If it were in Canada, the basic Pontiac model was the StratoChief, this was the car of choice for racing. The mid line model was the Laurentian and the top of the line was the Parisienne. Built on the same chassis as the impala, all Canadian built Pontiac's were chevrolet powered, by your choice of a 6 cyl, 283, 327 or 409 in either 3 spd, 4 spd or automatic, with the exception of the 400/425 horse 409 only being available as a 4 spd. Cool Huh!!
1963 Pontiac Tempest Lemans 421 Super Duty, "Running Bear", ran 1/4 mile in 11.89 seconds @ 123.28 MPH, September 1963, the Prototype for the upcoming new/ first Muscle Car; Pontiac GTO, ( Pontiac Engineers/Knafel Pontiac ).
everybody now seems to forget about the tires that they were running on. in 1963 traction was virtually non existent if you watch them run some of them are still smoking the tires as they roll through the lites at the end of the quarter. to be really fair comparing the times from 63' consider that a simple tire change with todays tires would probably knock 2 to 3 seconds off their e.t.'s.
