Wow. You are 100% about that "paperiness". I get that on my Galaxy S2, and the employees at the place I bought it from didnt see it. I thought I was the only one that saw this.
I don't usually comment, but great job!! It's nice to know what the real world application of this phone is like. I watch a lot of reviews and you are right, many of them tell us things we already know :p
I've got to say, you've delivered the most comprehensive review of the Galaxy Nexus for those that really wanted to see the phone's capabilities in a real-world situation. Kudos to you, I hope you bring more gadget reviews to youtube!
What can you tell me about the volume of this phone while using headphones with it to listen to music and such? I will most likely be using this phone to listen to music, and I'd like for it to be rather loud like my iPod Touch:P
And I'm sorry, I also wanted to ask you about screen bending and multitouch issues? I understand that some users have a screen that's slightly bent to the left or right and some users have a screen that is unresponsive to multitouch in some areas, have you had these issues?
@MadDogMeh hmmm...I have absolutely none of those problems...my screen is uniform and I can play multitouch games with no issues....so I have no idea.
Now forgive me if I'm wrong, I'm trying to decide between this and the Motorola Razr. I wanted to know if there is a setting for "Tap to focus" and if image stabilization was off, because in the powerpoint when this phone was launch, Samsung did mention image stabilization. And is the phone still a good phone, now that you've had more experience with it? Is the lack of an SD bother sum?
@avacadomilk2010 in regards to the PENTILE there is a slight edginess on smaller letters but that does not bother me one bit. That says a lot because I have superb macro vision and can see any minute detail.
there were lots of concern aired about the pentile nature of the display back in october when samsung announced the specs, and recently even leo laporte has poo-pooed the poor quality of text on the phone due to this savings in color pixels. did you notice anything particularly bad about the text e.g. ragged edges etc.? I ask because I'll be using my next phone a lot as an e-reader.
Good Video I picked up my LTE GNex on launch day and I have to say I love it although I hate the transfer speeds using USB instead I use AirDroid over wifi and the transfer speeds are extremely fast and wireless. Also I love the camera soooo much! The video while not the best quality in the world actually allows you to zoom while recording unlike my Sammy digicam and the time it takes to get the camera app up and snap several shots takes seconds! Unlike my Droid X so that is pretty epic.
@heyfunnykun Also what I meant about the Video recording zoom is that my DualView Sammy Digicam mutes the audio if you zoom during video recording which make that camera useless at one of my Daughters school concerts but I have to say the sound quality of the video recording is very good. Also 5 megapixel doesn't sound like much but on a phone that is about perfect for any quick shots that are more than likely just going to be used to post on facebook or G+ or for a picture msg.
@gtr2828 dude...you've got entirely the wrong idea. This phone is nowhere near laggy or unresponsive! This phone is a GEM of FREEDOM! iPhone locked me down to the point of madness! Everything with Apple is can't do this, can't do that. I will freedom of media for slow transfer speeds no questions asked!
@gtr2828 you put words in my mouth. I said live wall paper is a bit laggy ONLY BECUASE IT ISN'T ICS OPTIMIZED. If you don't understand what I am saying maybe the iPhone is a better choice. I love Apple products but gee whiz...you are certainly not free to be yourself with them...you work for them. They certainly don't work for you.
thank you for reviewing the things that actually matter. I already own the phone, but I completely agree with you. As this is Google's flagship for ICS, it is almost guaranteed they will update most if not all of these small issues. One thing to mention, it still does not support swype and some older programs/games won't run due to the resolution. Amazing review though, loved it, and subscribed. Look forward to more reviews in the future.
@starcraftplayerone unfortunately MTP just appears to be a slow animal on either operating system...it's not like USB 2.0 and above.
Also, windows natively supports MTP through Windows media player. Make sure to have the lastest version of WMP installed. For drivers issues, I can't stress this enough.
This is a really great comprehensive review. Best one out there I'd say... some internet blog should hire you, but then your work might go to shit... keep it up.
Have had mine for two days now and love it. I agree that this phone is only going to get better and better, as more developers develop for ICS. Your video was a very nice change from the usual spec driven videos.
Using advanced task killer actually does not effect the battery life. In some cases, it actually makes it worse. Android is designed to use a lot of RAM unlike other OS's.
LOL at 02:48 your notification ringtone is the same as mine and I thought it was my GNex that went off. Great review! There are also other great videos and reviews especially from Phil@androidcentral and Kellex from Droid-life. I have the phone and I still watch every video out there! Love it!
Sweet Review...couldn't have done it better myself!! Hopefully you stick with the Nexus for a longer amount of time then the Bionic...seeeshh. I really like the phone! But I'm coming from the OG Droid part uno, so anything who have helped me get my roboto on for 20 more months, hehe.
Ahhh. I did drop mine and I did cry.

@MadDogMeh There is no image stablization
..but I have a steady hand with a camera. There is tap to focus during photos but not video. The continuous auto focus is pretty good though.

Why do you even care about the phone lasting you a long time? Mommy and daddy will buy you another new phone in a week anyway.
