For removing rivets, try this: Take your drill and find a bit that is close to the same size as the rivet. Drill down just until the head of the rivet is loose (or almost loose). Carefully pop the head of the rivet off and with a punch, pop the rest of the rivet out the far side. If you're careful, (and with a bit of practice) you should be able to remove rivets without touching the original hole. Good Luck!
What I do is get a super small drill bit (metal of course) and I drill out the centre, when your down, just grab a flat head and pop off one side, and the back side just falls off. I do the same thing when working on cars.
