  • 2:10 - Epic..

  • My old goalie pads were like this song...EPIC!!!

  • best song by dream theater

  • I love the lyrics and the drums. They sound wicked but still excellent played.

  • so epic. i wont be surprised if this will be used for the soundtrack of an upcomingend-of-the-worldish/battle for mankind type video game, i woud use it as a soundtrack

  • i love this song.

  • Shut yo mouth, boy.

    Let Petrucci do his thang.

  • i smell a fan boy in the room.

  • Ugh! Not fanboys! I hate them! If I had my way everyone in the world would sit in a darkened room, not enjoying ANYTHING!

Keep throwing them utterly pretentious phrases around. It gets me rate hot, daddy.

    P.S.

    I smell a faggot.

  • Oooo, sounds like someone's mind is a little too simple to keep up with the complexities going on here, eh? It's ok if you don't get it, buddy. Lots of people have IQ's in the single digits...

Try typing in "Russell Crowe's band" or "Milli Vanilli". That's probably a little more your speed.

  • Its good to see Dream Theater fans continue to maintain their reputation as complete douches.

  • Not all of them do, but yes, a lot of them are.

And yes, I'm a Dream Theater fan myself.

  • same here breadmold. Hate ignorant fans-.-

  • Definetely.

  • great!

  • I like this song but the lyrics are a little odd...Not DT's best but its still pretty good

  • Holy shit the tempo is fucked up. It's awesome.

  • I know, huh!! It's pretty great!

  • I love that synth at 0:30!

  • My brother can play that :D its awesome :D

  • I love dt seen them at least 5 times!!! DT and YES best tour ever!!!

  • well 8:11 to 8:35 lol

  • i don't know how the hell petrucci and rudess play that solo in perfect unison from 8:11 to the end

  • I know its so brutal!!

  • I like th whole album. The songs are all good in their own way, I think only pussies who only like metal would say something like that!

  • WTF? The only song that sound like Metallica is Constant Motion, the worst of the album. Forsaken is gay, and Prophets of War... gay too. But ITPOE, TMOLS, The dark eternal night, and Repentance are kick ass. Sorry for my english

  • prophets of war isn't gay, and forsaken...well the start definetly isn't gay.

  • Dude,u wanna hear mettalica ,search metallica, don't listen to Dream theater and say they don't sound like Mettalica ,that's just fuckin dumb lmao!

ya ever notice these guys can do Iron Maiden,Mettalica,Pantera,Pink Floyd covers but i haven't seen any1 do covers for DT,just can't find the keyboard talent i think

  • 8:18 8:45

  • I love 4:20 to 4:51 :D

  • constant motion dude

  • where was metallica mentioned? and i like constaant motion most off the album, maybe its coz i play guitar and its a shred fest? but i think saying systematic chaos is a pile of shites a bit harsh

  • Obvious troll is fucking obvious. Anyway, have you heard any Metallica song? The verse riffs are the same that are used on most of Metallica's songs. If you don't hear it you probably haven't listened to any album by Metallica

  • i agree. i actually loved most of the songs on systematic chaos and i have heard all the best stuff as i have everysingle DT album. ITPOE IS probablly the best song on the album but there are other good songs aswell ie forsaken which is amazing and repentence is good also. i do however think constant motion riffs and vocals sound kinda metallica-ish. but i play shred guitar also and the petruccis harmonic solo is fuckin amazing and the speed of his sweeps are crazy. pastabase your a fool.

  • i still dont get how you can compare metallica to dt they have pedal note in their verse riff but most metal songs do i mean wtf!

the only person who would think kirk was better than petrucci is his girlfreind

  • i never said kirk is better than petrucci

  • i know, i was just saying petrucci kicks his ass - were all thinkin it

  • hell yeah. jp ftw

  • or his mum

  • lyrics kinda killed it for me.

  • THis song part 1 & 2 blows me away!

WHat is his message? The lyrics are a little wierd. and cool. someone tell me. thanks.

  • Damn, this intro is the shit...

    Petrucci/Portnoy for prez 2012!!!!!

  • HAHhahahaha I agree!

  • Yes! they would bring the METAL to politics

and would destroy America's enemies with pure awesome!!

  • If Petrucci were president, then he could time warp us out of Iraq. I'd like to see someone come up with a better policy than that!

  • YES!!!

  • I have to admit that I don't like the previous albums of DT, I just like some songs. But this album (and specially this song) made clear to me that they are amazing progressive songwriters. It's the first DT record that I like as a whole. I really hope that next albums are as great as this.

I love epics, and "In the Presence of Enemies" is one of the most exhilarating epics I've ever heard.

  • Can somone tell me what beat this song goes in?

  • I think it's in 7/8 except for the slow part which is in 4/4

  • I think it goes in basicly everything :P, the intro/vers riff is 6/4 and 7/4 I think, the very first intro-thingie is 5/8 and 7/8. 9/8 10/8 11/8 12/8... Yeah, basicly everything :P

  • The song is actually in 5/8.

  • thats one of about 20 time sigs in it

  • actually its in about 20 difforent timings witch are too complex for youtubes main computer to handle

  • amen to that

  • Wonderful Wonderful Wonderful song by a wonderful band!!!!

  • That comment was to socreisfunny btw.. Damn youtubereplyfail!

  • 3:37-4:07 is the best part

  • This song is so beatiful. Dream Theater is amazing. I just recently got into them(maybe a week ago or less).I picked up all there albums. I love them ALL. They are not only masters at the instruments they play, but have mastered the art of composing there own brilliant progressive music. This is the most consistent band I've ever seen also. With songs in each album that just blow my mind :) Can't wait for there 2009 album!!!

  • i wonder why did not promote this song, i mean, listen to the new album of metallica, the day that never comes is 8 minutes long and yet they have a video for it, why can't they promote this song?

  • I love this song! I just recently started really getting into this band's music and it's amazing. As a drummer myself I find myself more than humbled by Mike Portnoy's work.

Btw, this band does a great cover of Iron Maiden's "To Tame a Land". Great job. Not many can pull of the task of covering Maiden successfuly.

  • "dream theater = sucks ass"

    you = fuck shit

  • A-hole

  • I really really hope that was a joke! Why the hell do you even bother watching the video if you are just gonna bitch on comments anyway?

  • I believe the word 'sucks' should be changed for 'kicks'

  • i dont think any bands as talented as dream theater when is comes to song writing and timeing :):)

  • yeah

    I love this new album

I'm learning this song on guitare , too

and I really loved it !

  • yeah

I love this new album ...

I'm learning this song on guitare, too

and I really loved it !!

  • Metaca arnt as talented as dream thetaer

  • I agree. "Metaca" and "Dream Thetaer" sound both like awful groups.

  • HOW DARE YOU!

  • I think petrucci's solo at 2:10 just gave me an orgasm

  • its not a solo its a rift

  • fuck metallica.. this video is dream theater, wanna talk about metallica, go to any metallica videos.. -.-

  • 4:25= best breakdown ever

  • yeah ive debated this cavallino before. hes a stuck up prat who knows nothing about guitar. Petrucci anything but amazing? that idiot is pretty stupid

  • i logged in to my other account sorry

  • This is my favourite song from Systematic Chaos and watching them perform it live was such a awesome experience!! But, barring Constant Motion, I didn't like the rest of the album that much.

  • id say what u said pretty much in the reverse

  • sorry, i logged ino my other account

  • awesome!!

  • And this song or at least the first half is good enough to make the album worth buying. But only a person who is just a die hard DT fanatic (instead of just a good prog metal fan) can like a song like Constant Motion.

  • this is such a great song on such an amazing album

  • This is gonna be my theam song now! I got no Idea wha tthat means, but this song kicks ass. The ending solo was amazing. Best solo I ve heard from any band in a long time

  • I get the chills everytime by the ending solo!:P

    Long live DT

  • love this song

  • I closed my eyes and imagined it was a LTE song and then Labrie entered and ruined it for me...

  • sahsahsshuahsuahusa

    i'll look for it

and this koment is funny, hsauhsuahsuahusha

and, did i spell every word right...

  • i know what you mean dude

hsuahsuaus, this is much better than the songs of this album

though i like Repentance and Dark Eternal Night...

    but this one is great

  • This one is like they got posessed by the spirit Liquid Tension for a couple of minutes.

  • uou, a problem

i've never listen the Liquid T.

where i can download this very fast

a lot of my friends from Brazil say

that this album is their very best!

  • Go to your local music store, a lot of metal bands are distributed by brazilian companies in latin america like Hellion. But anyway, other than that you could look for it on youtube, look for "acid rain".

  • MAN! That ending solo of Rudess and Petrucci is awesome:P

  • Favourite DT song

  • Why couldn't they market this song instead of that gay constant motion video?

  • I guess it's a matter of the label having the balls to do it. If the label doesn't have enough balls, they market gay songs instead of macho songs.

  • The reason they didn't market this was because it is too long of a song. Did you know that they only allow songs that clock in at least 3 1/2 minutes? If it doesn't, and they still have the desire to market it, they just cut it. But, being that this song is exactly 9 minutes, it doesn't seem possible to condense it. What with all the intricate note changes you'll find. Good stuff, and Constant Motion is a good song, by the way. ;)

  • Well, it is still Dream Theater, after all. So, for me, it is impossible not to dislike.

  • dude constant motion is awesome why do you have to be such a douche all the time? on that far beyond the sun video you said petrucci is pathetic live and now youre putting down a song like constand motion which im sure you cant even PLAY let alone write something anywhere near it. grow the fuck up

  • I can play it. And I did exagerate when I said he's pathetic so I apologize for that one, but it does bug me that Petrucci can't play his own material live.

Anyway, I'm working on a nice cover of overture 1928 and I'll add a few things of my own, Ill post the video in a few weeks when Im finished. If you can play my version then you can call me names, otherwise you're the douche.

  • petrucci is one of the most accomplished and respected musicians in the world i don't think he'd be on the top 10 shredders of all time list if he can't play his own material as you say

  • no i dont think you can. the fact that your not smart enough to recognize a good guitarist, it shows that you cant be smart enough to play a good song.

  • sorry, i logged into my other account

  • can't play his own material?

look at dragon force for that one but petrucci can play

maybe you heard 1 or 2 mistakes in an X place and you use that for all of their songs

thats pretty damn stupid if you ask me

  • YES thats what i say people are fuckin ignorant

  • yea but there's a problem, it's agreed universally that metallica is complete trash and not in the good sense. Metallica isn't even progressive. Dream Theater still has a solid fan base from their early beginnings while metallica's fanbase has dwindled since they are no good anymore and just a bunch of sellouts and mediocre musicians.

  • Excuse me, but I think you missed a minor detail in your use of the word "Universally"

    Webster's Unabridged Dictionary

    Universal

Of or pertaining to the universe; extending to, including, or affecting, the whole number, quantity, or space

Excuse me, but I'm part of the whole number and I don't think that Metallica is trash, so you just lied.

Why the hell can't everyone just be tolerant of other people's taste in music?

FFS, I think both bands are awesome, so why do you people have to trash?

  • sorry if I offended you dude. I really just don't like them except for very early albums.

  • that was extremely narrow minded on your part.

  • Oh no, I've been insulted by a random person on Youtube, a person who I've never met, never will meet, and don't give a shit about. Thanks for sharing your totally non-relevant opinion.

  • That comment better have come out before Death Magnetic did (To Burdockman).

  • Are you trying to say that Death Magnetic was actually good? Are you serious?

  • Tell me what's bad about Death Magnetic. Besides, you know: the awesome vocals, crazy solos, fast riffs, better drums, crazy bass, creative songs, good riffs, and cool lyrics. Oh and The Black Album sucked-1 million dollar budget=trash.
  • Maybe it's because it was forced, and contrived, and pretty much the same shit Metallica has been pumping out for decades?

  • Yea, it does sound like all the other albums...

Oh except Kill 'Em All because it's too raw.

Oh and Ride the Lightning for the same reason.

It is similar to MoP, and exactly like the rest after that.

Oh except The Black Album because it's too soft.

Oh and not like Load or Reload because those were hard rock albums.

Oh and not like St. Anger because of the vocals, drums, guitar, and bass.

Oh and not like Garage Inc. because those were redneck songs.

But yea other then that, it's exactly...wait...

  • "Metallica isn't even progressive"

Maybe not in the same way that Dream Theateris progressive with just about every song clocking in at around 10 minutes but Metallica has released some songs which I would call progresive(...And Justice For All, Call of Ktulu)

Also as for saying Metallica is agreed to be trash, that may be true about post-Black Album (Death Magnetic is debateable) Metallica but Metallia's first four albums are agreed to be amazing metal albums.

  • "Also as for saying Metallica is agreed to be trash, that may be true about post-Black Album (Death Magnetic is debateable)"

-No, Death Magnetic is not debatable. Its actually horrible.

  • ? CM was really good for Labrie

  • an ORGASMIC piece by dream theater!!

... now to clean my mess up.

  • First DT-song i've heard and what a awesome one _0_

  • the devil's voice!

    I love this cd man!

    one of the bests

my weed never been so awesome to smoke

  • Do you still wait for something better than this?

  • This is the symbol of my faith.

  • y no words?

  • Music speaks volumes to millions, words speak to those only who understand them...

  • no circus maximus, no pagan's mind... DT can't be beated! will still be the developers of progressive metal!

  • you should compare thissong to Swim by In Flames

sounds pretty similiar in the beginning

  • it really does...it was the first thing I thought, but I like DT more ofc :)

  • swin has little in common with this, as In Flames has little in common with DT. both bands are uber great, but DT's still no 1

  • i love 1:27

  • best song off that album..

  • I like the Slow part after the REALLY FAST solo!!!!

  • 0:30 onwards for me

  • 2:59 = eargasm :P rly great song, though I like part 2 even more :) heavy stuff, rly makes me feel agony and hatred inside...

  • Oh shit! Rush just went metal! :o

  • agree

  • mmhmm, awesome band.

  • 4:45 <3

  • About half a year ago I stopped listening to Dream Theater. Hearing this I think I better get back to them! This is freaking awsome.

  • why did you stop? dream theater own!!!

  • i saw them last 05th October, and i say , it's not enough to see dream theater one time, if u see them once ,u want to see the more and more , amazing new Album

  • Great song, one of my favorites. Mad props for the good sound quality.

  • damn petrucci

you rock this song is unbelievable

    especially the guitar and drums

  • However, when it is not approved items such as this song, then we have a dilemma. Mike Portnoy okays bootlegging for the concerts, because he would like to be able to recall those nights and make profit, however bootlegging has it's faux pau being that if you get caught, you will get raped. Jordan Rudess didn't have the full song of Tarkus on the internet, but someone pre-ordered it, and added it on youtube. This is misuse of CD's and violates Copyright.

  • haha, bands only really get money from tours and gigs anyway, so your argument is full of fail.

  • that riff at 00:46 is pure sex

  • rideon

  • I knew the song to read Young Guitar.

Young Guitar is sold in Japan.

    By the way ,,,,

    How GOOD!!!

  • Dream Theater is aware that they are basicaly the most 'boot legged' band ever. And don't care that much. They are not the kind of band that is in it jsut for the money. They are Gods and they know it. The love to play and make money as a very attractive bonus. They give us music to enjoy, and we repay them buy buying their albums and others products. Youtube is not an alterative to having CD quality and proof of ownership. Youtube is essentially an advertisment device. GG noob :P

  • Do you really want Dream Theater to be be cheated out of millions of dollars for illegal downloads, and unauthorized YouTube postings? I Personally love this song, its difficult to play, it theoretically makes sense as any song should, and a lot of emotion went into this song. Don't let it all go to waste.

  • Have you ever heard anything said by anyone in Dream Theater ever? Portnoy himself loves bootlegs, and collects any DT boot leg he can get his hands on. DT is not a pop band, they need fans more than mass record sales. Pleanty of people listen to bands like DT illegally, become fans. I myself got the first 7 DT albums from a friend, and now the band has definatly made money one me, concerts, albums.

  • That is how mass communication works. DT doesn't get MTV they get youtube, and it does the same thing. Now kindly find an issue in the world worth worrying about, like global warming or mass starvation...

  • I have, but you haven't seen the Jordan Rudess interview... He Hated seeing Tarkus on here. That's from his new album, and there were previews on his site.

  • petrucci is god

  • browns, kiss all of us musicians asses. you cant do a damn thing about it, so just keep out of it. anyway, awesome song. i own the cd, yet listen to it on here when i want privacy. thats what this is for. say your folks dont want to hear the music but you do. you plug in some phones and listen to it. browns, thats what this is for you fool. get used to it.

  • SHUT UP douches. God its why people get arrested evryday for copyright infringement, being sued millions of dollars. It makes me question mankinds ability to judge their presence to laws, and to abide by them. It angers me so much to see the arrogance in todays society. So just stop, you guys cheat those whose sweat, tears and blood goes into this type of work. Not doing so is like committing murder.

  • Kids just listen to the music.

  • brown get a life and instead of argueing about something out of your hands just watch the video and enjoy like ur supposed to not just go on videos to tell people its against the law if ur so against it why u watching it?

  • The reason I'm even taking a fucking glimpse at this to wonder whose goddamn idea was this!

  • your an idiot and know little, to nothing about DT.

  • They are a New York based Prog rock/metal band. they've been playing for almost 23 years now, they've had 3 changes of Keyboard players. Kevin Moore quit because of the the style differences (he was into techno, which explained why his last song was indeed techno),then Derek Sherinian took over for the Awake tour. He stuck around for Falling into Infinity and did that tour too.

  • At that time John Petrucci, Mike Portnoy, asked Jordan Rudess to be the keyboard player, but he felt he wasn't ready at the time. So Mike said that they should try something first, and Jordan agree. Thus Liquid Tension Experiment was established. They did 2 albums and Jordan said that himself, John, and Mike had great chemistry, so he then joined Dream Theater as the permanent keyboard player. He made his DT debut with Metropolis Pt.2 which gave the band a boost of energy.

  • Their next album was Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence. It is a Double Album, which had 5 songs on 1 CD and an entire song on the 2nd. This CD divided the fans saying that "Hey I think the 1st CD is better","No the 2nd is better hands down!" But it didn't matter because they enjoyed Dream Theater's music no matter what. Train of Thought was the album that was very dark and heavy. They made their mark by playing at Budokan.

  • Octavarium was their next song, which the album itself supported the number 8. 8 white keys in an octave, the birds and the balls made an octave on the keyboard. The maze had 8 sides, the spider has 8 legs, the 2nd domino has the total of 8 on it, the bottom number of the Time Signature was the 8th note, Otcavrium- implied 8 in its name- its total legth was divisable by 8. It was their 8th album.

  • Gotta love Wikipedia, eh?

  • Most unreliable source on the net, as far as researching goes. I never use material from it or I would get an instant "F". I am an avid fan, I have every studio album except Falling into Infinity.

  • Huh, looked like I misjudged. For a moment I thought you were one of those flamers, and as we all know, flamers often know little of what they are flaming. My mistake.

  • I'm an avid Dream Theater fan, oh, and btw Bootlegs that they prefer are those such as videos. This is not a bootleg, but still a violation of copyright. Jordan Rudess prefers video bootlegs just as much as Mike Portnoy prefers video bootlegging, whereas his song Tarkus was pirated to the public.

  • Octavarium was/is their 10th album.

  • Sorry, 9th album, A Change Of Seasons is the 4th one.

  • To you, A Change of Seasons isn't a complete studio album. It was actually supposed to be released on Images and Words, but it was blocked out by the label, on top of business.

  • honestly i think it turned out alright thatACOS didnt end up on I&W cuz it was different than the final version at that point and by 1995 the new version was much better
