wtf? I'm from russia and I see people insulting each other to every song of them. cant you all just stop writing where you come from or where you don't want to be... just listen to this beautiful music!
former definition of the word probably dates at least to the 1910s, if not earlier. The use of redneck to designate "a union member" was especially popular during the 1920s and 1930s in the coal-producing regions of southern West Virginia, eastern Kentucky, and western Pennsylvania, where the word came to be specifically applied to a miner who belonged to a union
@andrewjholcomb The term dates back even further in the deep south. It was used to refer to farmers who worked the field all day and their necks were burned red by the sun. They were hard working family men and could generally be found in church on sunday if their crops were not demanding attention. They were not the rowdy drunken white trash that the term is being used today to describe.
The United Mine Workers of America (UMW) and rival miners' unions appropriated both the term redneck and its literal manifestation, the red bandana, in order to build multiracial unions of white, black, and immigrant miners in the strike-ridden coalfields of northern and central Appalachia between 1912 and 1936. The origin of redneck to mean "a union man" or "a striker" remains uncertain, but according to linguist David W. Maurer, the
@andrewjholcomb Although I am not a fan of unions it is good to hear that this term was also used to promote unity among different races. Wish people would get their heads out of their asses today and work towards that. Instead they keep taking the bait everytime the media and our gov't advertise some stupid little crap going on. It's a setup. When a society can live in peace among themselves there is no need for big Gov't and control measures. That means Gov't looses its' power.
@Laurelstarlw true, and rednecks are liek you said not the best educated either, mostly they cant pronounce any shit they are saying, and its good your proud to be a hillbilly and im proud to be a redneck, rednecks and hillbillies aint too different, and i have also met rednecks in tennessee that their whole city had never met a jew, iw as the first jew in the city of gatlinburg. And i am proud to be a crazy ass redneck, which we also have crazy ass neighbors. but atleast we aint new yorkers.
THERES A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A REDNECK & A HILLBILLY. REDNECKS IN2 NASCAR, ROCK COUNTRY & METAL, GUNS, ect. A HILLBILLY MORE OVERALLS, MOONSHINE, MOUNTAIN, BLUEGRASS & COUNTRY, BANJO, ect.
@TANNERGRN their like cousins, but also their different because hillbilly is the pure undeucated backwoods no neighbors for 3 miles type, red necks could be either in the city or small town, but they both are in the same area, the south they go under one form of family
@Kahunabro1997 you are wrong man, I am a hillbilly and proud of it, hillbilly's are not pure uneducated backwoods, we just live in the backwoods ;) Rednecks are not so bright, and do stupid shit. The only reason we hillbilly's don't have neighbors for miles is that generally we are trying to stay away from the crazy ass rednecks and the largely stupid population of the rest of the world and have some peace!
@Kahunabro1997@Kahunabro1997 I've found self educated is better than a college education. Most of those I've seen that push their university history stopped wanting to learn when they left the campus.
The thirst to learn can be how to pronounce a Latin phrase or how to bait a line. They are both honorable as long as the desire to learn doesn't stop.
@davekeays well thats freedom of speech and belief. But to me, a self education kind of lowers social skills, with a high school and college education, you become most of the time socially non-awkward. not always though
@Kahunabro1997 Both can be socially awkward. I own a web development company and live in the southern California deserts so I see plenty from both camps (nerd and rednecks- desert rats in my case). I went to a community college but quit at the Associate degree. I admire the perseverance of people who can either go further or can succeed in life without an HS.
Grad school tends to breed an arrogance you don't see in rednecks.
@TANNERGRN my family came from the Ozarks and could be called Hill Billy, moved to the plains in Arkansas to do some farming so they could be called Redneck. The two are one in the same to me.
Great song, and good job on the pictures and all, but this song isn't about a man named Hill Billy, but about being an actual hillbilly :) Just thought i'd let ye know ;)
