hi i read that you cant control your other characters like stahn is it true??

@indarkness123 Yeah, you need to use a second controller to control any of the other characters.

This is because you can't change which character is in slot 1.

@aricain You will also need to set Stan to Auto, and the character in slot 2 to semi-auto or manual, otherwise Stan will not be controlled by a CPU, you can do this by pushing select in battle.

You need to equip an item called a channeling to the other character to control them.

You will be using controller 1 to move on the map, and controller 2 for battles.

There is no other way to do it, since Stan is permanently in slot 1 for the entire game.

Equip a Channeling to the character you want to play as, put that character in slot 2, then when you're in battle press select on controller 1 until Stan is set to Auto, the press select on controller 2 and set that character to Semi-Auto/Manual.

With this setup you'll use controller 1 to move on maps and controller 2 for battle, there is no other way to do this.

@benjamillion I suggest you buy the PS2 remake, this one's OK but the random battles come very quickly and the story progress is very tedious since you'll be constantly backtracking from place to place. The original version is one of those games with very fluid animations but *very* slow story. Slow to the point I even didn't bother to take a look at the game's timer.

No, Barbatos is originally from Tales of Destiny 2, he was just a cameo in the PS2 remake of Tales of Destiny.

If you mean the Lion's Side game mode from the PS2 Director's Cut, then no that wasn't in here.

But you can play as him in battle with a second controller.

you could do it in tales of phantasia and I think its the same way in here go to the start menu and where you decide what order your team mates come up on the battle field you move the char you want to be as to spot number 1

1. the blood is only a special effect of rutee's bloody rose skill. no more blood.

2. lilith is an exclusive character in the JP version. it's a glitch that can be reproduced easily, but was fixed in the US version. her status screen shows a dark silhouette with a question mark inside it. if you manage to get high luck ratings, her complete body will be shown while your other characters will show a close-up of each ones face.

btw, i own both retail versions and JP rocks a lot more.

Speaking of differences, maybe you might be able to tell me this : is it just the JP version that has voice acting (i.e. Stahn saying ''Eruption'' after casting the spell, in battle)? I just recently started playing the US version and noticed that spell names aren't ''said'' in battles. Was wondering if it was a glitch in the disc. And yes, I do have the ''Voice'' option enabled in config.

Yeah, you just need to get this item near the beginning of the game, called a Channeling, and equip it to the character you want to play as. (Make sure to put that character in the same slot as the controller you want to use. (i.e. character in slot 2 is controlled by controller 2))

Now just push select on the controller in battle to set the character to semi-auto or manual.

She's Lilith, Stan's sister.

It seems the game designers were going to make her a playable character, but for some reason stopped, and never added in a real way to get her.

In the Japanese version of the game, there is a glitch you can do to get her in the party (see my Lilith Glitch videos).

Unfortunately, they removed that glitch from the English version, so the only way to get her is with a Game Shark code.

Oh and just for the record, Final Fantasy isn't fit to lick the boots of Tales. Call me a rabid fanboy but I just think that even this on the PS1 looks like more fun than any FF.

SeraphimSwordmaster, I agree with you about the music, for each game in the series it's always awesome, Motoi Sakuraba is my favorite composer, I also loved his work in other series like Star Ocean, Golden Sun, etc.

And Tales has always been real good with character devolepment, and the skits also play a big role in letting you get to know the characters, that's one of the reasons I love this series.

Before the nutty purple guy with spikes, there's the "normal guy" battle. It's a two-phase final boss battle in the remake just like in the original.

I had gotten quite a few of them over the course of the game, and never bothered using any, so I just decided to waste all of them on the final boss, just for the fun of it. XD
