  • Thanks so much for this song on YouTube....Can't find it on I-Tunes. My husband and I are such soulmates that we often feeling like doing just this! Bring's tears to my eyes every time!

  • I also loved Paul, and your right he was always under rated, I still have albums of him, don't know where to play them but... He did a really cool skit with the Muppets that was pretty neat

  • Paul is so good in this song. One of his best. Who can forget his other songs: Evergreen, Rainy Days and Mondays, Rainbow Connection and You and Me Against The World? But this song touches me the most.

  • Thanks Paul.

  • john travolta and diane hyland his mom from this movie it was the first time i had seen a younger guy date and fall hard in love with a older woman their love was something so beautiful to watch he use to keep this big smile on his face when she was on his arm he took her death really hard so sad she died in his arms i have not seen john travolta look half as happy like when this lady was alive and on his arm.

  • you cant get this song on itunes

  • @bambam3dz whats that got to do with the song??

  • This song always brings small tears to my eyes. I can't think of any song prettier than it. Then throw it at the end of a beautiful movie like The Boy In The Plastic Bubble, and you got a big ol' blubber ball.

  • I can't believe this is the same guy who plays Little Enos in the Smokie & the Bandit movies.

  • bambam3dz - that is so disrespectful to one of the greatest songwriters

  • This is the original (and superior) version of 'What Would They Say' as used in the TV movie No Place To Run - 1972.

John Travolta's cover version appeared four years later in the 1976 Boy in the Plastic Bubble.

  • simply outstanding from a great songwriter

  • Thanks for posting. Back in the early eighties I turned on the tv and this song was playing to the ending credtis of a movie. I loved it, and always wondered what movie I had missed. I thought the artist might have been Glen Yarborough and I've serached over the years for this. So very nice to find it here. Thank you.

  • One room shack, nigger pleez.

  • Beautifully romantic melody and words performed by one of America's truly unique and beloved artists.

  • YouTube bans the Helen Reddy version? Lame...

  • THE BOY IN THE PLASTIC BUBBLE !!!! THE END ALWAYS MADE ME CRY - IN A GOOD WAY . IT WAS SOOOOO AWESOME

  • He wrote this song 40 years ago, and I just discovered it. But, better late than never. I love the song, and I love Paul's performance. Thank you so much.

  • I love this song. You did a beautiful job with the pictures.

  • Over joyed to read your response!!! i've been beating people over the head for a long time disputing their inaccurate claims!!! I love this song and am so moved each time i hear it!! Thank you!! At least I now know I'm not losing it!!!

I will certainly check out the film (Melody) as soon as I can!

I've heard the critics say that Sgt.Pepper with the BeeGees was a miserable failure, now I'm not a hostile person...............I loved their music from that film!!!

  • @TJames1081 I have wondered where this song was myself...the music of the 70s&80s were so thoughtfully written..this is the era where I belonged in the heart...what a touching commenatry TJames! ;-)

  • OMG

  • Happy (belated ) 70th Birthday, Mr. Williams! God Bless You!

  • very naturally executed..its as if he is speaking to you directly from the HEART.. I love this song...it would take another Paul Williams to brought this song to the same LEVEL...

  • thank you so much.

  • what would they sa if we up and run away from the roaring crowd.....

  • what would they say if we up and run away.....

  • What is it about this song that always makes me feel better. Good even. I guess its such a nice tune with words that mean so much. I quess I want to escape to another kind of world/life where its as beautiful and simple as the lyrics. Everytime I hear this I think of John Travolta riding off with Glynnis O conner on her horse at the end of The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. .

  • I loe this classic artist Paul Williams! I miss my guitar and classic song books!

  • probably the absolute worst singing i've ever heard. i don't know what you guys are on but holy christ is this awful.

  • @DavidRectum

I have to say, it's not the best singing I've ever heard, but something about this song and how unique? Paul's voice is, attracts me to it. hahah. Your comment made me laugh though.

  • Great song!!!

  • This isn't another version , this is the original version , Paul Williams is the original artist , and the artist for the movie

  • @worldneeds2smilemore Thankyou. I was going to say it but thenI saw that you had. It was also used in a tv movie with Scott Jacoby and Herschel Bernardi about a grandfather and grandson who decide to run away because they want to put the grandfather in a home. Does anyone remember the title ?

  • @thebackgroundartiste The name of that film was "No Place to Run" - Great TV flick. And predates the use of this great song in Boy in the Plastic Bubble.

  • @Ronbo710 Thank you.

  • @Ronbo710 I'm so happy I'm not losing my mind!!! I saw the original film as well and it was so beautiful!! As I remember it was an orphan boy and an elderly man whom lived together and the social services wanted to remove the boy from his home and the boy repeatedly put the old mans mail in the mailbox next door. The day came when the athorities were to come for the boy to remove him and the man was to be placed in eldercare.......The up and ran away.....thus the song title!!! I LOVE IT SOO

  • @OUTOBRIGHTON1234 Yep a GREAT film. The '70's tv movies had a charm all their own. Check out 'Melody' if you haven't seen it. A GREAT British film with Beegees tunes. I think you will like :).

  • @OUTOBRIGHTON1234 what movie?

  • I love this Song its been used in so many Television movies of the Week........but it means sooooooooooooooooo much!

  • he captivates every heart with his music and unique style of singing

  • Paul is in a world of his own matched by none....there is...never has been.....anyone who has ever expressed such a deep emotion as easily as breathing.......set it to a melody...with quite magical yet melancholic....results ...I own one of his demo albums...with songs I have heard nowhere else...This song is one of the selections...I love every single song on it...It is one of my most favorite albums....of all time...of anyone in any music genre...anywhere...

Wished I could get it on a cd!!!!

  • I so glad i finally found my favorite singer. love his voice, his style and songs.

thank you for posting his song.

  • beautiful song. one of the best that was composed by Paul Williams.

  • @sheilahvergara The Rainbow Connection is my favorite but I like this one a lot too.

  • He wrote some of the greatest ballets ever put to a music sheet!

  • Great song

  • why does it have to be this way i love this song as a man

  • Awesome Job!!!!

    I love this song...

    Thank You for sharing...

  • this makes me cry...

  • A truly perfect song.

  • Love this song

  • pauls best song ever

  • His voice is so dear, I'm sure that Paul never fashioned himself as a singer but he very well knew the importance of a song delivery!!!

Anyone ever hear (She Reminds Me Of A Friend)? Performed by Paul on the late Johnny Carson Show)???

The time for Paul has returned today!!!

This reminds me of my dad and his dad, they'd visit the country home (shack) at the lake in Brighton every weekend and holiday. God rest their souls.....tears.....can't help it!!!!!

  • OST of The Boy in A Plastic Bubble

  • THAT GIRL IS GRAT GOOD CALL 4 THE 1976

  • This song was sung by HELEN REDDY. It was the "B" side of a single called "Peaceful."

  • hey,

anyone know where i can get the written music for this so I can try it on the piano?

Such a beautiful song, thanks for posting

  • amen

  • Does anyone know how to download this song? (sung by Paul Williams) Can't seem to find it on Itunes.

  • it's not "another version"...this is the writer, who also sung the song on boy in the bubble....Paul Williams is one of the most talented writers of the 70's...

  • What a wonderful song , Paul Williams has a fascinating voice ! It's the only song i know of him , i will check the other's

  • An absolutely beautiful ballad! I included Helen Reddy's version in the video responses. I hope you all enjoy it. No matter who sings it, the song just tugs at your heart strings!

    (1,000,000 Stars)

HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the "Paul William" fans!!!..

  • For many years Paul Williams has been one of my favorite artists. They bring back both happy and sad memories for me.

  • The Boy in the Plastic Bubble. I love this song too. And the film holds so many personal interpretations , but definitely about love.

  • I love you, Abigail.

    -John

  • He knows how to sing. His voice grabs my attention. Just beautiful!

  • absolutely one of the greatest songs, that I've ever heard.

  • In 1972 Paul originally sang this song in an ABC After School Special movie called: No Place to Run, Starring Herschel Bernardi, Scott Jacoby, Larry Hagman & Tom Bosley. I think it's the best performance of this song, Only thing it was broken up as they paced thru the intro of the movie. However this version is great. The Boy in the Plastic Bubble where this song is best known from and re-introduced was 1976.

  • what was no where to run too about?

  • It was about a Grandfather (Herschel Bernardi) caring for his Grandson (Scott Jacoby) who's parents had died and the Dept.of Social Services said, he didn't have parental rights due to his age. His grandfather left his store and they ran from authorities so they could stay together. So, the song fits perfect, ...What would they say, if we up and ran away... Look it up on the movie internet database for more information.

  • He just wrote the most beautiful songs !

  • I have been looking for this for forever. I'd really like to have the version Helen Reddy did. Rainy Days and Mondays by Williams is another stunner! If you don't know it, be sure to listen.

  • It's hot and humid in So. Ca. Especially where I live Was that Paul Williams? I remember him. I'll send a video of one of my favorite "hippes".

  • One of favorite songs by Paul. If there's a prettier song written I don't know what it is.

  • i love this from the boy in the plastic bubble

  • one of the most perfect songs.

  • LOVE HIS VOICE... VERY SWEET VOICE.

  • I think paul williams is an awsome singer and composer

  • Ditto I used to be a member of his fan organization before he decided to discontinue it.

  • I love this Song..........Its was used in so many 70's made for Television movies and it was always so good..............

  • this is the 1st song that i loved from paul williams the boy in the plastic bubble

  • brings back memory lane..... thanks 4 sharing"

  • no worries :) thanks for viewing

  • Okay disregard my previous statement. I just watched the vid with Travolta singing this(I NEVER knew he did a version!)and it clearly WAS "Downtown aggravations".I was wrong. I DO take some consolation in the fact that it DOES sound like "DEALT OUT aggravations" when Williams sings it. But like I said before, nobody's perfect!

  • @Pallindrom27

oh that's weird, the song was *right at* "downtown aggravations" when I was looking at your comment! - I always enjoy talking lyric misunderstandings :)

  • Yep, they're fun. Like "She's got a ticket to ride" from The Beatles being misheard as "She's got a chicken to ride", to John Fogerty's "There's a bad moon on the rise" being misinterpreted as "There's a bathroom on the right"(I heard he ACTUALLY sang it that way once in concert because of it being misheard so often)there's a ton of them. In "La Isla Bonita" Madonna sang "Last night I dreamt of San Pedro" and some thought it was "Last night I dreamt of some BAGELS"! LoL

  • Beautiful vid but you got some of the lyrics wrong. For example, it's "Dealt out aggravations" NOT "Downtown aggravations". Nobody's perfect, but I appreciate the effort.

  • Yes, this is a classic song. I remember 1st watching this movie back in the 70's on t.v. and falling in love with this beautiful song. The lyrics, voice and music just is so pleasant and peaceful. Thanks for sharing this song!! Carry On!

  • Awesome song......Boy in the plastic bubble....Little man with a huge voice.....

  • Great Artist as well as songwriter. Brings up memories from the 80's.

  • I chose this beautifull song for my wedding theme in 1978. I was quite significant at the time. Unfortunately the marriage failed but I will always remember not only these lyrics but many more of your compositions. Thanks Paul.

  • It (the song) was significant not me - fool.

  • one of the best vocalist ever in this time
