I am in a bad position to try and be vegan. I have been trying my best to eat less meat, but in the midst of trying to find ways to get proper nutrition within my budget; I've resorted back to eating meat. Albeit, less, but I do still eat animal products. This struggle with the fact that recipes I find are more costly than meat is something that spurns my heart. @Tzara86 Hi there. There are lots of recipes on the Internet that use wholegrains, beans, pulses, nuts etc which are cheap and nutritious. Search for Cheap Vegan Recipes or Cheap Vegan Meals and you'll find all sorts. Also there's a book called Eat Vegan on $4 a Day which would probably be helpful. Also, we run a Vegan Pledge through our website where we send you ebooks with lots of info and recipes - it's free to sign up.
@historyfairgirl I hope you realize that the US does equally abuse and torture animals.. Just like any other country. I think you should look at American slaughterhouses, then you will see how awful the animals are treated. The US does not have clean hands.
i don't rlly mind animals being eaten in the u.s., but in china, dogs are slaughtered in a beyond-brutal, inhumane way; dogs are slowly clubbed to death etc.
@historyfairgirl You really need to search YouTube for the video "Meet Your Meat." If one can afford to avoid consuming flesh, it is their moral obligation. Even just eating meat less is a victory, no matter how small. I say that someone who defends their own but attacks another because of the species of animal being harmed is sheer hypocrisy. Believe me that if it was more profitable than cows or chickens, we in the West would be eating dogs and cats, too.
I love the video. I completely support your cause, and I donate regularly to Conservation International. But I have to say that I do disagree with some of these things. For example, the quote about meat eating being murder is completely wrong in my opinion. I eat tons if meat, in fact I even hunt. I live in a wooded region, so I enjoy hunting certain animals. The one thing I would never do is hunt an animal with a certain degree of intelligence or beauty (chimps, wild cats, wild dogs, elephants
