he answered the question. He will enforce existing law. Why don't you try and negotiate with the FDA? I mean there's no reason that this plant needs to be legal and the last people in the world that could benefit from marijuana are the sick and dying if it's really beneficial they definitely don't need to have long ponytails. There is a drug called marinol, a pill that provides the thc and all the beneficial effects of marijuana. Aspirin comes from a willow tree but we don't smoke that tree.

I'm not saying Cannabis is completely benign or for children (unless authorized by a doctor) but if it wasn't a relatively safe and effective medication do you think The American College of Physicians, 124,000 strong, would release a position paper endorsing medical marijuana in Feb 08.

That organization has a total membership of 124,000. Only a handful of those (the writer, the public policy committee, and the board of regents) were involved with that position paper, with no evidence (poll, etc) suggesting the remaining membership supports that position.

And his state of Arizona, where I live, voted for a proposition that would give doctors the ability to prescribe ANY DRUG medicinally,not just marijuana. The legislature tried to change it with the assumption that the voters didn't know what they were voting for. Then we fought to make sure that voter passed props could not be touched after the People Have Spoken.Check out how well Prop 203 did in AZ in 2002. He doesn't represent his own state's wishes or the majority of Americans.
