I kinda felt bad for the horse, i mean, making a horse pull a carriage up a steep hill? O .o and i agree with thecostumer, thats probably what happend :]
I find it funny how many people think this horse reacted like that because it couldn't do its job. There was a harness malfunction and it spooked, simple as that. The bucking started :14 because of where part of the harness slipped. You tie anything around that area on a horse, a bull, or just about any other animal and it'll buck. (Fitting music when it's running though.)
Yes I know that. If it had been a draft horse it wouldnt have been so bad but this type of horse was not bred to pull heavy loads. This sort of horse should be doing jumping or dressage.
@no1horselover that is not a heavy load! and if a harness slid back on a draft horse it would have started bucking! just an fyi they do this kind of competition with miniature horses and ponies as well, the carraiges are designed to evenly distribute the weight.
He took flight because of the screeming shouting flapping crouds >=( Must have been terrified poor thing. I think everyone who goes to an equine event should be told, by banner advertisement, a front page in a Schedule or program, or by P.A .. what to do in these situations and how to act. Even if its just sit quietly, dont shout and jump around. It not as if things like this are uncommon, It would help alot 2 lessen the stress to the animal... thats the least they deserve.
Deep down they're still wild animals with flight instincts. In situations like these, they show it. I hope the horse didn't get bad memories from this but could just continue as a driving horse without re-training. If he was ''old in the job'' it shouldn't be a problem, much worse if he was new to pulling. That's why I hate when people use poor tack in the start since ''it's just training''. Of course this can happen anyway and I'm sure the tack was checked before. :)
Don't you love it when people who are ignorant of a sport comment, thinking a animal has to be abused to do anything. Oh look! A dog is chasing a Frisbee! They abuse that dog to get it to chase that Frisbee!
Good clip btw, good thing no one was seriously hurt.
All you negative people..a lot of horses love their jobs and mine LOVE pulling carts too actually the faster you go the happier they get its really fun! these people handled it very well and reacted quickly to the problem!! Good job!
my pony did something like that when we were training him bucked n spooked & ran off until his harness & cart broke. That's a really unfortunate accdient. I can't see it exactly but sumthn's slipped & is pulling on his belly making him buck to free him/herself. nothing to do with it wantin ''freedom'' and it's running cause its frightened & there are people shouting. thats jst my view
read my comment below. The trace breaks and the whole thing slips backwards. I guarantee that you could have just put him back in the harness and continued.
ok i do this with a freind it it isnt that bad these people were pushing the horse cuz they took a tight turn true they shouold of made it wider but still this sport isnt that bad, they should of checked there tack
that poor horse obviously didnt want to pull those people up the slope. and then when it freaked out it got its leg stuck at least it broke free. but we all know that it would have been caught and forced to carry on working :(
The breast collar flops off meaning the trace broke...
As he climbs the hill after the u turn, the chest strap fails and the harness slides down around his belly. This is why he bucks several times. Then the carriage wheel gets stuck on a tree. The horse is fine and probably loves his job. You just have to own some and you can tell how they feel about such things.
Glad to see no one or the horse hurt. Help prevent this happening to you and hobble train your horse. My carriage horse is trained that when her feet are bound she stop and stands.
This has already helped me several times when broken blankets have tangled in her feet.
The horse is not happily taking off for freedom. He is afraid. I am glad he wasn''t terribly injured or killed. And I am glad the people are ok too. Carriage accidents can be horrific.
The harness starts out arround his Mid section forward of his belly. As he climbs the hill after the u turn, the chest strap fails and the harness slides down arround his belly. This is why he bucks several times. Then the carriage wheel gets stuck on a tree. The driver then releases both the tugs and reigns so that he won't tear the carriage apart. The horse is fine and probably loves his job. You just have to own some and you can tell how they feel about such things.
THAT pony decided they were done! i know the driver had to had a pounding heart and short of breath, but i hope the video later made them laugh!!! i too, have some pretty crazy show stories. keep driving! :)
It's at times like this that I am glad I drive minis. ;o)

People are shouting "Loose horse!" for a reason, incase the horse get's to areas strictly for humans and/or dogs which could lead to a bad accident.

No, as in a previous comment, everyone is shouting "loose horse!"....
not "we will all die!"....
simply because the horse is going to run into areas where people aren't expecting it.
