If you drop the gloves, you consent to the fight regardless of whether you're a fighter or not. Ovy dropped his gloves both times, he wanted those fights. Stop making Downie out to be the bad guy. Ovy attacked Downie first both times. He knows Downie's a scrapper, he knew what he was getting into. If you don't want to fight, keep on your gloves.

I understand you want to protect your star but when a guy is willing to step up for hanging his knee out you let him, protection should come into play when he is being targeted.

Agreed... Downie would be a hero for luring Ovechkin into that fight. Ovechkin is the friggin league MVP. He doesn't need to prove himself in a fight against Johnny Nobody who gets 7 points and 300 Penalty Minutes a year. Plus it wasn't like he didn't want to fight him.. Bradley just jumped in and stole the show. From where I stand everybody did their job in that whole exchange and we all got to benefit from an interesting show

He most definitely deserves it. He has and will be for a long time in the organisation, he is a great player and from what his teammates have told to the press - he is one hell of a teammate aswell. So in my opinion he was the only real choise for captain after Clark left.
