Although I am not positive that Hendrix used standard guitar tuning every time he played this song, standard guitar tuning is E A D G B E. Thus, the Ebm begins on the 6th fret of the A string. It does not require tuning between songs.

Playing the song in Ebm in is not only more true to the artist's intentions (particularly of mood and color) but it places the add9 chord (third chord after the chromatic descent) as an open Eadd9 which resonates so beautifully.
