oh how I loved this game! it's imprinted in my brain with it's awesome music, strangely cool circular gameplay and that big ship explosion you could hear all over the arcade!
Took the galaga idea turned it on it's head, konami made it their own, great job guys.. dose anyone know who made this game? back in the there was a person creating an arcade game, I would like to know who made this... and what other games were made by the same person...
Actually the idea of making the ''Galaga'' idea into a sort-of-3D shooter could have been inspired from Atari's ''Tempest'' arcade game, so the idea is not completely original but it is awesome and was a success.
i was a big fan of this game in the arcades when i were a kid.My highest score was just under 4.000.000.I got this score at the arcade in the fairground that comes to East End Park (Leeds) every 5th November (Bonfire night) it was around the year 1983 i got this score i were on the machine for a good few hours on a 10p piece (good days lol)
Favorite Arcade Game Ever. As for being difficult, depends on the settings. I played the game in many arcades and each had different difficulty settings. I now own this game, full size arcade machine. Still love to play. There was never a good home version, all were really bad or modified.
Nothing wrong with the quality of the video. I still think this is the best arcade game music I've ever heard. The game's pretty cool, but I used to play it for the music alone.
I loved playing this at the convenience store as a kid. Galaga gets all the pub now, but the fast pace of this game was just addicting. And the music and sound were awesome, of course.
Man this game was just tooooo easy. I had a blind friend that could get to earth and back twice on this! tho was always a handy game when down to your last quarter in the arcade and still had 4 hours to kill
This game was good, but waaaaay too easy. u had to be the 1st person in the arcade and on the machine to get a go as 10p would last even the most mediocre player half an hour or so, with the better players being on for literally hours
Wow! Memories. I used to turn this game over where it would quit counting after you've been thru all the planets.. It woke my wife up who was sleeping on the sofa when she heard the sounds. I used to drag her to the arcade when were teenagers. she'd get pissed cause the game never beat me and I stood there for hours to where I could go pee and come back and still had enough ships to keep playing!!!
im almost more then positive that none of you will believe me but back in the 80's my dad held the world record for this game and im pretty sure he still does.see my dad was able to go to the bathroom and let his lives waste away while he relieved himself. gives you a good idea right?
Does your dad go by the name of Michael Bangs, and did he set the record in 1987? If so, he's still the marathon record holder. I just looked it up on Twin Galaxies. The second place guy is not too far behind though, and his attempt was was just a few years back in 2004. Anyway, that's pretty cool. 20+ years on top is not easy to do, especially on a relatively famous game like this.
Not sure if you are still interested, but my brother is the Michael Bangs who set the record in 1987 in Waterbury, CT. And he has no children. He vowed to play 50 hours straight and the game broke at 48.
I kinda doubt anyone will see this post, but w/e. =P Does anyone know what the song is called that plays at the beginning of the game? I want to find some sheet music of it, it sounds incredibly cool when it's played well on the organ. ;)
well i saw ur post - here it is : The game's background music consists of portions of J. S. Bach's Toccata and Fugue in D minor, BWV 565, in a modern rock style. Gyruss was the first arcade game to use stereo sound. hope to have helped
This is a great upload. What program are using to capture? I'm assuming you're using mame here. I tried to capture mame on fraps, but it won't have it.
Nice job on getting the perfect in the chance stage, my best was 39 out of 40 ships destroyed. Best I can do so far is stage 14, with a score a little over 100,000.

It still blows me away how genius it was to put this music to this game. I remember it intensifying the gameplay so much! Great stuff.

The current record holder for Gyruss is Anthony Fodrizio, who amassed up to 41,090,450 points.

And for the record, Fodrizio is in second place. Michael Bangs still holds the record at over 47,000,000.
