE IT just like Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken

  • I would love to see this Dragon Quest get remade, it's one of my favorite ones to this day still.

  • Do you have the NES/Famicom version of this music?

  • ¿Esta misma música no salía en los resúmenes de "Las Aventuras de Fly"?

  • it seems so :o im not sure

  • ai es pero esa serie está basado en el juego por eso tiene el mismo soundtrack

  • si, tambien el nombre se lama Dragon Quest Dai no Daiboken en el episodio y la manga. Pero el manga es mejor porque las aventura continua.

  • I'm glad Enix is still pumping out DQ games after the merge with square.

None of them will ever meet up to the standard of 3 though.

  • Comment removed

  • Some of this soundtrack was used for the Dragon quest: Dai no Daibouken anime series...

  • Square-Awesome company

    Enix-The best company

    Square Enix- Absolute Bull shit

The main character in this game is the absolute coolest.

  • I love this game soooooooooo much!!! The best is that its long so you won't get bored with it for a while!!!

  • yeah this map theme rules!!!!

  • Truly brilliant.

  • i love this game with all my heart

tooooooooooooooooook so long to beat it

    but it IS epic

  • #1 - This is the best overworld music ever!

  • This and the original FF were the first JRPGs that I ever played and yeah this overworld music was great for it's time...

  • So nostalgic. This was my first rpg ever, I still play it :D

  • The martial artist in this game is what got me started on the whole concept of doing martial arts.

Square enix before they joined and became squarenix made some great games.

  • This is by far the most popular map theme in Japan.

  • I believe that Dragon Quest III should be remade again. I do not like the DS, so instead I chose PSP.

  • Agreed so much. I don't care what system the remake would be on.

  • u can't make dragon quest 3 better by remaking it, that game was perfect, every remake of it has fallen short of the original, some things r better left untouched

  • I'd like to play it on my DS though. Actually 1 and 2 also.

  • the DQ4 and DQ5 DS remakes did the originals great justice in my opinion and were infinitely better. the minor tweaks and beautiful graphical overhaul made those games two of the greatest RPG's ever... in the modern age at least. Think aobut if the imaginative grandeur of DQ3 was brought into full 3D, it would be amazing and Toriyama's art could be fully realized and the game would be accesible to today's audience. The SNES remake was great but they need to remake this game for the DS. Now.

  • what you say is true... but...i actually prefer the nes level graphics, for me at least, it adds to my own imaginative input because i have to fill in the blanks myself, and in doing so, i can make each character in my party appear as i want them to appear... do you see where i'm coming from? i can name my members after people i know, and just like that, they are transported into the game, but if it's fully rendered on the screen, i'm just another driver of the same vehicle...

  • kinda like reading a book lets you see the charectors however you want and in a movie they have to look like that, right?

  • right on bro! that's it exactly :)

  • Agreed, this is the best overworld music ever. The only 2 that compare are the one in Golden Sun 2 after Isaac and the others join your quest and the overworld music from DQ II before the princess joins your team.

  • Nothing to say about this except - classic. Just like the rest of the game. What a game this was :)

  • Damn straight. This was the first Dragon Quest game I found to be good. The first was mediocre and artificially lengthened, and the second was OK, but felt incomplete. This game had it all. Then again, not surprised by the overworld theme, given how all the games in the series pretty much have great overworld themes.

  • Well yeah, considering it's on the SNES, versus the gameboy color...

  • hearing this kickass music makes me wish i could dance without looking like a total idiot.

  • @nihilvox all dancing is cheesy as hell

  • great theme for a great game

  • Great choice! one of the best themes for one of the best games!

  • This must be the SNES version of the song ;)

  • Yeah I Love this Song the Symphonic version is really good Thank you Koichi Sugiyama

  • OMG!!! This one should be on every list... if THIS is making #20, can't wait till #1. Didn't know some DQ music was composed by Uematsu, tho.... Neither that DQ III is available for DS....

  • That was an error, the composer is sugiyama and this one is the snes version

  • Ah, I see... xD However, there IS a DQ IV for DS
