  • This seems to be a combination of the two songs, actually.

The Boswell Sisters version of this from 1931 is surely a benchmark.

  • Ray Noble recorded this as "Sailin' On The Robert E. Lee". "Roll On Mississippi, Roll On" is listed seperately, Both songs have the same composers.

  • Sorry, but this song is "Sailing on Robert E.Lee" not "Roll on Mississippi, Roll on"

  • I absolutely love this orchestra, swingin'

  • I love this! I wish they had the Ol' Hickory Quartet's version on Youtube! That one is even better!

  • This is great -- smokin' hot stuff.

  • I hope to find more Dave Ringle compositions. This site has given me my first opportunity to hear my uncle's work since I was little. Currently researching for Broadway/Vaudeville production.

  • Robertson made dozens of Decca records in the mid 1930's under his own name that featured the top New York jazz musicians playing great arrangements. Most jazz enthusiasts in this country are not particularly interested in vocalists - with a few exceptions. They collect these Robertson records for the bands, not his vocals.

  • Incredibly hot. The best version of this tune I've heard.

  • Kardos was known for his advanced style for the period, which is clear in this post, thanks for posting!

  • Some swinging sail on the Old Man River. Brilliant pictures!

  • Almost a "swing" song which really didn't hit popularity until l936 supposedly....
