This is real clogging. Go to any clogging competition and this is what you'll see. Watch my Clogging Demo 2007 to see some other categories of competition clogging. There are many traditional categories as well as contemporary. This video is only a sample of contemporary clogging. So, before you tell us what real clogging is... this IS real clogging.

Great video! I bet some of those teams are directed by people I used to dance with. Someone wrote that this style dancing didn't come until 1993---but I danced with Chip Woodall and Scotty Bilz in the 80's and then with Clogging Express in the early 90's and we did that type of dance. I haven't really danced since highschool so it has been a long time....I really miss good clogging. It is so hard to find---anyone know any good teams in TX?

My group actually was the first to perform a non-traditional routine in 2003. We fought the board to bring other music into the program and we were the only group to actually do another song. We took first place! I just think it's more fun to dance to music more upbeat and faster, it makes it more of challenge!

In what regions of the world is clogging popular? That sounds snarky and sarcastic, but i don't mean it that way, at all. For example, I used to irish step dance, and I know that, in the US anyway, NYC, Chicago, and Boston are like the meccas of irish step (just a sample-sorry if i forgot someone's region). I want to know where, specifically, clogging is offered and takes place, and has its following.

Hey-- To my knowledge, clogging is somewhat more popular in the southern US, tho it's not limited to only that region. It was developed in the Appalachian mountains mostly by immigrants from the British Isles, although there is a heavy African influence, as well as some Native American steps. There are some good clogging history websites out there, as well.

I do more Appalacian and I think the big difference is we clogg! Are arms are basically on out hips at all times so it gives us more time to clogg! (And not do hip hop moves)

The big difference is that you do more traditional dances, whereas we use more contemporary music/dance moves/etc.

I personally like to watch traditional teams, but I prefer dancing with teams like this.
