i had the p2 but the headset jack got loose within couple of months and the paint easily came off on the back other than that it was a good mp3 player. i am looking to buy the p3 if it doesn't have the same problems as the p2 did

@theMahagoni: The sound quality is incredible, but my old P2 is not too far off. I hacked my D2 to use the D2+ firmware and I also have Rockbox on it which completely blows away the competition. The radio is good, but not anywhere near the clarity of my P2. The D2's radio is on par with the Sansas from SanDisk.

i have both. the ipod definitely is more user-friendly... probably because more people use it, so there are more apps and feedback for them to improve it--for example, i like the ipod's touch recognition system better; the haptic is kind of useless. but ipods have by far the worst sound of any music player i've tried, and i dont know about you, but a music player that plays crappy music is not very good by any standard.

i would get the p2, because the p3's touch system is horrible. like, pretty much the crappiest touch system ive tried. its features, like the haptic, the speaker, the widgets, the flash games, are pretty much useless and the player is designed poorly: the volume controls are both at the top and really close together, so that you get them mixed up in your pocket all the time, and there is no physical play/stop button, which is pretty much the most ridiculous thing ever.

the ONE thing better about the p3 than the p2 is the touchscreen itself; it's a lot harder and feels less breakable. because my p2 screen broke once and i had to send it in for repairs.

both have phenomenal sound quality and horrible software, so i wouldn't compare the two on those

so basically: p2 is cheaper, has better touchscreen, and better user interface (the p3 lags like the most laggy thing ever, it's poor english but true, im afraid) in exchange for a slightly more flimsy screen.

nah i own both and they are ver very similar...basically P3 is exactly like the p2 except with body steel and a speaker...and redesign in-menu...the video playback is the same quality.

although the P3 is more attractive than the P2, the P3 doesn't really have much more than the P2. Being a P2 owner myself, seeing some of the features on the P3 doesn't really phase me since most of it was already from the P2. The only real major additions (apart from aesthetic) are the Vibewoofer, speaker, the menu, and the animations for the pop-up menus. Other things like a slightly improved DNSe, the next version of Bluetooth, and the Flash player don't really make it that much more advanced

P2's touch screen doesn't do what you want (sometimes): If you press in the middle of the screen, it goes back to the previous menu :S, this happens when your fingers are smooth/soft. I'll buy the P3 when it comes out in Europe/Holland but i have no freaking idea when... :(

I have a p2 and im very happy with it, the p3 so far does not seem like a big enough improvement for me to upgrade. Also, the brightness seemed to me the biggest difference between both which is a non-issue since the p2's highest brightness settings is already more then enough for what I need for video playback.
