  • @nomadiq get the Fuck off my dick asshole I wasn't talkimg to u omg so rachid

  • music was so original and fresh in the 80's

  • beautiful song for a beautiful but funny movie. Thank you John Hughes for my childhood movies..love them all !!

  • i was born in 1981... i don't kno if i should call myself an 80s kid or not

  • Being an 80's club kid....all these movies...all the music....best ever....glad I was part of that scene.

  • Thank you John Hughes!!!

  • Jake Ryan? He doesn't know you even exist!

  • These are The Psychedelic furs my friends.

  • @RAMSASS actually it's the thompson twins..but good guess.

  • @peanutavalon OH shit you're right, I confused this song with Pretty in Pink

  • Best era ever-3 Class of 84!!!

  • I really feel sorry for the younger generation when I think how we had the chance to witness true talent not just boy bands and bubble gum music..

  • in the 80s it wasnt as important what color you were or how much money you had..only if you were a mod. preppie, new waver, punk or metaller....and if you had PoT..you were big time back then.

  • Thanks for getting my undies back...

  • Its funny for us that grew up in the 80's we did not realize how special of a time it was until we were older and our kids wished they had grew up in that time. To us it was just a fun time being a kid and teenager with cool music and the same world drama as today. c/o 88

  • @choinumni4 Yes it was a special time. It was such a fun time to be a high school kid. I will never forget the great music, friends and awesome times..This song and all 80's music reminds me of the best days of my life.

  • @Jbirdrules3818 No offense, but get your own decade! Oh but yeah, your movies suck... So I guess I can let you have this, just this once.

  • I just turned Sixteen 2 days ago and I watched this with my boyfriend and we made out to this song . Best birthday ever L))

  • Awesome! I've watched this movie so many times I can't count! I love this movie! You could find yourself in at least one of the scenes. There was something you did or a friend did. Everytime you see this movie with someone you can say," Yeah girl, I remember when we did that." lol

  • Sad thing for me growing up in the 90's my family would only watch 80's movies so in away I felt like I grew up in the 80's.

  • Cuts the fog and confusion of technology from life as we know it now. Too many are distracted by it all to be very true to themselves anymore. John Hughes was on to that even when he made his movies. He'd have no idea what to think of modern life now.

  • Oh my gosh...cuz..I am bawling..thank you for this AWESOME B-day 'movie memory' shoutout all the way from Italy to Dixie...You really know how to get to me..sniff sniff...("JAAAAKE!") I love you!!

  • i have the movie in my channel

  • Fire crotch

  • I am still listenning this in... oh who gives a flying fuck. 2011 sucks balls anyway.

  • I saw this movie when I was 16... It was like heaven back then. I miss John Hughes. If I could go back to any time frame, it would have to be '80-'84, my high school years. I most relate to Anthony Michael Hall's charactor. Oh well, enough day dreaming for today, back to '11 and all the crap that comes with it ;)

  • This is my second favorite - first was Pretty in Pink with Molly Ringwald and Jon Cryer, James Spader, Anthony McCarthy etc. LOVE THE ENDING SONG of Sixteen Candles! Thanks for adding it :-)

  • @AmericanWoman1231561 andrew mc carthy not anthony

  • I was 14 Y/O when this movie came out and I LOVED it then, like I do today. John Hughes..he did have the best high school movies..He also made The Breakfast Club..right? I LOVED this movie too...today is my birthday....

  • @ourtwicebabies Yup, he also did Pretty in Pink. Rest his soul :(

  • I loved these John Hughes films back in the day. I've tried to introduce them to my teenagers and they don't get them. I don't get why. They were classic teenage films. Seeing Molly Ringwald as a mom on the Secret Life probably doesn't help.

  • really makes me want to be an 80s child watching this movie..:)

  • I automatically think of sixteen candles when I hear this. R.I.P John Hughes

  • I love being a 80's child !!! Best years & movie's music !! Etc !! Nice post bro !!!!

  • Brings Back so many memories back in the 80's when i saw that movie. Wanna go back to the 80's too!!!

  • TOP Movie 80s :)

  • ♥♥♥♥♥

  • The attitude towards gingers sure has changed since the 80's

  • Oh man perfect BIrthday song for me....Where is my Jake Ryan at????? LOL Love this one!!!!

  • OMG who wasn't in LOVE with JAKE RYAN?! lol

  • I was 8 when this movie came out! I'm from northwest suburb of chicago & drive by the areas where this movie was made (northern suburb of chicago) I often see the church & high schools & immediately play in my head that "Jake Ryan" is about to pull up in his porsche! John Hughes all your movies are golden! May you rest peacefully & be remembered infinitely! I feel blessed & honored to have grown up in the '80s with real & talented movies & music! My son's name is "JAKE", obsess much?!?! ; )

  • Excellent movie. Even though Ringwald was a serious fire crotch.

  • This final scene in 16 candles is probably the most perfect moment in any 80's teen movie. It's a classic. I can't believe nobody has bothered to post the finale to this movie considering how many other movies are posted in their entirety on youtube. The song by Thompson Twins is perfect for the end of this movie too.

  • Skoben2000: SO AGREE!!!! My high school years too! Also I see your b-day is one day before mine. Cool. (Leo) ;)

Anyway, ALWAYS loved this song and still listen to it. I have it on a compilation cd. :)

  • Pleae put me on a time machine , i wish i were Jake Ryan back in my High School years :) School was cool .

  • Besty song of deceit yet happy loviness! Nice!

  • i'm born in 85 and i'm proud to be a product of this golden age :D

  • I first watched 16 Candles when I was 9-10 yrs old. I recently watched it again as I didnt' think I really understood it all those years ago. So watching it as a 33 yr old I actually shed some tears when Molly's chracter got the guy hahaha Man I wish too to go back to the 80's life was so simple as a kid...

  • Funny, while playing this song my 11 year-old walked in all in a huff about something and stopped cold in his tracks and says: "...what is this song?". That's interesting because he hasn't the same connection to it that I have. Wow.

  • Give me some JAKE!!!! He is SOOOOOOO HOT!!!

  • @clazzylady38 lol...get in line haha

  • This was one of my all time fav movie songs... Yeah I was an 80's teen. The time of the best teen movies!

  • This was one of my all time fav movie songs... Yeah I was an 80's teen. The time of the best teen movies!

  • TGHE CURRENT GENERATION HAS NO MUSIC TO PASS ON BECAUSE RAP IS NOT MUSIC !!!!!!!!!! SO DAMM SADD

  • hi im a teenager and i love this song and movie i was born in the wrong decade.

  • one of best song of love..do you remember???

  • I had my daughter watch this with me she is 13 and told her about me jumping up and going towards the t.v. when this part started. She is so left brained I didnt think she would understand but she did and she did think Jake was cute. I can close my eyes and it takes me right back. Love it!

  • I still get chills.I remember watching this movie on the floor in the living room and when this part started I got up and walked toward the t.v. So much emotion after all the years. I like it! I guess I'm still alive!

  • john hughes did not direct my life :(

  • I love Skoben2000s post i love those movies and that post is so true i mean these movies are nothing like wat we watch now nd imn under 16 but the perfect movie and sonngs go together like pb and J

  • I remember being surprised the first time I paid attention to the lyrics... So not a love song, despite soundly lovely.

  • Closed my eyes and went back in time......

  • being a parent now I hope my boys will have the same memories that I did.

  • Ah the good ole days when we were young, I sure miiss the 80's .

  • John Hughes captured teenagers and adolescent existence like no one ever will again.

  • The 80s were SO GREAT to live in. I GUESS I GOT TO GET IN THE GARAGE & GET THIS FLUX CAPACITOR FIXED ON THE DELORIAN SO I CAN GET MY AZZ BACK TO THE 80s .... where the times were simple, life was good, and a real " romantic " encounter was actually possible. WHEN I GET IT FIXED I'LL PICK YA'LL UP !!!

  • If you watched one of last year's wonderful movies, Easy A, there was a bit of a John Hughes tribute to the romance of that time. The sneaky thing if you noticed was this song (If You Were Hear) was playing on the radio when Woodchuck Todd was giving Olive a ride home after her disastrous date.

  • i want to go back

  • •··♫♫♫ ♫♫ ●●•٠ ·Had to here this song Right Now ·♫♫♫ •··♫♫♫ ♫♫●♥Ƹ̵̡Ӝ̵̨̄Ʒ♥●

  • My daughter saw '16 candles' for the 1st time. And she loved it. It's a testament of sorts to the writers that the movie is timeless and speaks to all generations. I'm just suprized hollywood has't tried to remake it yet like they do everything else...

  • @Maxharddrive64 it's a great movie but you know if they did a remake today they'd have to end it with Jake and Sam in bed...cause that's what real love is....or so they think. This is a great movie. Hughes was great! Innocence is underrated today.

  • @Loopster88 I think your right on that call..They'd ruin it of course by doing that, but they'd think it was great, what Huges understood in his ending in the original was that he left it up to your imagination, which is what all good movies usually do and unfortunately , IMAGINATION seems to be in real short supply nowdays in Hollywood.

  • I got my teenage daughter watching Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink and Breakfast Club

  • I was out shopping with my teenage niece and showed her the DVD Sixteen Candles. She said 'ooh, that's old! I don't want to see that!!' lol

Well, I bought the DVD anyway and convinced her to watch it.

She absolutely loved it! And has watched it more times than she'll ever admit.

    This movie is a classic

  • omggg i absolutley love this song, its the best love song

  • Awesome use of synth. Before synth became generic sounding as it is today.

  • Comment removed

  • i love this movie and also the 80's even though i was not born in that year

    i wish i was :(

  • I also feel so blessed to have been a young man in the 80's,

but the only real bad thing was the emergence of AIDS.

So unknown and scary at the time. Thank God we had the

music to mitigate that awful scourge.

  • This is a moving song whether in the 80's or now. Was very much a Thompson Twins fan. Have recently separated from my wife after a long marriage and it is nice to listen to this sort of music now to bring back memories from my youth!

  • call me lame or whatever this song is still EPIC!!!

  • I'm 16 now and in the same boat as Skoben2000 even though granted different era this stuff will never die! <33

  • I've always told myself I would watch this movie on my 16th birthday, well its my sixteen birthday today, and I'm watching it!

  • @tayhoke1 Hope you had a great birthday! How cool that you watched this on your 16th birthday! I saw this for the first time on my seventeenth birthday when it was still in the movie theatre!

  • @tayhoke1 happy belated bday than.lol

  • @ BLACKIEWACKIE1983

Lol! That's what i heard as well!

  • "if you were here i could deceive you"???

  • I'm watching 16 Candles right now. And Its a total classic. I think I was born in the wrong generation. I was born in 1997 I wish I was born in the 70's . . . I'm stuck in the past. . . (SIGH)

  • Well said Skoben2000.

  • To Emily - may all your birthdays have happy endings and perfect theme songs. Thank you Heidi for making me think of it. And to you Sheri, who loved this moment as much as I did!

  • perfectly perfect

  • such a beautiful song!! im so jealous of those that were teens during this decade- you experienced great movies and awesome music! I hated being a teen during the 00's...damn it sucked =/

  • @Carina08x no it didn't. every decade has its ups and downs. we got to see the invention of youtube/facebook. the first black president. every decade "sucks" until it's gone.

  • @thesportsdude90 well obviously you liked it, but people have different opinions and my opinion is that it sucked lol. and facebook isn't even that great, it gets everyone in either trouble or murdered! youtube is great though, i must agree with you on that, but still i'd trade it all to be around in the 80s, sorry! x)

  • @Carina08x well, guess what, living in the past is a waste of time. you cant go back so enjoy what we have now because by 2020 you'll be syaing damn I wish it was 2004.

  • @thesportsdude90 ok whatever, like i said, that's your opinion

  • @thesportsdude90 I see a lot of comments like Carina's on Youtube. Actually this is the first generation in which significant numbers of young people want to go back to their parents time, and that says a lot about contemporary culture. Prior to this, younger people didn't want anything to do with their parents time (We certainly didn't in the 80's).

  • @Carina08x

The 80's were an amazing and idealistic time to grow up, but I doubt that a modern teen would survive if they were transported there. No, internet, no cell phones (except for the very rich) most people didn't have Cable t.v. just the 7 main television channels (including PBS) and most of those would go off the air when it got late haha.

Life was just MUCH slower. If you've ever admitted to being bored during the 2000's you wouldn't make it.

  • @Califacience At the same time, humans can adapt to almost anything. Eventually the joy derived from Angry Birds and Facebook would be replaced with something else. It's like when we suffer a loss (in this case it'd be technology), we move on, and make the best of what we have. Personally I'd never want to go back to the 80s; everyone looked so... hairy?

  • @Califacience I grew up in the 80s and it wasn't that great. Lots of 80s kids were in love with the 60s and wished they could go back to that time. And music like this was really dismissed by a lot of people...not unlike the backlash against Bieber. Yet, at my reunion this was kind of music was the most requested and for some reason I like this music far more than I ever did back in the day. Music is a powerful way to reawaken feelings of youth, even not so great music.

  • @linzie78

Well I grew up in the 80's as well, enjoyed it, and happened to have never met any of these kids that wanted to grow up during their parents time.

But ofcourse there were Punk kids and others who hated this stuff

By the way, i'm not the first to remark on the unique nature of this generation's fascination with the past, it has been written about by others. I'm sure there have always been a certain number of young people that have longed for some other time, the issue is extent

  • In my experience, it is usually the Cynic that grew up in and enjoyed the 80's the least.

and it is only naivete that is unable to discern the stark level of cultural deterioration that we have undergone over the past 25 years and is able to "relativize" it into a matter of generational preference.

All the more so when this generation is clever enough to see past such an idea.

  • These are the endings you dream about of your life..

  • all these years and I never knew it was the thompson twins, huh

  • It's always 1980-something 'round my house

  • love this song and this scene. here is to my girlfriend. Happy Birthday baby. It's my birthday too. : )

    8-4 Leos forever

  • Loved the 80"s!!! Friday night videos! spiked hair! vanns, down suspenders, parachute pants and the birth of MTV!!! 1984 was one of the best years of my life! Brat pack movies! Thank god I was a teenager then!

  • This brings back so many memories I saw this movie when I was a teenager and I always loved this song in the movie. This will always be by far my favorite movie. Thanks 80sand70sMemories for uploading this video. I just took a walk down memory lane and I loved it!!!!!!!!!

  • Cute guy, birthday cake, dim lights, Thompson Twins song - what more could a girl ask for?

  • This is one of those pretty songs that has lyrics that entirely don't suit the occasion.

  • This was my first dance. :)

  • I was born the same year this film was released, another one from The Brat Pack era.

  • A favorite of mine from High School :) thanks!

  • I was born in '88 and this is my FAVORITE movie of all time. I guess the crap I've grown up hasn't been as good.

  • yes the 1980s were the best! I wish i were still there. better times than now (for me at least personally)

  • I love this movie. I remember when it was in theaters in 1984. I own the dvd, and I love how One Tree Hill did a remake of this movie. What a classic!

  • Skinny jeans, hi-tops, graphic tees - we invented that stuff! The '80's rocked!

  • @peekaboosmom I was in class of 87 and we rocked. I remember everything in that era. Skinny jeans, polos, oversized shirts and tight pants with clear plastic shoes, neon colored shoestrings, the rat hairstyle (long thin hair with the short hair). I miss it.

  • @robbiesyohn Yup, class of '87. Big hair and good times!

  • the 80s were the best fun times.

  • I adore this movie- and was/am obsessed with this song... this picture says it all- its an amazing movie & story!!

  • Max A. Santa Monica College 1984

  • I really wish I grew up in the 80's. I love EVERYTHING 80's no matter what it is lol!! I love Pac Man, Pin Ball, Space Invaders ect. I love all the 80's movies and music. I think I truly belong in the 80's! The 80's seems like it was a really fun decade and I wish I was born in 1971 so that I could've been a teenager in the 80's lol! :)

  • @brittanynicolefield1 the 80s were the best amazing time, im 29

we could always turn the world like that again, but people suck lol

  • @stefanybody you wouldn't want reagan and bush back in again though! They were horrible.

  • @robbiesyohn yea but things were better,

  • @stefanybody that is true. I wasn't really politically aware of things back then. Being a teen and all that. I loved the music. More upbeat then. I still dress 80's though.

I have oversized shirts and tight pants. I have polo shirts and shoes from that era.

I don't like keeping up with the times. I am more retro than ever. I love 1950's clothes. Even the cars, music is great then. I was born in '68 and that was a rough year.

  • @brittanynicolefield1 You missed out on a wild era. Clothes, music, etc was fun. There were some bad times too.

  • @brittanynicolefield1 Call me stupid but can you download pacman, centipede, space invaders, donkey kong, super mario online? I never played it online but I know there is a way to do so.

  • God i miss the 80's

  • I wish I had grown up in the '80's . I love '80's teen movies

  • This was and still is my favorite Thompson Twins song. I always thought it short and sweet it seems over so soon. I always found it quite and emotional song and melody a but sad. Great lyrics and such an amazing keyboard solo. One listen is never enough. Magic stuff and it makes me feel nostalgic.

  • The 80s was my favorite decade - wow, what great times back then.

  • Isn't it amazing the impact a perfect song has on a perfect ending to envoke such emotion in someone DECADES after production? This was my high school years. To this day, some of my HS friends and I still quote movies of the Brat Pack movies as we listen to these undying classics that even later generations can't help but to love and wish they could have been a part of. Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and the Psych Furs...These were the times of my life. Thank god I turned out to be me! ;-)

  • @ Skoben2000...I was thinking along those same lines about the song. For such a small part of the film, the impact of the song and the scence stands out.

  • @Skoben2000 Better words were never spoken! Kudos!

  • @Skoben2000 right there with ya

  • @Skoben2000 awesome. so true.

  • ME TOO.PEACE

  • @Skoben2000

I completely agree about the impact of this song so many years later.

  • 80's... wow... the best decade for EVERYTHING!!! It was sooo awesome. Movies like this, (RIP John Hughes :-(. ), songs like this, nostalgia remains true...

  • Makes me think of an old love...that I just started talking to again....man I miss how the 80's made me feel....

  • Ooops, I forgot to mention on my post how much I also loved this song. When I first heard it back in the 80's, I just fell in love with the song and wanted to know right away who the artist was. I'd just listen to it over and over again. Oh how I miss the 80's, movies and songs like this..

  • I love this movie so much! Thank god for dvd's, I can watch it over and over again..anytime..:)

I too had a crush on Jake Ryan (aka Michael Schoeffling)..He was so cute!!

  • they did that scene in One Tree Hill a couple days ago! actually, they dedicated the episode to John Hughes, and referenced a lot of his movies!

  • As a guy I have to say that this is undoubtedly my favorite chick flick.

  • what a tune. the 80's must have kicked soo much ass.

  • This song makes me melt when I hear it and when I heard it back then. I love my husband!

  • Always dug this song. Indeed, I remember it so well at the end of "Sixteen Candles." Ahh, the memories from that period. I grew up right in it.

  • Gosh,I love this movie so much. I'm 16,and I'm still waiting for my Jake Ryan to come:)

  • I saw this when I was 16.... Time flies so enjoy 16 while you can...

My name is Joel Goodson. I deal in human fulfillment. I grossed over eight thousand dollars in one night. Time of your life, huh kid?

  • Everytime I hear this I think of the man of my dreams...... Jack Ryan!! *Swoon*

  • it's JAKE ryan

  • @arizonaleigh LOL exactly.

  • Jeessshh i love this movie...and probably i have watched more than a thousand times....lovely end =)

  • Yes the most wonderful time to be a teenager I was 17 years old in 1988. My daughter was born the next year and coincidentally some of the music she likes has an eighties rhythm.

  • it'd be awesome to go back.love this song.freaking love this movie

  • Best movie ever!

    & I wasn't even born in the 80's.

    One of my favorites.

    :)

  • Aambrosiaa1....don't forget the tight roll jeans and acid wash jeans. Ahh....the 80's....what a fun decade!

  • Hahaha.. I had acid wash jeans with suspenders when I was little. Summer of 1988 I believe. I was only 3! lol I wore them with a tacky 80's sweatshirt underneath and red converse shoes haha..

  • You ain't lyin!!!! I am so happy that I grew up in the 80's because life now is so different..if you think about it hard enough it will make you sad at the fact there is nothing like it now.

  • Dear Mr. Vernon: We accept the fact that we had to sacrifice a whole Saturday in detention for whatever it was we did wrong. But, we think you're crazy to make us write an essay telling you who we think we are. You see us as you want to see us: in the simplest terms, in the most convenient definitions. But, what we found out is that each one of us is: a brain . .

  • I would've loved a sequel, to see what happened to their relationship. Blown opportunity!

  • John Hughes I salute you for making the 80's a great time to be a teen.

  • Anyone notice the license plate on the Porsche reads 21850 -- John Hughes birthday. Ah man, it's all in the details. :) P.S. I love Jake! But then, who doesn't. lol

  • the girl in sixteen candle isnt she the mom on secret live of america teen will something like that

  • Yup, she sure is!

  • YESS SHE IS

  • one of the finest slices of pop ever on a soundtrack. its impact on that moment, in THAT movie, is unforgettable. sigh...

  • Farewell, John Hughes
