  • Yes yes thanks now can you please burn that horrible PT Crusier, honestly building a modern take of a hot rod and putting a crummy 4cylinder engine in it. Please America make a proper car.

  • the thruth from gta san andreas

  • But it only works if you're on a hill....

  • He forgot the important part where you let out the clutch and turn the key at the same time.

  • @K20ej88 you dont turn the key when trying to pop start, you keep the key in the ON position, roll the car in second gear then dump the clutch and keep driving.

  • I find it worrying that someone can have a driving license and need to watch a video to learn how to drive.

  • @laughton15 What's the difference between a guy in the video saying, "this is how you do this" and a person in front of you saying, "this is how you do this?" Not much, I tell you.

  • @laughton15 look, this is not "how to drive", this is how to start a car with a dead battery. I found this video because my battery died today and if I did not have a replacement, this is what I would have done. I still intend on trying this to see if it works. As for how to drive a stick, have you seen the people that have driver's licenses? Not high requirements. I would bet 70% of Americans that have a drivers license do not know how to drive a stick.

  • pt niggga

  • There are Pros and Cons for both Trans , hey Rob it's a PARKING Brake NOT and emergency brake!!! They are generally about as good as an ashtray on a Moped in an emergency because most drivers will PANIC and totally lock up the rear wheels and if the brakes have failed due to an inexperienced driver overheating the brakes on a steep hill then the Park brake will be just as useless, WHY you ask because in most cars it is a Mechanical application of the rear Brake whether it be Disc or Drum.

  • pt cruiser... more like pt LOSER LOL

  • I'm supposed to take advice from someone who drives a PT Cruiser? I thought you were an expert on cars, what the hell are you doing driving such a crappy automobile?

  • @eskimo810 They're not as crappy as you think. My friend has one that's also a 5-speed and it's actually pretty respectable. I raped an 08 Miata in the streets with that thing. He was double-clutch down-shifting trying to keep up but it wasn't going to happen. Plus they're reliable as hell. Ugly car but respectable. That's all I got to say. Not saying I would own one but they're not that bad.

  • @PIchillin456 it's all in relativity. They're are plenty of cars that are faster, more comfortable, and more economical. Saying this car is good is similar to being amazed by what an automobile is to begin with. Does it work as an incredible means of transportation? Yes, of course. Are there are other vehicles that would do it with so much more dignity and comfort? Not doubt.

  • i like that car LOL it would be good to blow up hahahahah

  • wtf he didnt even say what he did i couldnt see what he did with his feet

  • Are you sure?

  • With regards to the comments about it working with a completely dead battery... The relevant point is that the field coils on most alternators run from the battery, so without a battery they won't produce elecricity at all. In saying that, it only needs the slightest current.. far less than needed to light the dashboard lights, so the chances are it will go even with a 99.99% flat battery . The people who say the alternator's output isn't strong enough to make a spark have missed the point.

  • can you still start it if the alternator doesnt work?

  • @XLwiggyXL yeah then no. yes. but all the power needed like the spark plugs will be taken from the battery and the alternator will not produce any power so your car will run till the battery is dead. happened to me at a gas station in my truck. it sucks cause you have to get a new alternator fast. luckily my truck was not that long away

  • Would this work with an automatic? If so how can I do it and if not why?

  • @trdjunkie nope, you can't start in 2nd gear

  • @thewindsurfguy Yes you can! I

  • @michaelpdrock1 only if you have tiptronic enabled, which you can't do if your car's battery is dead

  • omg that dinging

  • what happens if you have a push to start button

  • personally i would close the door first, but, you know, whatever works

  • wow. a cheat code.

  • Wait, so you don't even have to turn the key? once the car starts rolling the engine will start itself?

  • @adamhully no, this is what i do

    1.ignition turned to Auxilary

2.in first gear with clutch to the floor (or 2nd, whichever is ur preference)

3.when i get rolling enough i let the clutch out quickly until i hear the engine turn over, then push the clutch back in and continue driving, but replace the battery ASAP bc when u do this ur running off the alternator and an alternator replacement isnt so cheap, mine was $400 installed...it wasnt from doing this, the alternator just went...

  • @speacialperson12345 What other advice can you give me? i have a Standard Camaro and tried to Push-stat but failed...it was my first attempt ever. the car started shaking as its supposed to but it didnt satar and i had to call a friend with cables.

  • @Alejandro1313sixx thats all i really have, maybe u werent moving fast enough?..is all i can guess

  • @speacialperson12345 ..... I tried it again and got it... yeah the first time i tried it i wasnt moving fast enough

  • @Alejandro1313sixx oh, i dnt suggest doing this unless u dnt have a choice, obviously

  • @speacialperson12345 you got screwed with that deal. i got a new alternator for 30 bucks.

  • @ccubsfan94 the shop put it in...he said oh its really hard to get to...i was like then do it, but i get the car back, its actually really easy to do, but i guess labor added the price up, cept i did get screwed,

  • @speacialperson12345 i love working on cars. best idea is to buy a cheap old car and just work on it and learn. you spend 500-1000 bucks and you get a good education. i have a 74 chevy pickup and im in it about 1200 bucks and i've learned a shit ton about cars. ive done the same with my computer. im selling it cause all it is is headachesbut ill keep that truck for a while. its got a new bed nice cab new fenders. has low miles and has a 350 with a four bolt main so i can put some power in it

  • @ccubsfan94 makes a lot of sense really

  • @speacialperson12345 yeah my friends ask me why i buy cheap cars. well i learn from them. and after a while you can buy cars fix em up and sell them for a profit. i have about 1200 into my truck and think i could get about 2000 for it. my dad didn't have a job when he was young. he bought, fixed cars up and sold them. and in these times hes thinking of doing it again for the side.

  • @ccubsfan94 its also fun as well

  • Dead battery? I love the noise and lights then.

  • @masonrox2547 noise and lights operate off the alternator when the vehicle is running.

  • @masonrox2547 i think it is just for demonstration

  • wait so it will just start on its self or do u hav to turn the key then even farther?

  • Thanks dude you just saved my friends and I from spend the night in an empty park... Don't. Know how else to thank but if you're ever in NY let me know I'll you a beer... -Carlso-

  • Its gotten to the point where I dont even listen to this guy anymore. I just come here to read the comments. Lol, the people who comment give me better information than THIS guy does.

  • @KarimAustin316 dank is a term to describe how strong the weed is DUMBASS

  • EXPERT

  • does this work when u have a bad alternator?

  • that's one of the advantages of having a manual transmission car. Now let's smoke.

  • @edyken77 oh my god, i laughed so hard at this.

  • @edyken77 No bro, I have an automatic and I did it.

  • I loled

    @edyken77

  • haha i just did it and it worked perfect my driveway was not steep enough and those Volkswagons aint light cars atleast not the old ones

  • You never explained what to do with the clutch you moron.

  • @peto0101 I agree

  • I do that when my battery of my moped is empty haha xD just put it in gear and hold clutch.. then release it quickly (dont forget to hold clutch after..) xD

  • Had a friend who broke his leg doing this himself

  • @vseae15o how did he end up doing that?

  • pt loser cruiser

  • If your battery is dead you will not be able to start it that easily lol! you are gonna have to push that chrysler or whatever it is up the road as fast as you can or get your neighbor to jump start it.

  • 0:17 he stated "without a battery" i'd like to see a car run "without a battery"

  • @imlowlife the Alternator kicks in once the car/truck is started and supply's all the power you need to run your engine

  • @imlowlife as long as the engine´s running, no battery is needed..

  • yea an thats no fun with a truck that weighs 8000lbs or more

  • in a PT, good shit

  • can you do this going backwards

  • @sofakingwetaughted yes if you put the car in reverse (and are drifting backwards)

  • expert village sucks

  • no u retard poping the clutch means u put it in the microwave like popcorn

  • Do I need to push the clutch in?

  • @57ftw

yes, push in the clutch then let it roll, then once you get a little speed, "pop" the clutch (let it out very fast) and it will start running

  • @V6Explorer

I was sarcastic, as it's not mentioned in the vid.

  • He doesn't say to pop the clutch if you don't it doesn't start.

  • what a gay car.

    womens car.

  • @MRkallek91 well a fag like you i bet has to take lessons from his vids of this gay car so shut up punk

  • hahahaha Amerykanie odkryli odpalanie samochodu na "popych"

  • Steering is unlocked with the key on the on position but power steering requires the engine to be running so you might be able to move the steering wheel but it will be very stiff. Also I use 1st gear and let it roll only about 3 feet this varies by car. Once you pop the clutch it starts and you might want to hit the clutch again to keep it from stalling. Then either let sit so the alternator charger the battery or start to drive for the same result.

  • do u have to turn the key any more or once u pop the clutch does it just start?

  • Well, it's good to know how to do this in a jam.

  • It's a good tip, but it's not good for your electronic ignition which is common in most modern (1995 and later) cars. So don't do it just for the fun.

  • actually it makes no difference. the transmission spins the engine the same as the starter would. As long as the the electronic ignition senses the cam and crank moving, it'll fire and inject fuel accordingly.

  • I'm guessing this video is intended for americans

  • is it me or did he say put the GAR in 2ed gear

  • Yeh lol xD

  • yes second gear , works on first gear but not as well,

  • He meant that he pronounced CAR as GAR.

  • what a dick.. tell people that they actually have to let the car get some speed and then smoothly but quickly let the clutch out just till the engine fires then put it back in

also can be started like that in reverse and other forward gears but not usually first as it's too low.

  • This will work...but not with a completely dead battery.

  • r u retarded?

  • gotta have about 9 volts for the PCM to turn on

  • @halohadel

are you sure? are you sure that you fully understand what`s happened, this way of starting engine?

be carefull doing like that, could be dangerous for engine with worn-out "distribution belt"

  • @halohadel LOL yes it will. The battery is only need for start up. This method works because you move the car, the clutch spins, the clutch slides into the fly wheel when you release the clutch and the clutch spins it, moving the pistons which ignite the fuel, your engine just started. Now your alternator is turning, your battery is now being charged too, at a low rate. I know this comment is 11 months old but that right there made me weak.

  • @halohadel As long as you got a little bit of heat in the ignition its ok.. Get the car rolling in a hill, ofc. push the clutch.. When you are in about 10 km/h ++, put the car in 2nd gear and release the clutch to make the eninge suck fuel into the cylinders.

  • @halohadel it will if the battery has enough energy for the starter to click it will work

  • @TheKeashaun not true.

Only if the battery has enough voltage to jump the spark gap

  • @halohadel WOW 21 thumbs up? for someone who doesnt know what a starter is....Aaaaaaaa... yeah'll work... i took the battery out, and had my friends push the car and it started. battery is just there to turn the starter... but the starter isnt needed by doing this technique.

  • @bigal8701

It all depends on if your alternator can supply enough voltage to the spark plugs. THOSE still take electricity to run

  • @halohadel well it all depends how hard you push dahhh ... the faster the more voltage will be produced... (any car) .... Aaaaa... nope... once the car is running battery is not needed... go to your car right now, and turn it on then unplug the battery VOILA! still running, doesnt matter what year, they dont need electricity to run

  • @bigal8701

I know you don't need a battery when the car is running.

I'm calling you out on your story of just unplugging the battery. An alternator doesn't start producing a lot of voltage until over 1000rpm

In second gear, you would have to be pushing around 20 mph to hit 1000 rpm, at least with larger engines with low gearing.

  • @halohadel omg i wish youd lived in seattle washington... i would have volunteered for a free demonstration, "HOW TO START A CAR WITH A BATTERY" lol ... i promise it's possible... you fast enough and use 1st gear, it's jerk but start right away, then you'll need to disengage the clutch right away

  • @bigal8701

LOL bud I probably have more pop starts under my belt than you.

I'm just arguing that the voltage supplied by the alternator with a completely dead battery would not be able to overcome the spark plug gap.

  • @halohadel hmm maybe i have one of these transformers car... oh wait, my motorcycle starts with battery too, i wonder if she's a ttransformer too... seriously man, it's a simple electric circuit physics ;)

  • huh...do we need to release the clutch before rolling it or what?

  • what you do is you put the clutch it and let it roll in gear then pop the clutch out then put it back in quickly and give it some gas ...... make sure you are in the correct gear if you are pushing backward put it in reverse and do that but if you are rolling foward put it in second like he said ..... he didnt even show you how to do it

  • he is using the momentum of the car in place of a battery. Instead of the starter turning the engine, the transmission is. So you need to be moving before you dump the clutch.

  • you press the clutch, the car will start rollin or have a friend push it, when u hit aroung 4 to 5 mph then release the clutch quickly , after it start repress the clutch again, pretty simple looks harder than it is,.. cheers

  • what if the steering is locked..and it will only be unlocked after the engine is started....and my garage is a L shape...so need to turn first then only can push~

  • Then you're screwed >_>

  • usually the steering wheel is unlocked if the ignition is in the on position.

  • @murasame03 ... ... ... when u put the key on the on position it will disengage the 'lock' ... Dumb ass

  • not for my car....

  • @murasame03 are you sure you can't unlock your steering wheel with just a key?

Try pushing your brake, turning your key, and slowly pulling your steering wheel to the right.

  • @murasame03 Your steering should unlock when you turn the key to the ON position.. Something is messed up with your steering doesnt unlock intill your engines started.

  • @infernocalibersrt4 he might have power steering

  • @faze19124 yea i think so manual steering is like what the fuck

  • But that is depending on if you are on a hill at all, if not, how would you let the car roll?

  • PUSH , lol

  • u cant

  • if theres no hill gotta push that shit

  • @heshtime lol

  • nice hat

  • the car did have a battery cus the bell was ringing for the door being open tis was stupid

  • Listen to what he says in the video you moron.........

  • o and what about the sparklers if you have no power then they don't work , and yes i know that it takes more power to start then to run how ever how (time, distance, or any indications) long would the car stay on be for dieing at a red light or stop sin

  • 0:37 to 0:43 i think has some dialog missing

  • my dad did this to my car after it died in the middle of the road (actually i stalled it and it didn't turn on again, haha). but instead of second, i was in neutral.

    i was very much surprised.

    -ana

  • looks like a riced pt cruiser to me :X

  • what if your on the hill facing upwards? will it still work iff you roll backwards?

  • Yes if you have it in reverse it will work but it'll be a bumpy start since reverse is such a low gear.

  • oil starvation is a probelm when starting in reverse, ps you should never start a gas car like this, oil starvation. diesels are started like this, but they have a different oil delivery system. just jump the car. I have seen a lot of problems because of this

  • Yeah, that's what I was just wondering. xD Kinda SOL then.

  • Yes it Will its the same thing

n u dont have to put it in second gear

    i tried this before

do as he said keep pressing the clutch n keep holding the ignition n as it rolls down w8 a sec or two then lift ur foot of the clutch not to fast or u will make the engine shut down

  • what if we're parked between two cars XD

in front and behind, now you're done for lol

  • ur done for with an automatic or a manual :P

  • hehe xD

life isnt always that convenient unfortunately.

  • is that a fart can?

  • this is a well known procedure. I used to own many classic cars and everyone in owners clubs knew it. It's not something you would do everyday, but there are times that it is very useful. Once I pushed the car like hell (because the car was indeed Not on a hill) so that my friend could sit on the driver's seat and carry out the procedure as the care gains some speed. not a bad knowledge to have if you like old timers.

  • But if the car isnt on a hill, how is it going to roll a little bit in order to start the car?

  • Push it, run and jump in!! Just don't trip or it's gone!! haha

  • Hahaha

U gotta have muscle to push your car, especially if it's a van

  • HAha very true....Well then you could just do it the easy way and have someone jump your car with cables!! =D

  • lol.

  • im pretty sure a jump start or a new battery is cheaper than a clutch, or driveshaft....what a dumbass

  • dude your gay. You clutch or driveshaft isn't gonna break by doing this. It's a pretty normal thing to do with a stick.

  • i always thought it would be really hard on it. i mean. it cant help it right? lol

  • well it doesn't help anything because yea it some putting some stress on it.....but.........my grandmother knows how to do this and has done it many times. It's pretty common.

Using your breaks wears your breaks but ppl still use them haha. :)

  • Would you rather replace a $2000 transmission, or $100 brake pads?

  • .....what does breaks have to do with popping your clutch from a dead battery?? haha

  • wth is wrong wtih u ur freaking retared

    driveshaft :|

do u pay for a new battery every time it dies :| cuase ur a retard if u do lmao

  • so you'll change your battery everytime it's dead?

  • I bet that guy smokes dank weed

  • that is the ONLY thing I could think about while watching this video, I don't even know what he was saying

  • @graddiebp "dank" and "weed" are the same thing, idiot

  • @KarimAustin316 Actually dank can describe weed too.

  • :22 anoying american ding....

I know the door is OPEN i JUST OPENED IT!

  • what did he do? he didnt do anything or explain anything?

  • he bomb-started it; kinda tough on the engine (usually you only do it to things like dirtbikes), but if you need to, this'll work. He just held down the clutch, then once it was rolling, quickly let it off: the rotation of the wheels then turns over the engine, causing it to start.

  • ah why thankyou. you could probably see my confusion. all he said what "and then...there you go." didnt really do much in terms of explaining what he did, so thankyou

  • lol, he said turn the key almst up to start! then press clutch, then shift to second gear! then the push down the handle brake, then let the car go, then start..

  • Expert Village's experts are random street people with no expertise whatsoever.

First, he doesn't know the name of the ignition switch's "on" position. Second, he never mentions the clutch in a video whose key point is releasing the clutch.

And third, he's an aging bearded hippie with a Manhattan accent driving a PT Cruiser.

This is a bizarre, non-sensical combination, and in every way points me away from the conclusion that there's any remote chance he's an expert driver. Thank you.

  • erm..

    2nd gear,let the car roll,n automatically start?o.o

anything to do with the clutch?

  • Interesting. I'll remember that when my battery drops dead. Thanks for uploading this

  • i think this is not recomended on cars with a distribution belt .coz it might skip of the point or break

  • This is uesless. He never actually says that you need to lift the clutch pedal.

  • very nice, perfectly for gas engines. for diesel engines you need sometime 2 attemps.

  • when u lt the E-brake down and u r in 2nd gear do u hit the gaz and the clatch in the same time!??

    plz replay

  • similar to the spin-starting engines on old airplanes?

  • riyt wat if ur by urself on a flat road?? so u cant possibly push the car and have ur foot on the clutch at the same time can u ??

  • Wow, as if I hated cars before, this video just made me hate them even more.

Didnt understand a word he said. He said with a dead battery, yet he was using the gas.... I dont know I might be wrong.
