@jamilaaa18 you need to open your editor as admin. For example, if you use notepad, go to Start, type in 'Notepad', right click on its icon and choose "Run as Administrator". Once you have it opened, navigate to the host file and edit it, it should work.

My 3GS with 4.2.1 6.15 is stuck in DFU mode and tried your method and it didnt work for me. First of when i try to restore with the original firmware it doesnt power up with the itunes logo and usb cable on the screen, it just stays black. then i still continue on working on it with redsn0w to pwn DFU and restore custom with itunes. Then itunes will tell me everything is ok and wait for reboot but i am still stuck in black screen. Any ideas? I need help so bad Thanks

Watched a few vids to fix my bricked jail broken-unlocked 3gs 4.3, 6.15.00, after a week of trying, I gave up. I re-installed XP for other issues and tried the 3gs again and itunes said put a sim card in and my iphone was activate!!! I'm still on baseband 6.15.00, but I now I am on ios 4.3.1. The gps is working better, instead of being of by 10 miles, its of by 50ft. Not quite sure how i did this, but thank you everyone on youtube for their videos. No longer jailbroken, but all is good.
