I've always loved this movie, and the above scene (and others that follow where he speaks to God) are one of the reasons why. It never would even cross his mind that he might be talking to himself, his faith is soo strong that he KNOWS he is talking to his friend, God. Who listens intently to his troubles, his joys, his sorrows, even his jokes.
