Allen wrote this song in tribute to Judy Garland, with whom he and his band had toured in Australia. I saw him sing it in New York in the summer of 1977. Elvis had just died, and Peter dedicated the song to him. I was thinking of that last night when news came of Whitney Houston's death. Quiet Please: give her one last celebration.
Before we were married my wife and I "accidently" found Peter Allen doing a show in Melbourne , from memory the show/tour was called "Up in One" way back in 1981 or so. What a knockout show!! We've been to many concerts and shows over the years and Peter Allen ranks up there as arguably the best entertainer we have ever had the pleasure to see. I cant think of anyone who matches this mans' talent and pure entertainment capacity, apart maybe from Tim Minchin.
