Before I had my pit and educated my self I was also ignorant and pointed my finger and accused them just like many some relatives currently own a Boston terrier chihuahuas also owned before a collie and a cute mutt but there is no comparison.
In my opinion a pitbull owner needs to be smart constant have patience and show lots and lots of love. The ones who do are greatly rewarded by their pet companion we experience a relationship filled with love trust and loyalty like no other breed can offer!

Roxy is such a sweet pit bull. She loves everyone in the family & protects us. She reads people. She has never once bit a person! She loves to lick. If she ever gets your hand in her mouth, she spits it back out and licks your hand as if she's saying "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to." Pits are loving and loyal pets. Owners are vicious, hateful, awful people. Judge them... NOT THE DOG

They were bred to help hold down large game (not kill) and to be part of the family, then dicks saw how loyal, trusting, and their willingness for their masters and turned that to their advantage. Pits are my life, and my man wouldn't hurt a fly.
@KMunk7 No, Bully breeds (like Pit breeds) were bred to hold down large game, work on farms, and to be family dogs. Not every single Pit Bulls blood line go back to fighting dogs. There are also many other dogs who are used to fight, but no one likes to talk about them. :/
And there are past fighting dogs that now live in loving homes with children and pets, like most of the Vick dogs. Vick's prized fighter turned out to be the most dog social and is now a therapy dog. Dogs are individuals.

@TheFara1979 OMG! HAHA! A Tough guy breed then? I'm 5'2, 114 Lbs, 20, and work with shelter dogs. I own a Pit Bull and some day a Pit bull rescue, do I really sound like a "tough guy?". I'm into the whole Pit Bull rescue thing, and REAL RESPONSIBLE owners wouldn't treat their dog like that, and I probably know more people who love their dogs then you know of shit owners. They are the most abused/abandoned dog, but that's because asses take them in and there are so many cause of over breeding.
@TheFara1979 Ps: those are probably poorly bred AmStaffs, Staffies, or ABPT's (or not any of those breeds, making them not pits) because Pittie breeds were not bred to be dangerous to humans and if they are it is probably from embedding or a bitch human who should be locked away for life like Vick (and look at his dogs; out of 52 pits only 2 were put to sleep, and one was for internal injuries from over breeding). I work with abused pits never had an issue. Been bitten by other breeds though.
@RoscoTheRat any medium to large sized dog pose a threat to humans. My uncle had a german shepherd that was the sweetest dog ever. They were a lovvng family and he showed no signs of aggression. Until 1 day, for no apparent reason, he almost tore a neighbors face off.Golden Retreivers, are an overrated breed to . I had 1 that was mean. My girfriends parents had 2 that you couldn't even be around.the best breeds are 1.Bassett hounds 2.german shorthair pointers3.boxers
@TheFara1979 That's funny, because one of the dogs on my list that have bitten me happened to be a Basset Hound, and they are actually quit common to bite too. I work closely with past fighting dogs, bait dogs and pits that were abused, still haven't been bitten by one yet. ANY dog, no matter size or breed, can be dangerous or sweet. Poms are small dogs, remember I told you about one that killed? I have also met more dog reactive GSD then pits, and btw Boxers are Bully Breed's.

@TheFara1979 As you say this, my pits playing with my cat... Anyways, you are wrong it is not in their DNA. In fact human aggression was purposely bred out of the dogs, even fighting dogs. The reason for that sis because humans enter a fighting ring with a pit, and if the dog so much looks at them the wrong way they end their breeding line completely. How many Goldens, small dogs and yes, small dogs CAN kill people), and any other breed have killed? Many more labs have been known to attack.

No dog just snaps, there is either signs or a reason behind a dog attack and sometimes the owners don't know exactly what it was, but many experts can easily tell you. Also, many dogs are WRONGLY identified as pits (which isn't a breed of dog), when they aren't even Bully breeds!
@RoscoTheRat where are these stories? I know of 2 instances where a Golden killed someone. And remember, Goldens are in the top 5 as far as dogs being owned. So , they have a much larger sample size than Pitts and yet they still have a much smaller report (it's not even close) of fatal attacks. The fatal attacks i am talking about are dogs that killed someone and then euthenized themselves. Thus, they were identified as being pit bulls ,or having pit bull DNA.

Pit Bull's term changed a lot over the past years, not mutts and dogs with short snouts, muscler bodies, stocky, or short are now "Pit Bulls". I went to an animal shelter with my friend and a third of the dogs there were Pits. Why? i don't like Golden retrievers. They are very popular dogs and have been in bread to meet the demand. I have been around several Pits and most of them the owners had to lock them up when company was around. Including my old roomate and the guy downstairs
@TheFara1979 There are so many pits for a simple reason, they ARE over bred. So many end up in shelters, and I work with abused shelter pits and never once was threatened by one, but I have been bitten by other types of dogs (Basset Hounds being one). Dobermans, Rotties, German shepherds, and Hound dogs all at one point been feared by the public. What you said contradicted yourself too, yeah you hear mostly about pits because that's what sells stories. My man is SUPER people/animal friendly

Many of the Vick dogs ended up in loving families, with dogs. Even his prized fighter Hector, was the most dog social. It is not the breed, never the breed. @TheFara1979 Many dogs have stronger jaws then pits, and have been known to kill or hurt people. The news likes to leave them out though. Like the story of the female pit who was attacked in her own yard by two Huskeys, then the pit needed 72 stitches. The News actually said because the pit didn't attack, there wasn't a story. Small breeds have killed people too (like a pom recently killed a baby). I have been bitten by a Bassett Hound, still haven't by a pit. -c-
@TheFara1979 -c- Bernards aren't bred to do anything ivovling animals, their mountain dogs/farm dogs. Pits were actually bred for farm work, family life, and holding (not killing) large game for slaughter that's where Bully breeds come from). Then they have a tendency for being one of the most devoted dog types, which PEOPLE took advantage of. Many other breeds (rotties being 1) are used as fighting dogs, but no 1 talks about the other breeds. I said, what qualifies u to say these dogs are mean?
@RoscoTheRat I have been around dogs my whole life.I always had at least1 dog. Everyone in my family has at least 1 dog,as do all my friends,girls I have dated, room mates etc.I have been around 100's of dogs and dozens of Pits.Almost every pit I have been around has shown some signs of aggression.Some more extreme than others.I lived with 3 for a year and you couldn't turn your back on them.Couple that with what I have read and people I know expieriences is why I have my opinion
@TheFara1979 Honestly, I doubt that very much you have met only aggressive pits. Most people who have an opinion like yours have only met one dog (or one that looks like a pit) that wasn't friendly, and that dog was poorly taken care of. Unlike you I ACTUALLY work with Pit Bulls, and like I said I never had an issue. Unless you surround yourself around dog abusing assholes, I doubt you have met so many "dangerous" Pit Bulls. They weren't ever bred for human aggression, even fighting dogs.
@TheFara1979 Ps: Many people wrongly identify Pits, it is extremely common. I saw a news story about two pits attacking a women. One dog was a Boxer and the other was a mastiff. Neither dog is a Pit Bull. Many mutts are identified as pits too, just because they look similar (musclur, big jaw, stocky). Pretty much any dog that is what I described is titled a"Pit Bull" even if i's not a Bully Breed at all.

Actually in fact, most of her stories are made up, she sources herself, or she lies about parts in them. If you actually want to learn a thing or two, look up Animal Farm Foundation's site, or Bad Rap. Not a crazed loon who is biased. I worked years with these types of dog. I think I know more about them then you and that crack.
i wouldn't have a dog in the house I didn't trust, but would always supervise the interaction between a child & dog.A dog would not look up to & follow the commands of a young child [unless an adult was there so it was clear it would be enforced] & a child may not be able to read & react to the dog's body language/vocal communication.Contrary to popular opinion dog bite incidents never happen out of the blue. It is always a human at fault for failing to step in at the first sign of a problem!!
I am so happy to see videos like these posted. My husband and I have a pit bull--no children yet, but I wouldn't choose another dog but the one we have. He's the smartest, kindness, and gentlest dog we have ever owned. Don't judge a book by its cover--don't judge a dog by its breed! THANKS AGAIN for the video! :)

I am a licensed veterinary technician and spend about 45 hours a week with dogs at their best and worst, I have only ONCE had to muzzle/call in extra restraint for a pit bull and he was owned by a piece of trash kid who was proud he was mean. Every other of the hundred or so pit bull patients I have encountered have been nothing but pleasant. Wish I could say the same for the numerous other breeds we have had to muzzle or sedate just to touch. But what do I know

Any dog can do harm. I've seen where a chiahuhua nibbled the fingers off of a baby. I've seen an adults face whose family Labrador caused major disfiguration. It comes back to the owners responsibility and treatment.

i have a pit bull and a mini dashund the pit has never ever came close to biting people or dogs but my dashund has bitten lots of people and she cant even go tho the dog park cause whens aggressive toward other dogs! so just because shes small dosnt mean shes not aggressive! people dont mind being bitten by small dogs! My service dog is a pit mix who was a rescue. She was abused for the first year and a half of her life and would have every right to hate people, but she doesn't. She happily interacts with people of all walks of life and in all situations, from relaxed to stressful and has never once in the 3 years that she has been with me ever disappointed me in her behaviour. There are good people and bad, dogs and pits are no different.

This video is adorable and is so true of the breed. I personally have three pit bulls one of which is an inside dog. My dogs have been well trained and are in no way aggressive. This breed of dog is large and powerful so they should be supervised around small children, as any large dog should be. This breed is given a bad name due to the way they are represented in the media, any large dog with a round head is called a pit bull. Most of these animals are actually mixed breed dogs.
Its not what they do, its what they are capable of doing that scares people. They are powerful dogs that need to be well trained. And i do own a APBT.
I find it funny how some of you give percentages of how many PITBULL attacks have been reported by the media... The media loves to portray them as bad guys. Go to any vet and ask them how many times they have been bitten by a pit and by other dogs. My vet (been a vet for 14 years) has never been bitten or attacked by a pit but has been bitten by pomeranians, chihuahuas, shih tzu, etc. so many times she lost count. Pits are amazing dogs. The media doesn't give people the chance to get to know.

It's unfortunate that often the exact type of person who should not own a pit bull or a rotweiler is the very type of who gravitate towards owning those breeds. They want those breeds because they believe that they protray a certain "macho" image but they are too immature and inexperienced to know how to property train and socialize them.

What is put in the media is decided by humans. There was a deaf pit that, along with a great dane, met a burglar at the window. The great dane pulled back, but the pitbull was deaf so did not come back when called and chased the criminal away and went missing. Trying to find their dog, the people tried to get on the news but they would not run the story, but within the week it took to find the dog ran a pitbull biting incident (where the dog was instigated).

When a pitbull attacks the injury may be catastrophic..Through selective breeding pitbulls have aquired enormous jawbone strenth, and high tolerence to pain..The question shouldn't be, should you have one, but who do you love more..the dog, or your child?There are no take backs, once a attack occurs...are you willing to risk a childs life?

I have a pitbull and he is well trained and well behaved, and I trust him on things like going to the bathroom in the middle of the night without supervision or playing with children while supervised, but... I hate how people use the 'WELL THAT ONE CAN MAIM/KILL" as an excuse not to properly train their little/medium/whatever dog. All dogs should be trained and all owners should fight against aggression in all breeds, no matter the size.
I was bit in the face by a doberman when I was five. I almost lost a cheek, my mother held it on with a towel. I had over a hundred stitches in my face. Today I own a pitbull. The dog that bit me was a new dog to us. He had been abused and mistreated. My family has never been without a dog. A dog is what the owner makes it. You have to do your homework and be willing to invest a lot of time to have a good dog. Any dog breed is safe or deadly. It all depends on the owner.

In the end it all comes down to putting in the work it takes to train an animal like this. I have a 120lb. American Bulldog that is the sweetest dog in the world and Canine Good Citizen certified because of all the hard work we put into training him. What they should do rather than ban the breed is require CGC certification to ensure responsible ownership. There are no bad pit bulls, only bad pit bull owners!

@KMunk7 No, Bully breeds (like Pit breeds) were bred to hold down large game, work on farms, and to be family dogs. Not every single Pit Bulls blood line go back to fighting dogs. There are also many other dogs who are used to fight, but no one likes to talk about them. :/
And there are past fighting dogs that now live in loving homes with children and pets, like most of the Vick dogs. Vick's prized fighter turned out to be the most dog social and is now a therapy dog. Dogs are individuals.

Out numbers the kills by a pit (which is three, and most of the time they wrongly identify a dog). Do you work with Pit Bulls? I doubt you even met one before. @TheFara1979 Ps: those are probably poorly bred AmStaffs, Staffies, or ABPT's (or not any of those breeds, making them not pits) because Pittie breeds were not bred to be dangerous to humans and if they are it is probably from embedding or a bitch human who should be locked away for life like Vick (and look at his dogs; out of 52 pits only 2 were put to sleep, and one was for internal injuries from over breeding). I work closely with past fighting dogs, bait dogs and pits that were abused, still haven't been bitten by one yet. ANY dog, no matter size or breed, can be dangerous or sweet. So , they have a much larger sample size than Pitts and yet they still have a much smaller report (it's not even close) of fatal attacks. The fatal attacks i am talking about are dogs that killed someone and then euthenized themselves. Thus, they were identified as being pit bulls ,or having pit bull DNA.

So many end up in shelters, and I work with abused shelter pits and never once was threatened by one, but I have been bitten by other types of dogs (Basset Hounds being one). Pits were actually bred for farm work, family life, and holding (not killing) large game for slaughter that's where Bully breeds come from). Everyone in my family has at least 1 dog,as do all my friends,girls I have dated, room mates etc.I have been around 100's of dogs and dozens of Pits.Almost every pit I have been around has shown some signs of aggression.Some more extreme than others.I lived with 3 for a year and you couldn't turn your back on them.Couple that with what I have read and people I know expieriences is why I have my opinion

Most people who have an opinion like yours have only met one dog (or one that looks like a pit) that wasn't friendly, and that dog was poorly taken care of. i wouldn't have a dog in the house I didn't trust, but would always supervise the interaction between a child & dog.A dog would not look up to & follow the commands of a young child [unless an adult was there so it was clear it would be enforced] & a child may not be able to read & react to the dog's body language/vocal communication.Contrary to popular opinion dog bite incidents never happen out of the blue. It is always a human at fault for failing to step in at the first sign of a problem!!

I am a licensed veterinary technician and spend about 45 hours a week with dogs at their best and worst, I have only ONCE had to muzzle/call in extra restraint for a pit bull and he was owned by a piece of trash kid who was proud he was mean. Every other of the hundred or so pit bull patients I have encountered have been nothing but pleasant. Wish I could say the same for the numerous other breeds we have had to muzzle or sedate just to touch. But what do I know

Any dog can do harm. I've seen where a chiahuhua nibbled the fingers off of a baby. I've seen an adults face whose family Labrador caused major disfiguration. It comes back to the owners responsibility and treatment.

My service dog is a pit mix who was a rescue. She was abused for the first year and a half of her life and would have every right to hate people, but she doesn't. She happily interacts with people of all walks of life and in all situations, from relaxed to stressful and has never once in the 3 years that she has been with me ever disappointed me in her behaviour. There are good people and bad, dogs and pits are no different.

This video is adorable and is so true of the breed. I personally have three pit bulls one of which is an inside dog. My dogs have been well trained and are in no way aggressive. This breed of dog is large and powerful so they should be supervised around small children, as any large dog should be. This breed is given a bad name due to the way they are represented in the media, any large dog with a round head is called a pit bull. Most of these animals are actually mixed breed dogs.

I find it funny how some of you give percentages of how many PITBULL attacks have been reported by the media... The media loves to portray them as bad guys. Go to any vet and ask them how many times they have been bitten by a pit and by other dogs. My vet (been a vet for 14 years) has never been bitten or attacked by a pit but has been bitten by pomeranians, chihuahuas, shih tzu, etc. so many times she lost count. Pits are amazing dogs. The media doesn't give people the chance to get to know.

It's unfortunate that often the exact type of person who should not own a pit bull or a rotweiler is the very type of who gravitate towards owning those breeds. They want those breeds because they believe that they protray a certain "macho" image but they are too immature and inexperienced to know how to property train and socialize them.

What is put in the media is decided by humans. There was a deaf pit that, along with a great dane, met a burglar at the window. The great dane pulled back, but the pitbull was deaf so did not come back when called and chased the criminal away and went missing. Trying to find their dog, the people tried to get on the news but they would not run the story, but within the week it took to find the dog ran a pitbull biting incident (where the dog was instigated).

@wiredtvcraze Perhaps so. But only a very few breeds of dog (Pitbulls, Rottweilers) leave people permanently maimed and crippled when they innocently spaz out. A naughty terrier leaves a faded memory of scar. A naughty pitbull on the other hand often leaves people bereaved and grieving.

It very irresponsible to allow them to run free outside or be aware whenever you're opening the door to your house, that they just don't run out. There should be a law that has hefty financial penalties for irresponsible owners and or professional training required for certain breeds for both dog and owner. Owners, please keep them chained when outside, even in your backyard since they're good diggers

I have a pitbull and he is well trained and well behaved, and I trust him on things like going to the bathroom in the middle of the night without supervision or playing with children while supervised, but... I hate how people use the 'WELL THAT ONE CAN MAIM/KILL" as an excuse not to properly train their little/medium/whatever dog. All dogs should be trained and all owners should fight against aggression in all breeds, no matter the size.

I was bit in the face by a doberman when I was five. I almost lost a cheek, my mother held it on with a towel. I had over a hundred stitches in my face. Today I own a pitbull. The dog that bit me was a new dog to us. He had been abused and mistreated. My family has never been without a dog. A dog is what the owner makes it. You have to do your homework and be willing to invest a lot of time to have a good dog. Any dog breed is safe or deadly. It all depends on the owner.

In the end it all comes down to putting in the work it takes to train an animal like this. I have a 120lb. American Bulldog that is the sweetest dog in the world and Canine Good Citizen certified because of all the hard work we put into training him. What they should do rather than ban the breed is require CGC certification to ensure responsible ownership. There are no bad pit bulls, only bad pit bull owners!
