the name kiwi from the kiwi bird is maori. it was named that cos kiwi's make that sort of a sound. us, people, are named after the bird. i think.. and the fruit aren't actually from nz but china, even though most of it's now produced here, and they used to be called the "chinese gooseberry". not sure why it's called a kiwi though. maybe coincidence. maybe they also make strange sounds.
