I have one and I did choose it over a Vette. The Vette felt very solid but the warranty was not as good and is ugly on the inside. The M Roadster was the only car I drove that put a smile on my face when I drove it, every time!

I test drove a Vette, SLK 55 AMG (beautiful but my last one SLK 32 AMG was in the shop all of the time and mercedes would not let me out of the lease or let me have another car so fuck them! So I got a BMW), Boxster was nice but no real thrill.

I have just bought one last week.. What a hoot of a car.

I had the 3.0l Z4 and the two cars are a world apart even if you were to take out the M engine. Thumbs up from me...

no doubt the gear stick broke...if im not wrong i think the Z4 is made in the Usa...don't get me wrong though....i luv american muscle cars!!its just that tey don'nt make the cars properly:(

It doesn't matter where it was made; it's still the same tooling and the same parts.

That said, the gear knob on all BMWs is friction mounted. You simply stick it on and push down on it ... that isn't the first time someone has pulled one off. I've done it a few times myself.

Corvette's are big bang for the buck. Excellent powertrain. The problem is, you have to sit inside the car while driving it and GM has incredibly horrifying interiors. Inside the Vette, seems like you're sitting in a 97' Cavalier.

I would take the MZ4 over a regulkar Vette straight up. I would actually take a Z06 over a MZ4 though.

I have owned a MZ3 and currently the Z4 3.0 sport. Both are great, but not super-car great.

see guys u seem to aim at beating people at the traffic lights which sounds stupid and doesnt reveal at whose faster, join track days than compare whatever u want.I have a z4m and dont complain despite i'd do change a couple of things,vettes r good too considering the price,none can say otherwise...its just a matter of finding the right car for yourself that suits ya style mine does it.with mine i lapped willow spring big track in 1 38 957 with stock tires and for me its a quite an achievement

The gearshift actually broke off that brand new Z4M. That's not a sign of good build quality and after two and a half years and 22,000 miles my vette's been flawless.

I am sure thats true. I have owned a vette and many BMW's all of them M models, they are extremely well built, don't forget that the one in this video was one of the first off the production line. The vettes are ok, but they are not up to the same standard of build quality, and they certainly don't handle as well.

These British car guys always trash the Corvette and they would have made a HUGE deal out of it if that had happened on a 'vette. The C6 version of the Corvette is underrated and I think brand name stereotypes bias these reviews.

Hey i know you posted this ages ago but had to say something! Both Top Gear and 5th Gear raved about the C6 on their shows and in the TG mag! However they did say it didn't cope with British roads so well (bumpy and winding!) but that's hardly trashing it :)

5th Gear compared it favorably to the Viper. Top Gear belittled the C6 and whined on and on about a "plastic interior." Then they drag raced a BASE C6 with cars four times the price. Drag race it with the Z4M and find out what happens.

Top Gear did complain about the plastic interior. That seems fair enough as it has a plasticy interior! They then drag race against 3 cars. The TVR costs the same as the corvette, the NSX and 911 cost 33% more (not 4 times the price then!) It finishes with Hammond saying how well the Vette handles, how good the engine sounds, calling it 'quite an athlete' and saying it's 'really really big fun!'

The base C6 is faster than all three of those cars. It's proven in the records of the leading car mags. Hammond drove slowly, as a base 911 gets destroyed in a drag race with the base C6. I beat them on the highway and between the lights all the time in MY base C6.

I've also beaten the NSX in drag races and from a rolling start on the highway. There are no TVRs on the roads here in the U.S. so I guess it's possible that they're faster than 'vettes but I doubt it.

By the way, if you check the interiors of the other cars you'll see they're all wrapped in padded stitched leather and far more luxurious than the plastic used in the Vette. I don't think anyone could complain about that criticism?

The only real plastic in the C6 interior is in the center console area and it's very appropriate for a sports car and not at all tacky. The TVR is considerably more plasticy as I understand and I don't see why an interior has to be leather.

Next you'll probably complain about the Corvette exterior being plastic. Well it's fiberglass which is a derivative of plastic but is stronger than you might think and highly scratch resistant.

Calm down! I wasn't the one complaining, just pointing out that Top Gear was far less harsh on the C6 than you were saying! The TVR isn't the slightest but plastic by the way, just check out the classifieds on Pistonheads. The drag race was probably unfair as it depends on the driver so you have a point there. The TVR can hit 60 in 4.4, the 911 not far off and I've seen figures that suggest the Vette is at least as quick!

Oops! i meant the TVR isn't the slightest 'BIT' plastic! At least in the interior. It does have a reputation for poor build quality though. I don't know if that's still true today but certainly older models were considered unreliable. The interior doesn't have to be leather..

...but in Europe we're used to GT sports cars having a more luxury feel and he complained that the quality of the plastic is poor. It probably doesn't help that we're expected to pay 25% more than the US. But personally I'd love one!

I'm basing it on personal experience kiddo. No sportscar has beaten me from a rolling start on the highway. I've beaten Boxsters and 911s left and right and as soon as I see a Z4M I'll beat that too.

Right, because that is what Boxters and 911s are made for. They're not designed for drag racing, they're designed to handle well. And besides, are you sure that you're not winning because the other drivers are a little nervous about racing on public roads?

ClimbSpec it doesn't matter if it's a drag race or on the back roads the C6 Corvette is faster. Just look at the combination of 0-60 times and lateral g around the skidpad. Plus as I've mentioned a million times the lap times are faster in the Corvette around the track. If you want to tell me the Mercedes SLR McLaren is better in every conceivable way to the Corvette I'll agree with you because I drove it and it is but you can take your Z4M and shove it up your ass.

I HATE american cars but I do admit that corvete is damn fast!7:42 Nurburgring is FAST but have in mind that bmw m3 csl do 7:50 with 140ks less and has 3.2l engine so...And please dont make bmw angry,see what hapened last time they buil sport car with Mclaren : )

Very true vatrajski and I'd like to see any of BMW's "ultimate driving machines" up against the Mercedes SLR McLaren. The BMW would be soundly defeated in every conceivable dimension.

Touting supercars is one thing living in reality and driving a quality car is entirely different.

I have had Two mercdes (3 if you count a ML for 3 weeks) and they my AMG Service record was taller than I am twice...and I'm 5'11

My BMW has had only a couple of issues and none of them dangerous which the SLK 32 AMG did. I love the way Mercedes look but not their quality
