yow! >.< I didn't even know there were for-profit prisons in the states! Since moving to europe, I've learnt that the rehab programs in the prisons in the country where I live see far fewer reincarcerations, and even though the prison sentances are much shorter, they're more effective.

@MrShizz77 Even if this was the case, and we have no reason to think it is the case, they are drafting legislation and making laws that make it easier for cops to arrest people and throw them in jail to make a buck. Incarceration rates in the U.S have quadrupled since 1970, but do you really think the crime rate has followed that trend? Hardly. If anything, based on the population alone incarceration rates should have gone up by only 50% not 400%. Private prisons are bad mkay?

@crackerkiller89 I understand all that, but that has nothing to do with my statement. I said that most private prisons treat the inmates better then state run facilities. Some jails and prisons are so old they are a hazard to the inmates safety and the guards, but the private prisons arenew and high tech and allow inmates more opportunities for education and job skills where as the states just through them overpacked cells and say see ya on your next stay.

So its a trade let the state make money and keep the return rate high or let them go to a private prison and get an education to better themselves and actually be able to contribute to society.
