Jungle Hunt was originally called Jungle King, but the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs (creator of Tarzan) threatened to sue. The Tarzan-like character suddenly became a white hunter and the game name was changed.
I always thought the final level of the cannibals was kind of lame. They should have had it where you knife the canibals quickly before she got dipped into the boiling pot. I guess that would have been politically incorrect???
Wow! Talk about nostalga. I havent heard this music for over 25 years. I sunk so many quarters into this game. The 80,s are gone but not forgotten. Wish we had them back.
They need to remake this game like they did with all the other remakes, give it a longer story and play mode. Keep the music the same, but updated for the newer style. Then in the new game there could be an easter egg to access the real Arcade version. Thumbs up to this if you agree.
So funny how he falls running up hill :) Man this game is so much better than Pitt Fall. But I guess Pitt Fall was never made for Arcades and straight to the Atari systems. That gives it a pass I guess. I like Pit Fall too, but man I miss this game.
That's right - the game you're talking about is "Jungle King" - they changed it to this one when they got sued by the estate of Edgar Rice Burroughs for allegedly infringing on the Tarzan copyright
I've played this on the "GlobalVR Arcade Classics" machine over at my local Buffalo Wild Wings... fun, but for 50 cents a shot, I'd rather play Bubble Bobble...
do you get to be the girl if you finish the first playthrough? the wikipedia article doesn't mention this, though the glimpse of the playable character looks different and I swear I remember my brother telling me this was true.
Yes. The tables have turned! It is slightly harder, IIRC... Like she doesn't run as fast, and she gets out of breath easier in the gator section. Honestly, I forget to be honest.
I spent madd quarters on this game. The crocodiles used to mess me up. I know I was cuttin' them muthas up but they still killed me!
The boulders used to gyp me as well. It only had like 4 boards to play so it got boring after a while.

I played a version that used a Tarzan-like character instead of an explorer type. Otherwise it was identical.

I bought a good version of it for PS2 at Walmart about a year or so ago. The disc is called "Taito Legends", and has 29 classic arcade games on it.
