I'm not sure who scored but I think it was Mal Esfandarinia. When I went to my grandparents that evening my grandad showed me a welsh version of final score called Wales On Saturday; which in those days was probably presented by people like Alan Wilkins and Nicky Piper. It showed highlights of a match between Conwy United and Caernarfon and also all the LOW results and table including Welshpool Town 2 - 1 Rhyl which I quietly cheered!

I was standing to the right of the stand and the guy next to me was listening to The Shrewsbury Score on the radio. The 2teams came out for the 2nd half and the first thing I noticed is that Welshpool played in Non-Replica Patrick Shirts. It was surprisingly entertaining probably because I had grown up with such obnoxious peers that I would never realise that a football game in Welshpool could be so enjoyable. It was 1-1 at 1/2 time and Welshpool scored the winner right at the end!

It all started during a presentation day at The Bowling Club either August/September 1996 following a very exciting time to be a football fanatic after Euro 96. I was sitting by the green as I was there because my grandparents played bowls and a ball was kicked high up in the air in the background. I told my grandad who told me it was The Football Club who had recently been promoted to The League Of Wales (instead of Oswestry) I came into The Maesydre when it was half-time.

Gareth Cadwallader had to step down as Welshpool Manager in the summer of 1997. Clive McNamee was named the new manager and Neil Salisbury was sold to Oswestry and was replaced by Russell Cadwallader. Top Goalscorers Damon Russell and Jason Yates were sold to Newtown and Welshpool were relegated after an appaling season!

I had a kick about after The Inter CableTel game which was the last game of the season. I scored and this other supporter joked "It's his 20th goal of the season!" In the summers of 1997 and 1998 BBC Wales televised the 2nd legs live of Barry Town European Cup Qualifiers against Dynamo Kiev. It was the first time I had seen players like Shevchenko and Rebrov; the latter year Darren ryan got sent off early on. They had bought Eifion Willians fron Caernarfon for a Welsh League Record Fee £25,000

The game against Porthmadog was going to have highlights on Wales On Saturday. Gareth Cadwallader was interviewed in front of the stand before kick off. A lot of the lads I was in school with were having a kick about behing the goal but when they scored they suddenly stoped and looked. I think the 3rd goal was when The Porthmadog player ran all the way round Neil Salisbury to score. as that was happening the skinny 14 year old lad sitting on the right hand bench of the stand was me

I tuned in the next day to find it was live on BBC Wales presented by John Hardy and Mark Aizlewood. Barry Town won 5-2 with 2 goals from Player/Manager Gary Barnett. I also went to games at the Maesydre against Ton Pentre, Flint Town, Newtown, Porthmadog and Inter CableTel. Me and Dad were at The Maesydre the day The Grand National was evacuated due to a bomb scare.

When I was watching it live at the beggining of 1997 it was only about 17 or 20 mintues into the game and somebody in Jenner Park suddenly shouted "Fucking Stevens" with match commentator Ian Gwyn Hughes saying how there was on unhappy or disatisfied supporter here today

At The Beggining Of 1997 I went to The Maesydre to see Welshpool VS Conwy United. I bumped into Neil, Duncan and Alan Pearce. I quickly learn't a lot of the members of The Welshpool Team like Neil Salisbury, Damon Russell, Mal Esfandarinia, Neil Price, Carwyn Arnold, Jason Yates and Phil Bates. I was talking to Alan Pearce and he told me that there was going to be a live game on the next day between Barry Town and Caernarfon at Jenner Park.
