i have a couple points to make:
1) what if the earth is destroyed what will happen to the pod.
2) building an indestrutable pod is a waste of money if there is no earth you would just be a hard to get in can of sardines.
3) maybe the mayans couldnt be bothered to put more years on the calender ( who would want a calender that long anyways its a waste of space). if the world the world ended but the earth didnt get destroyed the only food you would have is the 3 other ppl in the pod.

3- I believe that the mayan calenda does not end as such, the wheel finishes then starts again. A year cycle.
Rationing would increase the amount of food you had- if two people rationing then 40 days would turn on at least 100. Besides if you not moving around you do not need so much food.
