  • What is at 2.23?

  • Love the tease, but I knew what it was leading to.

  • HE S GOOD/BECAUSE HE DOESNT THINK HE IS G.B.S.M

  • done as a filler between songs when Ian and Jon Lord take a break, this is awesome.

  • yup, yer right cowboy! Deep Purple's singer's name is Ian Gillan. Wikepedia says so. did I spell Wikepeiai right? lol

  • The answer is that theres no answer! What was the question again? :)

  • is that vocalist Ian Gillian (Deep Purple)?

nevermind, got it. recognized the keyboard man.

  • @Robb9096

it's just Gillan. man i wonder why so many call him GILLIAN. it's odd

  • is that vocalist Ian Gillian (Deep Purple)?

  • Morse is amazing. Too bad peole can't respect his decisions to play what the hell he wants and they cry about the defunct Dregs. I love the Dregs stuff... but he was never simply in that box. The dude can do anything. Don't cry when he does.

  • I saw them live, yeeeaaaaa, and I went to one of Dio s last concerts, r.i.p. \m/

  • Or alternatively there is plenty of room at the top!

  • I prefer this guy with Dixie Dregs... wtf happened to him?

  • @fitipaldi90 Ummm...the Dixie Dregs broke up in 1983. Steve formed the Steve Morse Band shortly thereafter. The Dregs have reunited on occasion, but mostly he fronted the SMB until 1994, when he replaced Ritchie Blackmore as lead guitar player in Deep Purple. DP has never looked back. Steve very occasionally plays SMB concerts during extended breaks with DP; that is, not very often. Sucks for us who only dig his Dregs-style playing...

  • so rarely do you hear amazing musicians cover other amazing musician's riffs....its great to hear other iterations of different songs.

for instance, who else would pay to hear santana cover led zep or clapton cover blue oyster cult?

  • Here they are, in order...

Whole Lotta Love - Led Zeppelin

    Jimi Hendrix - Fire

    Cream - Crossroads

    Day Tripper - The Beatles

House of the Rising Sun - The Animals (those two are really brief)

You Really Got Me - The Kinks

And finally, Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple (as if anyone didn't know that one)

  • @irarawkstarr dude in the beginning he plays a lil bit of the heartbreaker solo from led zeppelin

  • @irarawkstarr HeartBreaker is first.

  • @irarawkstarr Heartbreaker first and inmediatly goes to Whole lot of love...

  • @irarawkstarr The first bit was like 5 seconds of Heartbreaker then he goes into Whole Lotta Love

  • Can someone list out all the riffs he plays in order; there are some I do not know.

  • Can someone list out al the riffs he plays in order; there are some I do not know.

  • At first I thought this guy was like yngwie malmsteen (no soul just mindless shreding) after actually listening to this guy hes amazing... althought tommy bolin is my favorite purple guitarist

  • @ThePowerslave94

While all the Purple guitarist are great.... It was a very sad day when Mr Bolin left this planet. A true pioneer! Hard to imagine what music would be like today, had he not left us soooo early in life!!!!

  • WATCH THAT VIDEO !!!!

/watch?v=YBJg4gERFLY and tell me what you think

I kinda got steve morse's / lukather tone insIde

the video is also on my channel

  • can you give me the tab when i change song?

  • What is the song that stars at 1:37 ?

  • @gildigol - Crossroads!

  • @jondoe8889 Right !

I knew it , just forgot the name , thanks !

  • Awsome!!!!

  • at 0;16 i jizzed and now offcially want those fucking pickups

  • Whole lotta love , Fire, crossroads, day tripper , house of the rising sun , you really got me.

    that was easy

  • @Tzachi076S and then some.

  • @ajarvinen

    smoke on the water (?)

  • what gear is morse using holy shit! tone is amazing

  • @CanadianKryptonite I read that he use Peavy 5150 heads but I'm not sure...also some effects...try to google

  • @CanadianKryptonite Steve Morse doesn't use a lot of effects, or stompboxes, he plays his MusicMan Signature guitar, and when that video has been made, he played two Peavey 5150 heads (Van halen signature head) with their matching cabinets (4 for the dry sound and 2 for the wet sound (sound including effects : tow memory man delays, one set on short and one set on long)). I hope I told you what you wanted to know! ^^ (sry for my bas english)

  • @MAC93MAN he uses a ENGL steve morse signiture amp head

  • @TheStew7777 He uses the ENGL E-656 signature head only since 2003, and when he plays his signature head, he plays through the ENGL matching cabinets. This video has been made when he used to play on Peavey 5150 head (we can see the Peavey cabinet). I'm really sure of it!

  • blackmore is shit

  • House of the rising Sun is in there right before you really got me.

  • it`s like a radio wave on the guitar ))) But the most all time famous riff is the Smoke on the water!!

  • Check out Albert Lee - he can whip them all !

  • I keep playing this over & over. Steve Morse seems to be part of that guitar like it is human.

  • i like the whistles there at 3:35

  • what are the songs that he plays all together?

  • This is a stroke of sheer genius! I love it, I wonder if Steve discusses what riffs he is going to pull off during the intermission, or do the band just have to catch up.

    Superb Mr Morse, as always.

  • 28 people are bitter hes better than they will ever be!

  • someone played the exact same riffs in the exact same order , plz tell me who is was , Grts

  • LOL

    Zeppelin played by Deep Purple

  • i think its the best solos ever of steve morse!

  • @Intel17AMD Naw, Steve Morse sounds way better when he's playing Steve Morse. I've seen youtube clips of him doing way more technical stuff than this. The 81/2 Minute Unnamed Solo and Classical Guitar Solos on youtube are more indicative of what he's truly capable of...

  • good copy of the original.... but 2nd.

  • qué capo

  • why is everyone fighting about who is the better player?

Is anyone even listening to this song?

like Mr. Steve Trovato (former teacher at GIT) said:

Please dont judge, its just music man!!

  • @nung1009 yeah theres not a best guitarist only guitarist of who YOU think they are better. music is no competition. you can have a personal preference, but you cant say that hes the best guitarist in the world.

  • Where did 28 people get the balls to click the dislike button?

  • couldn't you just enjoy the video instead of fighting over who is better player? everyone have their own opinions and there is no such thing as "the best guitarrist in the world"...that's my opinion anyway

  • Great fucking playing! Jimmy Page is better, but damn, this Steve Morse guy is insane!

  • @RockerForLife74 Sorry mate but Steve is 10 times better than Jimmy Page. I'll tell you how. Steve is the cleanest guitarist ever but Jimmy is just like Ritchie, SLOPPY

  • @MrSteveMorse Cleaner isn't better. In studio, Jimmy was clean and well composed. If you saw him live, he would kick down the boundaries and let his soul sing like you wouldn't believe. I tell ya, How the West was Won proves that Page is better than Morse. Listen to it man, Page destroys everyone!

  • @RockerForLife74 You're not serious...are you? Wow.

  • @shep79 How the West was Won.

  • @RockerForLife74

I love Page too, but as a guitarist, i gotta say that Morse is 1000x better...Page is great as a producer and composer, but his guitar playing is sloppy...listen to the heartbreaker solo, for example, it sounds horrible...and just because he's Jimmy Page doesn't mean that the solo sounds good.

Take a look at Morse's solo albums...you'll notice such a perfect guitar playing, clean and full of feeling.

  • @2Funky4me Again, listen to How the West was Won. From 1969 to 1975, Jimmy Page was at his best. All 6 years show Page playing with skill that is clearly unmatched. Some people say that Page follows up from what skill Hendrix had before he died. Page's skill is tremendous and extremely unique. One thing that makes him unique is his sloppy playing. It would sound great because it was different and unpredictable. Page's split second pauses are great examples. Page is better. How the West was Won.

  • @RockerForLife74

    Ok...it's a matter of preferences

  • @2Funky4me Exactly. When it comes down to skill, style, and performance, Jimmy Page beats Steve Morse. Not by a lot since Steve Morse is truly an amazing guitarist, but Page is looked upon as a god or something beyond one.

  • @RockerForLife74 Page is the sloppiest player except a few times where they could use his tacks for the records, FACT just go back to the 2 and 1 " studio masters as we have! I have seen Jimmy many times and he is lazy even when he is on the junk. I have heard Eddie V.H playing in the same room and Steve eats em ll for lunch. Steve Morse is and always will be a players player and never a hit with mainstream and we like it that way!

  • Just because Page is sloppy doesn't mean he's bad. That's just his style. Andeven if Page was lazy, (which I doubt because Zeppelin would of kicked him out) he is regarded as a legend, a master, and god in many people's eyes. Even if you're not a Zep fan, guitarists especially realize his amazing creativity, his complex and difficult guitar riffs and licks, and his killer solos live. Page isn't a whole lot better than Morse or Eddie, but still better. How the West was Won will show you.

  • @RockerForLife74 thats a matter of preference.

  • @Tedericoe Didn't I already reply to that comment? A preference can be a fact so if anything, I'm only listing opinions backed up with facts. If you want me to list them I'll be happy to. It's beyond me if you've understood anything I'm saying.

  • @RockerForLife74 Jimmy Paige's sols weren't really complex, they may be complex to another person who doesnt play guitar but they were influential because it was different to mainstream music consumer of those days. There are many players who could and can play circles around Paige IE: Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, John Petrucci, Steve Morse, Paul Gilbert, Jeff Loomis etc. Those players listed above in any interview will not deny what Paige and Led Zeppelin did for the music industry.(outofcharacter)

  • @Tedericoe My preference would be listening to the players above over Paige becuase i grew up with those guys. I still love led Zeppelin to death. You stated above that "preference is fact". Thats my preference so its right for me. People over complicate music. They forget its true meaning. Music aint a competition.

  • @Tedericoe Page.

  • @Tedericoe In studio, you're right. Page's solos were not all that complex. Live however during Led Zeppelin at their best, that's a different story. Check out Heartbreaker by Led Zeppelin live in Oosaka, Japan 1971. That solo, along with countless others from other songs, prove Page's unique, beautifully sloppy playing to be better than the clean and flawless. Not all mistakes sound bad. Page could turn a mistake into something outstanding on the spot! The way he did was different than every1.

  • @RockerForLife74 Spot on! I think it was Jimmy who coined the phrase "Loosely Tight" That applies to everything he did, live or studio. best solo ever? Live No Quarter...

  • @06mets Best live solo ever eh? Shit, there's so many! No Quarter is fantastic and is definitely in the top 5 best live solos. Achilles Last Stand performed in 1979 and 1980 were really amazing. Heartbreaker performed live in Osaka, Japan 1971 is the best Heartbreaker solo I've ever heard. Again, that is in the top 5. A lot of Stairway to Heaven solos in 1975 were tremendous and excellent. And the Whole Lotta Love solos from the original song and the medleys from 1972 are the greatest.

  • @Tedericoe oh sorry I didnt see. list your facts btw.

  • @RockerForLife74 You got to be kiddin me?!? I grew up emulating Hendrix, Clapton and Page, before being introduced to McLaughlin, Di Meola (whom Morse has worked with) Coryell, Benson, et.al. Believe me, Jimmy Page is commercially appealing, but he's no Morse in terms of pure technical skill. In short; just about ANYBODY can copy Page. Heartbreaker solo?!? First learn the left hand pattern, and then pick up and down aimlessly without any regard to accuracy - there ya go - Heartbreaker solo!

  • @TheTranslator100 How the West was Won. That's all I got to really say. How the West was Won is proof that Page beats Morse. Sure, Moore is right behind Page, but Page is still better than him. Again, not by a lot, but still better.

  • @RockerForLife74 Can you elucidate your meaning of "better?" There's no premise to your argument other than "How the West was Won," so what you're saying can be dismissed as personal opinion. When I say "better," I'm exclusively referring to technical complexity. It's very simple; practically ANY decent Rock guitarist can copy Page. Steve Morse is gonna be a little harder to copy due to his advanced technique, and I'm not referring to his lame imitations of "Famous Riffs" lol

  • @TheTranslator100 How the West was Won gives any person a real feel for what Page best playing is. He's better in How the West was Won than in Madison Square Garden, Earls Court, or Knebworth. 1972, for whatever reason, displayed more of Page's true technical skill. How the West was Won is a collection of some of Page's best solos ever performed in his entire life. Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, and Since I've Been Loving You on HTWWW show skill superior to Morse's.

  • Comment removed

  • @RockerForLife74 Dude, I started out copying those solos (Dazed and Confused, Whole Lotta Love, Heartbreaker, etc) in my first 2 years of playing guitar, until my quest for more speed and technical skill eventually introduced me to Jazz and Fusion players like George Benson, John McLaughlin, Al Di Meola, Larry Coryell, et.al. Have you actually sat down and attempted to copy Steve Morse and Jimmy Page?!? Rock guitarists from the 60's and 70's don't have the technical skill of today's players...

  • By copying the solos you mean trying it out until it sounds alright an moving on to something that peaks your interest right? Jimmy Page's solos from the early days of Led Zeppelin shine above all others because of his immense technical skill and overall talent. Morse has a similar shine with his amazing precision and fluent sound. The one thing that really makes me believe that Page beats Morse is Page's improv skills. Page even makes mistakes and turns them into magic. Morse plans ahead.

  • @RockerForLife74 Immense technical skill?!? LMAO. Needless to say, Page is literally an amateur compared to Morse, Malmstein, Vai, Satriani, Govan, et.al in terms of technical skill. All experienced guitarists know this. Jimmy Page is like an American version of Carlos Santana when it comes to riffs You play guitar right? Then sit down and work on a Page solo, and then try Morse, or any of the players I've mentioned. That should make things more clearer to you...

  • I study music (and the guitar, but don't play) and I play the drums (Yes, I think John Bonham is the best drummer). If anything, How the West was Won shows that Page is more than a "American Carlos Santana". His playing is widely immaculate and again, better than what I have heard out of all the guitarists you've named. Don't think I'm not a fan of their work, I love rock music and the guitarists that made it. Page seems like the most capable and skilled, Morse beats Page in other factors.

  • @RockerForLife74 WTF - you don't even play guitar?!? If so, then your argument is based solely on personal opinion, and not personal experience, thus rendering your assertions as not credible. I suggest resuming this debate with the guitar player in your band. And yes, John Bonham was the best...

  • Like I said, I know the guitar, but I can't play it because my fingers just don't have the coordination and precision needed to play it. That's one reason why I'm a drummer :) When it comes to a lot of the techniques used in playing guitar, (i.e pull offs, hammer ons, pentatonic scales, harmonics and others) I can identify how skilled a guitar player is by how he/she executes various techniques, and other factors that count. I gotta know this stuff. I want to become a full fledged musician. :)

  • @RockerForLife74 Yeah, drumming can get pretty technical as well, but it's much more physical and blunt compared to tedious guitar playing (e.g. John Bonham & Keith Moon). Well good luck on your quest to become a full fledged musician.Instead of engaging in more heated debating, I think I'll go practice now - I'm all argued-out...:)

  • @TheTranslator100 Haha yeah I might as well practice the drums. And I gotta say, the guitar is the hardest instrument to learn out of your standard rock set up. Cheers man and keep rockin'!

  • @RockerForLife74 Excuse me, I meant an "ENGLISH version of Carlos Santana" lol

  • @TheTranslator100 oh lol.

  • @TheTranslator100 In my opinion, Steve Morse is the finest overall electric guitar player that I've ever heard. I don't like to engage in discussions about who's the "best" because it means something different to everyone but I will mention a couple of players from the 60's and 70's who can hang with anyone. Jeff Beck is a monster of technique and feel as well - he just keeps getting better and better. The late Roy Buchanan was also a technical master and a very underappreciated player.

  • @Bandfan64 The "Rock" guitarists of the 60's and 70's only used hammer-ons and pull-offs, as opposed to picking all or most of the notes.

In the 60's and 70's, only "Fusion" players (e.g. McLaughlin, Coryell, and later - Al Di Meola) utilized alternate picking as a vehicle to acquire tremendous speed. In short; Metal players from the 80's on up have acquired to ability to pick all the notes, instead of relying on mere legato, which is an easier, and less pronounced way to execute speed.

  • @TheTranslator100 also known as hybrid picking a great fusion between legato and constant alternate picking

  • Was this from they played at Epcot?

  • awesome!!!!!! steve morse is fast!!

  • I love the Whole Lotta Love part

  • Fret wanker with a big ass distortion..

  • Wow what a waste of his talent. From playing the likes of I'm freaking out to being in bad deep purple cover band...I guess in a world where American Idol sets the standards this is what we get.

  • @mhh333 if a band with 4 members of the best line up is a cover band, I'm JESUS....

btw: great solos, and a great song after it...

  • at first it's Heartbreaker and then it turns into Whole Lotta Love

And then i think it's You Got Me Floating from Jimi Hendrix...then Crossroads and You Really Got Me

    Yeah Led Zeppelin

  • i need to know the name of the song played in the first riff... is a led zeppelin song?

  • @BlackBeltNico

    Whole Lotta Love, I believe.

  • no the very first is short excerpt from heartbreaker, only then goes whole lotta love

  • @BlackBeltNico Whole Lotta Love by the greatest band in the world, Led Zeppelin

  • Does Steve play holding the pick with 3 fingers?

  • dirrrrrrtyyyyyy intro

  • W RITCHIE BLACKMORE!!!

  • true legends

  • We all have our favorites. Some may be awesome like Steve and others not as..., but still created awesome songs. They are all artists, although some are asses. Steve Morse is a normal person, humble, and kind enough (back when I was able to see SMB) to engage fans.

  • You guys are right about House of the Rising Sun. Thanx for pointing that out. Easy to miss.

  • ok blackmore was good....but morse is way way better......

  • You cant say that blackmore sucks..

  • Whats the song at 1:00?

  • Fire - Jimi Hendrix

  • Morse is so awesome!!! but thers no denying that richie was a great guitarist, even if he was a bit of an arse :L

  • I think is something like this:

    1) Heartbreaker

    2) Whole lotta love

    3) Fire

    4) Crossroads

    5) Day Tripper

    6) Some VAN Halen song

    7) You really got me

    8) Smoke on the FUCKING water!!!!!

  • I think it isn't a Van Halen song, it's the hard rock version of House Of The Rising Sun :)

  • Comment removed

  • did steve write smoke on the water or was it blackmoore

  • Blackmore, but he so sucked. These guys were REALLY lucky to get Morse...

  • @1crow Haha, you GOT to be retarded! Morse is good, but saying Blackmore sucks is the worst nonsense I've ever heard! He and Gillan made DEEP PURPLE! I sure as hell won't go see them without Blackmore! I've got better things to waste my money on.

  • @1crow how can this comment get you +4?

  • Steve Morse is my homeboy born right here in Hamilton Ohio!

  • what guitar is he playing?

  • Steve Morse Music Man signature.

  • an ernie ball 'steve morse' model about £2300 !!!! thats $4500 if your across the pond my friend

  • 1) Led Zeppelin - Heartbreaker (solo) 2) Led Zeppelin - Whola Lotta Love (solo+riff) 3) Jimi Hendrix Experience - Fire (riff) 4) Cream - Crossroads (riff) 5) Beatles - Day Tripper (riff) 6) Kinks - You Really Got Me (riff)

  • Between "day tripper" and "you really got me" Morse played the animals - house of rising sun

  • It's very difficult to listen but you're right.

  • You missed "House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals Between "Day Tripper" and "You Really Got Me".

  • @jspartacus I know ;-D

  • my guess that this was in about 2007

  • the video was posted in 2006

  • It's from 1999's Total Abandon :D

  • This must be before 2002 because it's Jon Lord who plays k.boards here

  • 53:00 Fire by jimy hendrix very very nice!!!!

  • THANKS!

  • at 53:00 seconds... is that part of an actual song?? because i would LOVE to sample that part!

  • This was pure performing genius, draws in a crowd, and everyone loves it when you segue into a signature like that. Learn from the pros.

  • The intermissions were supposed to be like channel changin noise, or travelling through time and space into the next riff; they aren't mean to be music lol.

When you realize them for what they are you hear how cool the idea is.

But yes, they are fucking horrid.

  • It's the slot machine "pull the lever" noise.

  • @TheBanyanEmperor i see your idea..yep twas brilliant!

  • @TheBanyanEmperor One man's horrid is another man's hilarious! Gotta love this guy.

  • Comment removed

  • Heartbreaker solo Whole Lotta Love solo Whole Lotta Love riff intermission Fire riff intermission Crossroads riff intermission Day Tripper riff intermission IDK House Of The Rising Sun? riff (well part of it) intermission You Really Got Me riff intermission Smoke On The Water song WOW!
  • it would be kinda funny to see Blackmore playing some Jimmy Page xD

  • It would be funnier to see either one play each other! It would be shocking to see Led Zeppelin playing Deep Purple, or Deep Purple playing Led Zeppelin... But I mean the original Deep Purple...

  • i wouldn't say shocking. it would be cool. Hendrix played Clapton and Clapton played Hendrix. and a Blackmore-Page thing would be cool the same way. but i think Blackmore, the way he is, would never play some Jimmy Page even paid LOL

maybe Blackmore and Gillan got pissed off with each other because Gillan kept saying Jimmy Page was better, and then Blackmore replied the same way with Plant.

lol i'm joking of course xD.

  • Jimmy Page wouldn't do Blackmore too... And we don't know why, why would either of them do each other... Both were similar so much... (And yes, if you say that Jimmy ripped songs, well no, actually it was Robert who was the one who ripped lyrics, without the rest of the band knowing that it was ripped, but Jimmy did ripped stuff, so as Ritchie...)

  • the reason because Clapton and Hendrix played each other was they met each other and were friends.

friendship or influence are the only things needed for a guitarist to play other. otherwise, it never makes sense...

  • yeah the original, good old days

  • PEOPLE PLEASE !!!!! THERE IS NO "BEST" in MUSIC !! ITs not a sport !!! Yes, Steve Morse is'outa-this-world' awesome , but that doesnt mean that Angus Young isnt just as awesome at what Angus does. The same goes for someone not as popular, like Pete Anderson (Dwight Yoakam's guitarist)-who is an incredible guitarists.Sure some guitarists have more 'technical prowess' than others, but its the "soul" of the piece(song) and how its being presented that matters !!

  • who is the best? who do you like? there in, lies the answer. however, only my opinion counts, steve morse is the master. what? slash? eddy van halen? grow up.

  • Morse is an amazing guitar player! I love "User frendly" Intro! It's an amazing song \m/

  • morse is one of the best guitarrist of the world ... my Top 5 are

    5:Santana

    4:Jimmy Page

    3:Steve Morse

    2:Jimmy Hendrix

    1:Eric Clapton / Richie Blackmoore

  • you´ve forgotten mark knopfler.

  • That would be 6...

What about Al di Meola, Leo Kotke, Dave Gilmour, Tommy Emmanuel, Joe Stariani, Steve Vai, Eric Johnson, Yngwie Malmstein, Steve Hackett, Robert Fripp, Belew, Knoppfler, Petrucci, Jeff Beck, Frank Zappa... the list goes on. Why limit yourself to only 5? Why try to quantify "best" at all? Just enjoy the music, man.

  • yeah that sounds about right to me :D

  • This show sounded tight as hell.

  • THE BEST!!!!!!!!
